Report of the Exalted Visit and Holy Journey of the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a to Montreal, Canada - Part 4

Shabbos Nachas HaNeshamos, Parshas Chayei Sarah, "B'tzeil HaKodesh," during the holy journey to Montreal, to strengthen and fortify the members of the Montreal kehilla, and on the occasion of the expansion of the borders of holiness, the inauguration of our great and magnificent beis medrash "Binyan Shmuel Binyomin."

With uplifted spirits, in the holy chambers, with excitement and spiritual elevation, hundreds of members of the Montreal kehilla experienced the historic Shabbos Kodesh in the holy presence of the Rebbe shlit"a in our holy kehilla in Montreal, and warmed themselves in his shining light during the holy tefillos and uplifting tishen.

Throughout Shabbos Kodesh, at the tefillos the great beis medrash, and at the tables in the gigantic tent structure, were filled from end to end, with no room to spare, with hundreds of members of the Montreal kehilla and the hundreds of guests who came to take part in the uplifting Shabbos, to take shelter in the shadow of holiness.

In addition, the Vizhnitz hall right next to the great beis medrash was set up, where the Shabbos Kodesh seudos were arranged for the hundreds of guests.

On Erev Shabbos afternoon the Rebbe shlit"a went to the private mikvah in the home of the distinguished philanthropist R' Raphael Herzog, one of the prominent Belz chassidim, where the Rebbe went to the mikvah during the days of the exalted visit.
The Rebbe shlit"a tasted something there, a pleasant conversation developed, and the Rebbe bestowed from his holy blessings upon R' Raphael and his family.

On Friday night at around 5:00 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the great beis medrash wrapped in his tallis and approached the amud for Mincha. Because of the tremendous crowding in the beis medrash, the women's section was also opened to accommodate the huge crowd as much as possible.

The davening ended at around 6:30. Afterwards the huge crowd passed by to wish a gut Shabbos, together with hundreds more Jews from the city, which went on for a lengthy time, and then the Rebbe shlit"a went back to his lodging.

At around 9:30 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the Friday night tish in the gigantic tent structure, in the presence of thousands of Jews, with all the rabbonim and dayanim of the city of Montreal participating.

The Rebbe shlit"a began in his holy manner with "Shalom Aleichem," with feeling and melody. Eishes Chayil: the Rebbe's grandson Rabbi Meir Eliezer Teitelbaum, son of HaGaon Rabbi Barach Moshe shlit"a, rav of the beis medrash. Raising the cup for Kiddush: HaGaon Rabbi Mendel Wertzberger shlit"a, dayan of our holy kehilla.

During the tish, Shabbos Kodesh niggunim were sung for an extended time with an enthusiasm that carried along the huge crowd.

Before the zemiros the Rebbe shlit"a honored HaGaon Rabbi Asher Greenfeld shlit"a, rav of the Vizhnitz kehilla of Eretz Yisroel in Montreal, to sing "Rachem."
The Rebbe shlit"a honored the following with the zemiros. Kol Mekadesh: HaGaon Rabbi Yonasan Binyomin Weiss shlit"a, Av Beis Din of Montreal. Menucha V'Simcha: the Av Beis Din of Rosh Chochma Montreal shlit"a.

The Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the verse "And Avrohom was old, advanced in days, and Hashem blessed Avrohom with everything (bakol)," and in the words of the Chasam Sofer that "bakol" when spelled out in full has the numerical value of "shofar," and explained in the manner of a derush that "kol" means even a little bit; therefore even if a Jew does just a little teshuva, it is enough.

Stories and anecdotes: This week the Rebbe shlit"a told about the holy R' Hersh of Rimanov zy"a, whose yahrzeit falls on Thursday, 30 Cheshvan.

At the fruits, all the chasanim of Montreal went over to take shirayim. After the fruits, the Shalom Zachor took place for several members of the kehilla.

Az B'Yom HaShvi'i: HaGaon Rabbi Yechezkel Tauber shlit"a, Av Beis Din of Bobov Montreal. It ended at around 12:15.

And on Shabbos Kodesh

On Shabbos Kodesh morning the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash at around 9:20.
Upon arrival the Rebbe shlit"a participated in the Tehillim group of the children of the Talmud Torah in the halls of prayer. The Rebbe recited several chapters along with them, and conveyed brief holy words about the importance of a chapter of Tehillim, especially from children.

The Rebbe shlit"a entered for Shacharis at around 9:30. Pesukei D'Zimra: the HaGaon, dayan of our kehilla shlit"a. The Rebbe shlit"a approached the amud for Shacharis.

Taking out and returning the Torah: HaRav R' Shmuel Dovid Markowitz (Williamsburg). Verses of Shema Yisroel: Rabbi Chaim Eliezer Gross shlit"a. Carrying the Sefer Torah to the bimah: Rabbi Eliezer Weiss (Kiryas Joel). Baal Koreh: HaRav R' Yitzchak Noach Perlmutter.
During the Torah reading, prominent members of the kehilla received aliyos and pledged enormous sums toward the completion of the great beis medrash building, reaching an astronomical sum of over one and a half million dollars.

The Rebbe shlit"a went back to his lodging, at the home of the distinguished philanthropist R' Asher Yeshaya Wertzberger, one of the leaders of our kehilla. At the Shabbos day seudah, prominent members of the kehilla who contributed large sums for our holy kehilla in Montreal joined the meal.

The Rebbe shlit"a made Kiddush as customary, and joyous niggunim were sung on the occasion of the Kiddusha Rabba simcha of the Rebbe's granddaughter, the newborn daughter of Rabbi Menachem Shlomo Ashkenazi, son of HaGaon, rav of beis medrash Avnei Tzedek shlit"a.

The Rebbe shlit"a washed for the seudah. During the seudah the Rebbe used a Zemiros Barach Moshe and looked into the minhagim for an extended time.
Pleasant conversations developed about stories of tzaddikim and various customs of our holy Rebbes zy"a.
The Rebbe shlit"a honored the following with the zemiros: Baruch Hashem: HaRav R' Avrohom Wieder. Baruch Kel Elyon: HaRav R' Dovid Eckstein.
For Birkas Hamazon the Rebbe honored the host, the distinguished philanthropist R' Moshe Yeshaya Wertzberger.
After bentching the Rebbe wished blessings to the host and his family.

In his Torah, the Rebbe shlit"a addressed the verse "And Avrohom was old, advanced in days, and Hashem blessed Avrohom with everything," and explained that when a Jew performs a mitzvah, it leaves behind an impression of holiness, and this makes it possible afterwards to do teshuva.

Maariv for Motzei Shabbos: HaRav R' Yechiel Klein. After Havdalah the Rebbe shlit"a wished the entire crowd a good week, and returned to his lodging. It ended at around 7:10.

Report of the elevated visit and holy journey of the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a to Montreal, Canada - Part 3

Friday, Parshas Chayei Sarah

At around 9:30 the Rebbe shlit"a arrived at our great beis medrash, "Binyan Shmuel Binyamin," for Shacharis together with over 100 bochurim of our community in Montreal. A huge crowd of guests from our community also davened there, having come to take part in the uplifting Shabbos in the Rebbe's presence.

Upon arrival, the Rebbe entered the main hall of the great beis medrash, where the "three consecutive hours of learning" gathering was taking place. The bochurim were engaged in learning Torah as a major preparation for the elevated davening together with the Rebbe shlit"a. The Rebbe walked among the tables and spoke with the bochurim about their learning, with great nachas.

The Rebbe shlit"a put on tefillin in the beis medrash. Before davening, the Rebbe put tefillin on the bar mitzvah bochur, the bochur Yaakov Yitzchak Steinmetz (may he live and be well).

After davening, a lechayim gathering was held with the bochurim. They sang several inspiring and uplifting melodies, and the Rebbe drank lechayim and blessed the bochurim.

R' Berish Gross shlit"a, menahel of the yeshiva ketana, spoke. He welcomed the Rebbe and described the great preparation of the bochurim for the elevated visit over the past weeks, with thousands of consecutive hours of Torah learning. He then presented the Rebbe with a "minchas bikkurim" of 9,474 consecutive hours that the bochurim learned, and handed over a collective kvitel with all their names. The Rebbe looked it over with great nachas and satisfaction.

The Rebbe shlit"a delivered a lengthy address of divrei kodesh and guidance for the bochurim, on all matters, and concluded with abundant blessings. He then left the bochurim with a lomdishe question on the sugya they are learning in yeshiva, Maseches Gittin, in the sugya of "ed echad ne'eman be'issurin," and asked the bochurim to look for answers to the question.
The Rebbe shlit"a then distributed a sefer Vayoel Moshe to all the bochurim who took part in the "three consecutive hours of learning" gathering before davening. It concluded at around 12:30.

After the lechayim gathering, on his way out, the Rebbe shlit"a affixed a mezuzah on the main entrance to the beis medrash hall.

Thursday, Parshas Chayei Sarah

At around 9:30 the Rebbe shlit"a arrived at our great beis medrash, "Binyan Shmuel Binyamin," for Shacharis together with the older children from grade 6 and up. Upon arriving, the Rebbe looked around at the talmud torah students who were engaged in learning Torah before davening. The Rebbe walked around among the tables and heard the children's learning, with great nachas.

The Rebbe shlit"a put on tallis and tefillin in the beis medrash. Before davening, the Rebbe put tefillin on the bar mitzvah bochur, the bochur Shalom Schwartz (Montreal).
For the Torah reading, the aliyos went to: Kohen: R' Shmuel HaKohen Friedman, a member of the Rebbe's entourage; Levi: HaGaon Rabbi Mendel Wertzberger shlit"a, dayan and moreh d'asra of our holy kehilla; Shlishi: the Rebbe shlit"a; Hagbah: R' Chaim Shlomo Fisher, a member of the Rebbe's entourage; Gelilah: the bar mitzvah boy.

After davening, a festive lechayim gathering and "Bnei Heim" assembly took place in the main hall of the beis medrash, with close to 250 talmud torah children of our holy kehilla from first grade and up. The children sang songs of devotion, and several children recited special rhymes in honor of the occasion. HaRav Nosson Binyamin Eckstein shlit"a spoke, expressing the feelings the children have toward the exalted visit and preparing the children to receive the holy words and guidance of the Rebbe shlit"a.
The Rebbe shlit"a drank a lechayim and blessed the melamdim, the children, and the entire community. He delivered holy words and guidance to the children, arousing them to be careful with the trait of truth, to walk with their tzitzis out, to daven and recite brachos aloud and with kavanah, and concluded with his holy blessings.
After the holy words, the Rebbe gave shirayim to the melamdim to distribute to the children, and afterwards all the children went over to receive a blessed coin from the Rebbe shlit"a. The gathering ended at around 12:20.

In the afternoon hours, at around 2:30, the Rebbe shlit"a visited the rabbonim of the city shlit"a, where wonderful conversations took place about Torah and Chassidus, stories and customs, and more.
First, the Rebbe went for a private visit to his brother-in-law, HaGaon HaTzaddik, the Av Beis Din shlit"a, for a longer time.

From there the Rebbe went to visit HaGaon Rabbi Yaakov Eliyahu Unsdorfer shlit"a, Av Beis Din and Rosh Yeshiva of Reishis Chochmah Montreal. The talmidim of his yeshiva, "Reishis Chochmah," were also present together with the roshei yeshiva. A warm, friendly conversation took place about matters of shlichus. The Rav shlit"a honored the Rebbe with a lechayim and the Rebbe bestowed from his holy blessings. After the visit, the yeshiva students came over to greet the Rebbe, and the Rav shlit"a accompanied the Rebbe shlit"a out to the street.

From there the Rebbe shlit"a went to visit HaGaon Rabbi Yechiel Meir Katz shlit"a, Av Beis Din of Dzhibov. A pleasant conversation took place about stories of tzaddikim zy"a and more. The Rav shlit"a honored the Rebbe with a lechayim and the Rebbe bestowed from his holy blessings, and the Rav accompanied the Rebbe out to the street.

From there the Rebbe shlit"a went to visit HaGaon Rabbi Yochanan Wasner shlit"a, Rosh Av Beis Din of Skver. A Torah conversation took place, during which the dayan showed the Rebbe responsa he had received from the HaGaon, dayan and moreh d'asra of our Montreal kehilla shlit"a, and they discussed the hiddurim of a mikvah spring, eruvin in the old country, and stories of the Yismach Moshe zy"a. The dayan shlit"a honored the Rebbe with a lechayim and the Rebbe bestowed from his holy blessings, and the dayan accompanied the Rebbe out to the street.

After the visit, at around 5:00, the Rebbe shlit"a davened Mincha in our great beis medrash.

After Mincha, at around 5:30, the Rebbe shlit"a went to visit the Vizhnitz Rebbe of Montreal shlit"a. A pleasant conversation took place about stories of the holy Rabbi, the Maharid of Belz zy"a, and of the holy Rebbe, the Divrei Yoel zy"a. The Vizhnitz Rebbe shlit"a honored the Rebbe with a lechayim and the Rebbe bestowed from his holy blessings.
After the visit, the Vizhnitz Rebbe shlit"a asked the crowd to go out and closeted himself with the Rebbe for several minutes, and afterwards the Vizhnitz Rebbe accompanied the Rebbe shlit"a out to the street.
From there the Rebbe shlit"a went to visit HaGaon R' Asher Greenfeld shlit"a, rav of the Vizhnitz Eretz Yisroel kehilla in Montreal. A longer conversation took place on the topic of "ein shaliach l'davar aveirah" and stories of the Divrei Chaim zy"a. The Rav shlit"a honored the Rebbe with a lechayim and the Rebbe bestowed from his holy blessings, and the Rav shlit"a accompanied the Rebbe shlit"a out to the street.

From there the Rebbe shlit"a went to visit the moreh d'asra, HaGaon R' Yonason Binyamin Weiss shlit"a, Gaavad of Montreal. A conversation took place about shechita in Montreal. The Rav shlit"a honored the Rebbe with a lechayim and the Rebbe bestowed from his holy blessings.

At around 7:50 the Rebbe shlit"a davened Maariv at the guesthouse. After Maariv, from around 8:10, the first part of the yechidus (entry for private meetings) took place for the members of the community of Montreal, who entered in a pre-arranged order, and it continued until around 11:45 at night.

Report of the Visit and Holy Journey to Montreal, Canada - Part 1

At around 6:00 the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a left his holy home on the way to Stewart Airport, and at around 6:40 the private plane took off on the way to the exalted visit and holy journey to Montreal, may it be His will.

Blessed is the one who comes in the name of Hashem

At 7:35 in the evening the plane landed, b'shaah tovah u'mutzlachas, at the local airport. Outside the airport, a large crowd of our chassidim waited with song and praise to greet the holy presence of the Rebbe shlit"a, together with the elders and dignitaries of the kehilla, baalei batim, avreichim and choice bochurim, and the entire crowd came forward to greet him with Shalom.

From there the Rebbe shlit"a arrived at the lodging in the home of R' Baruch Avrohom Perlmutter.

At the lodging, the prominent philanthropist R' Hershel Friedman, owner of the well-known Agri Star slaughterhouse in Iowa, where our kehilla's mehudar shechita operation is stationed, came in specially for a visit.

At around 9:00 the Rebbe shlit"a arrived at our great and splendid beis medrash for a grand reception, with drums and dancing, with the participation of hundreds of our chassidim, elders and youths, bochurim and young children, led by all the rabbonim and dayanim of the city shlit"a.

Upon arriving, the Rebbe looked around at the magnificent prayer halls and then went up to the main hall of the beis medrash for the festive gathering.
Songs of inspiration were sung, and R' Mordechai Hersh Goldman, one of the gabbaim of the beis medrash, stepped forward and called upon HaGaon Rabbi Mendel Wertzberger shlit"a, dayan of our holy kehilla, who greeted and welcomed the Rebbe with heartfelt emotion and spoke warm words in honor of the occasion. Afterwards HaGaon HaTzaddik Rabbi Yaakov Eliyahu Unsdorfer shlit"a, Av Beis Din of Reishis Chochma Montreal, stepped forward and spoke of the tremendous positive impact and influence of the Rebbe shlit"a, and the merit our chassidim have to be under the holy shade of the Rebbe shlit"a.

The Rebbe shlit"a said lechayim and blessed the entire crowd, and delivered words of Torah. The Rebbe mentioned the journeys of our holy Rebbes zy"a to Montreal and the influence they had for all eternity, and in their merit we merited the inauguration of such a magnificent beis medrash for Torah and prayer. He spoke in praise of our holy kehilla in Montreal and the good reports that are heard back, and concluded with his holy blessing to the entire crowd, "May it be His will that the Shechinah rest upon the work of your hands," and that they should continue to go forward with ease until the coming of the Redeemer, b'mheirah b'yameinu.
After the words of Torah, the Rebbe warmly greeted his brother-in-law, HaGaon HaTzaddik, the Av Beis Din shlit"a, who came specially to travel for Shabbos from New York, as the Rav shlit"a is currently resting these days due to weakness. Then HaGaon, the Av Beis Din shlit"a stepped forward and spoke in praise of the kehilla, and expressed the tremendous joy our chassidim have with the visit of the Rebbe shlit"a.
Afterwards the singing of joy continued as the entire crowd of our chassidim, elders and youths, came forward to greet the Rebbe shlit"a for an extended time.

After the gathering the Rebbe davened Maariv in the main hall of the beis medrash, and it concluded at around 10:40.

When the tzaddik is in the city, he is its glory, its splendor, and its majesty

Wednesday, Parshas Chayei Sarah 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

In the morning, before Shacharis, the bris of the newborn son of R' Bentzion Chaim Zaldan took place, where the Rebbe served as sandek and mohel.

The Rebbe shlit"a davened Shacharis in the heichal of the Mesivta, 'Branch Divrei Yoel Moshe'. Before davening, the Rebbe put tefillin on the bar mitzvah bochurim:
The bochur Shmuel Yitzchak Wertzberger.
The bochur Aharon Wolf Paletchek.
After davening, the Rebbe recited the daily Tehillim shiur, on chapter 14, verse 7. Afterward, a lechayim was held with the bar mitzvah bochurim in his private room.

During the morning hours, HaGaon HaGadol Rabbi Michal Silber shlit"a, Rosh Yeshiva of Zhevhil in Eretz Yisroel, came for a yechidus with the Rebbe shlit"a. A lengthy learned conversation ensued on various areas of Torah, and the Rebbe honored him with a lechayim and bestowed his holy blessings.

In the afternoon, at around 4:40, the Rebbe davened Mincha in his holy home.

Tuesday, Parshas Chayei Sarah, 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

The Rebbe shlit"a davened Shacharis in the heichal of the Mesivta, 'Branch Beirach Moshe'. After davening, the Rebbe recited the daily Tehillim shiur, on chapter 14, verse 5.

In the afternoon, at around 5:10, the Rebbe davened Mincha in his holy home.

Later, the Rebbe shlit"a traveled into Williamsburg for the weekly yechidus hours.
The yechidus hours in the Rebbe's holy home on Hooper St. lasted from 8:15 until 11:40 PM.

During the yechidus hours, HaGaon HaTzaddik Rabbi Baruch Singer, Av Beis Din and Rav of Alexander in Boro Park, came for a visit on the occasion of the simcha of his son's wedding, and the Rebbe bestowed his holy blessings. Likewise, a delegation from "Kollel Chibas Yerushalayim" entered to receive the Rebbe's holy blessing on the occasion of the annual dinner on Motzei Shabbos in Williamsburg. A conversation took place about the history of the kollel and its numerous beneficial activities, and the Rebbe bestowed his holy blessings.

The Rebbe shlit"a davened Maariv at around 11:00 and afterward continued receiving the public.
