Thursday 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

At around 8:20 the Rebbe shlit"a entered for Shacharis in the Beis Chabad beis medrash. Before davening, the Rebbe greeted his longtime chavrusa, HaGaon Rabbi Yaakov Eliyahu Unsdorfer shlit"a, Av Beis Din of Reishis Chochmah, Montreal, and a warm, friendly conversation developed.

Wednesday 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

At around 8:20 the Rebbe shlit"a entered for Shacharis in the Beis Chabad beis medrash. Baal tefillah: Rabbi Alexander Nachum Gottlieb shlit"a (Kiryas Joel).

In the morning hours at around 10:30 the Rebbe shlit"a went for a walk in Neot Desha with a select few distinguished members of our kehilla, during which a splendid conversation took place on divrei Torah and Chassidus, holy customs, and stories of tzaddikim of the holy Divrei Yechezkel of Shinova zy"a and of the holy Chasam Sofer zy"a.

In the late afternoon at around 5:40 the Rebbe shlit"a entered for Mincha. Baal tefillah: R' Yaakov Yosef Filaff (Kiryas Joel). Between Mincha and Maariv the Rebbe engaged in Torah study at his place in the beis medrash, and at the time of Rabbeinu Tam Maariv was davened. Baal tefillah: R' Shlomo Hersh the son of R' Moshe Eckstein (Kiryas Joel).

Tuesday 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

At around 8:20 the Rebbe shlit"a entered for Shacharis in the Beis Chabad beis medrash. Baal tefillah: R' Michel Feldman (Kiryas Joel). After davening, a lechayim gathering took place in honor of the yahrzeit of the holy Baal HaTanya zy"a. The Rebbe drank lechayim and related holy stories for an extended time.

Afterwards the Rebbe shlit"a walked home. On the way home a fine conversation developed about Chassidus in the time of the Baal HaTanya, and about studying grammar and Tanach.

In the late afternoon at around 5:40 the Rebbe shlit"a entered for Mincha. Baal tefillah: R' Simcha Yisroel Apfel (Kiryas Joel).
After Mincha, the HaGaon Av Beis Din of Monsey shlit"a took leave of the Rebbe shlit"a, and a fine conversation developed. Afterwards the Rebbe engaged in Torah study at his place in the beis medrash, and at the time of Rabbeinu Tam Maariv was davened. Baal tefillah: R' Wolf the son of R' Dovid Landau (Kiryas Joel).

Shabbos Kodesh, Parshas Shemos — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a, in the resort city of Palm Springs, California.

On Friday afternoon at approximately 3:50, at the time of the visible sunset, the Rebbe shlit"a, as is his custom, ceased from melacha.

On Friday night at approximately 5:35, the Rebbe shlit"a entered the Chabad beis medrash, wrapped in his tallis, and approached the amud for Mincha. Kabbalas Shabbos: R' Shmuel Wasserman (Williamsburg).

The davening concluded at approximately 7:05. The congregation went over to wish a "Gut Shabbos," and the Rebbe walked home to his holy residence.

At the Friday night seudah at his holy residence, the doors were opened to the public at approximately 9:30. The Rebbe shlit"a honored people with the zemiros. Kol Mekadesh: Rabbi Avrohom Dovid Wagschal shlit"a (Monsey); Menucha V'simcha: Rabbi Moshe Baruch Silber shlit"a (Boro Park).

The Rebbe shlit"a delivered Torah on the verse "A new king arose over Egypt," and explained, in the manner of a derush, the sugya of "min b'mino lo batel" (a substance does not become nullified in its own kind).

Shabbos Kodesh Day

On Shabbos morning the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash at approximately 9:30. Pesukei D'zimra: R' Yitzchak Dovid Landau (Williamsburg). The Rebbe shlit"a approached the amud for Shacharis, and the chazaras hashatz was led by the Gaon, the Rav of the beis medrash, Rabbi Baruch Moshe shlit"a.

Before the Torah reading, R' Moshe Falkowitz made an appeal on behalf of the local beis medrash.

At Shalosh Seudos the Rebbe shlit"a honored people with the zemiros. Odeh: R' Yehoshua Mandelowitz, a Shabbos guest; Shir Hamaalos: R' Simcha Yosef Wiesenfeld.

During the Torah, the Rebbe shlit"a focused on the verse "These are the names of the children of Yisroel," and explained that Pharaoh tried to cause Yidden to stumble with forbidden sights, because he understood that a single forbidden thought creates negative forces that prevent teshuva. But for one who delights in Shabbos, "he is given an inheritance without limits," as the third Shabbos meal corresponds to Yaakov. Through delighting in Shabbos, especially Shalosh Seudos, "the inheritance of Yaakov," according to the custom of chassidim and men of deeds, Yaakov Avinu comes, who is called Yisroel because he wrestled with an angel, and he comes to help in a situation where a person can no longer manage with his own strength. Therefore Pharaoh wanted to nullify Shabbos. Now, in the days of Shovavim, which are especially suited for rectifying all blemishes, one should see to extend the Shalosh Seudos, for Yidden to sit together with longing and holy arousal, adding from the weekday to the holy. In this way one can arrive at proper reflection and at complete teshuva.

In the afternoon at approximately 5:35, the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash for Mincha. Baal tefillah: R' Chaim Yaakov Lebovitch (Kiryas Joel). Between Mincha and Maariv the Rebbe learned Torah at his place in the beis medrash, and at the time of Rabbeinu Tam he davened Maariv. Baal tefillah: R' Shlomo Hersh Bar"m Eckstein (Kiryas Joel).
After Maariv, the chalakeh took place for the child, the bochur Mendel Ber Weider. The Rebbe cut off several hairs, put on the kapel and the tzitzis, and offered blessings to the father and to the grandfather, R' Avrohom Weider, who is the Rav of Kiryas Joel.

After davening, the Rebbe shlit"a walked home. On the way home, a fine conversation took place about the Bnei Yissaschar zy"a, the exiles of the city of Sighet, and the rabbinate of the holy R' Elazar Nisan zy"a in the city of Sighet.
