Shabbos Parshas Shelach, Mevarchim Chodesh Tammuz — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

On Erev Shabbos afternoon, the Rebbe shlit"a put the shtreimels on the chasanim.
The chasan Lipa, the bochur, son of Chaim Dovid Fried.
The chasan Shlomo Dovid, the bochur, son of Yoel Wolf Schwartz.

On Friday night at around 9:00, the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash wrapped in his tallis and approached the amud for Mincha and Kabbalas Shabbos: R' Yitzchak Elkim Schwartz.
They finished at around 10:30, the congregation went over to wish a gut Shabbos, and the Rebbe went into his private room.

A short time after davening, the Rebbe shlit"a entered the Shulchan Hall together with the talmidei hamesivta and began, as is his holy custom, with Shalom Aleichem, with feeling and melody.
Eishes Chayil: the Rebbe's grandson, the bochur Meir Eliezer, may he be well, son of HaGaon HaTzaddik, Rav of the beis medrash, Barech Moshe shlit"a. Lifting of the cup: HaGaon Rabbi Avrohom Meir Dirnfeld shlit"a, director of our holy institutions in Beit Shemesh.

The Rebbe shlit"a honored people with the zemiros. Kol Mekadesh: HaGaon Rabbi Yosef Shmuel Berkowitz shlit"a, a moreh tzedek. Menucha V'Simcha: R' Yisroel HaKohen Landau (of Williamsburg).

The Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the verse "Shelach lecha anashim" and explained, in the manner of a derush, the sugya of one who seizes property for a creditor in a case where it harms others.

Stories and accounts: This week the Rebbe shlit"a told over about HaRav HaKadosh R' Yehoshua Heshel zt"l, son of HaRav HaKadosh, the Baruch Taam zt"l, whose yahrzeit fell on Friday, the 4th of Tammuz.

Kah Ribon Olam: HaGaon Rabbi Avrohom Meir Dirnfeld shlit"a. The new chasanim went over to take fruit, as Bayom Hashvi'i: HaGaon Rabbi Yoel Kellner shlit"a (Manchester). They finished at around 1:40.

Uvayom HaShabbos Kodesh

On Shabbos morning, the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash at around 9:40. Pesukei D'Zimra: R' Shlomo Rubinstein. The Rebbe shlit"a said Vechrois verse by verse, and then approached the amud for Shacharis.

Hotzaah and Hachnasah: R' Avrohom Yaakov Fried (of Williamsburg). The verses of Shema Yisroel: R' Moshe Yuda Hirsch.

Aliyos. Kohen: R' Aharon Yosef Schwartz. Levi: the chasan, the bochur Yaakov Pinchas Friedman - with a bewarfen. Shlishi: the chasan, the bochur Michoel Moshe Brill - with a bewarfen. Revi'i: the chasan, the bochur Yoel Wolf Schwartz - with a bewarfen. Chamishi: the chasan, the bochur Yoel Peketa - with a bewarfen. Shishi: the Rebbe shlit"a.

After his aliyah, the Rebbe shlit"a recited the Mi Sheberach and gave the name in honor of the birth of a daughter for:
R' Hershel Hollander.
R' Meir Hersh Levi.

The Rebbe shlit"a blessed the new month with great arousal.

After davening, a bris took place for the newborn son of R' Eizik Hersh Spielman, at which the Rebbe was sandek and mohel. They finished at around 12:45.

In the afternoon at around 7:45, the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash for Pirkei Avos. The Rebbe took up Perek 3, Mishnah 3: "Rabbi Shimon says: three who ate at one table and did not speak words of Torah over it, it is as if they ate from sacrifices of the dead; but three who ate at one table and spoke words of Torah over it, it is as if they ate from the table of Hashem." The Rebbe explained it in many ways in the manner of derush, aggadah and mussar, and spoke out about various matters needing correction, among them the breach of a male photographer at the kallah, which is not tolerated according to the Torah, and he urged parents to stand guard so that it should not happen. He concluded with words of blessing for the coming summer days, IY"H, and urged that no one let up even slightly when traveling away, in the kashrus of foods and in Torah learning. They finished at around 8:45 and the Rebbe went into his private room.
Ra'avah D'Ra'avin

The Rebbe shlit"a entered for Mincha and Seudah Shlishis at around 9:00. Mincha: R' Yaakov Yosef Filaf. Kohen: R' Avrohom Mattisyahu Kahn. Levi: R' Efraim Friedman (of Williamsburg). Shlishi: R' Chaim Elazar Spitzer (of Williamsburg). Hagbah: the Rebbe shlit"a. Gelilah: R' Moshe Dovid Weingarten.

At Seudah Shlishis, the Rebbe honored people with the zemiros. Odeh: R' Noach Gefen. Shir HaMaalos: R' Moshe Goldstein.

The Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the verse "And it shall be, when you eat of the bread of the land, you shall set aside a portion for Hashem," and explained that in order to be able to daven, one needs an opening, both an opening of the mouth and an opening of the heart, and through engaging in Torah one merits "Yiftach libeinu b'sorasecha," that the heart should open to the Creator. Therefore it was the custom of Yisroel to learn before davening, so that the openings of the heart should open.

Yedid Nefesh: R' Shalom Peketa. Kel Mistateir: R' Chaim Azriel Yazshef (Bnei Brak). The Rebbe recited the blessing over the cup.

Maariv of Motzei Shabbos: R' Shaul Leib Zaldan. After Havdalah, the congregation went over to wish a gutte voch. They finished at around 11:25.

On Motzei Shabbos, a group of yeshiva students from Lakewood who had spent Shabbos b'tzeil hakodesh entered the Rebbe's holy home. The Rebbe inquired about their studies and bestowed his holy blessings upon them.

At around 12:45, the Rebbe shlit"a went to the home of the distinguished philanthropist R' Moshe Yosef Wertheimer for a lechayim celebration in honor of his son's engagement, mazel tov. There, a document signing took place in which R' Moshe Yosef purchased a gate in the new hall in the Mivtzar HaKollelim building, and pledged a large sum for the mikvah in Kiryas Joel. A lengthy conversation ensued about the housing shortage in Kiryas Joel and various plans currently on the table, with hope that soon it will be possible to build apartments at a very low price of under two hundred dollars per square foot! - as already widely reported.
The Rebbe signed the documents together with the donor, and R' Moshe Yosef handed over a large portion of the money on the spot. The Rebbe praised him for giving the check on the spot and not waiting to be chased for the money. The Rebbe drank lechayim and bestowed his holy blessings upon the donor, the chasan, the mechutanim, and the whole family.

"When you build a new house!"

Last night, Motzei Shabbos, the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a visited the home of HaRav R' Moshe Yosef Wertheimer, where R' Moshe Yosef signed a contract before the Rebbe on the occasion of purchasing a major zechus within the new Heichal HaTorah being built on a huge new floor through the "Mivtzar HaKollelim" in Kiryas Joel.
During the conversations, the Rebbe told R' Moshe Yosef that several years ago the Rebbe had asked him to bring details on apartment prices and construction costs, and he can now tell him that a plan is moving forward to build very inexpensive apartments for members of our community who struggle to find an apartment.
The Rebbe related that last week a young man came in and said that he had put down a deposit on an apartment in the Bloomingrove area of Kiryas Joel, and no more and no less, he is paying a fantastic 1.2 million dollars for it! (This is for 3000 square feet, plus a basement of 1500 raw square feet. It comes out to nearly 400 dollars per built square foot, the same high price being paid now in the center of Kiryas Joel.)
"It did not let me sleep!" the Rebbe said. "There is already a separate Jewish village there, there is enough large land, and such a price?!"
The Rebbe continued that regarding Chevron, someone came to say that he wants to buy, and they are asking close to 500 dollars per square foot! And when he asked, "When will it be ready?" they answered, "In about 5 years!"
And the Rebbe asks: "They are not even building yet, perhaps he won't even build, perhaps he will break the contract and have to beg for money?! Why pay such money?!"
Here the Rebbe told those present some quiet news: "Since people are talking about 5 years from now, I want to say that by then I hope to have apartments to live in, for under 200 a square foot!"
The Rebbe related that in recent times he has been sitting with plans and with the Kiryas Joel administration, and is working out an approach for such a mitzvah project, dedicated only to members of our community, only to graduates of our holy yeshivas, and built in an inexpensive manner so that such a price can come about. "The way they built in the past, when I lived on Carter Lane," the Rebbe said, bringing out that we need to bring back the standards of the past and thus not have to pay such astronomical prices.
"The land does not yet have sewage," the Rebbe said, "but within 5 years it can already be, IY"H."
This comes after the Rebbe has already been engaged for a long time in finding a solution to the sky-high problem, as so many members of the community come in to pour out their hearts that they cannot afford today's apartment prices, which are jumping so high.
In the last 4 weeks the matter has moved a bit closer. The Rebbe called in various builders and went over the numbers, how much such a project needs to cost. Then the Rebbe spoke with the Kiryas Joel administration, and worked out various proposals for where IY"H to set up land for such a project.
The main principles the Rebbe set down as his plan are:
1) The apartments should be built in the old style without today's luxuries (no 9-foot ceilings, no central air conditioning, no spot lights, an inexpensive kitchen, no expensive tiles)
2) Especially for members of our community, upright members of the kehilla
3) It is an apartment to live in, not for real estate (it cannot be sold onward, but is sold back to the kehilla)
4) The apartment is paid for gradually during construction, so that the builders won't need to take a construction loan (details are still being worked out by the Rebbe)
Regarding the inexpensive style of building, the Rebbe said, "One can live with plain smooth doors, without tiles in the bathroom on all sides. I still live like that now on Sans Court..."
The Rebbe said that he hopes to succeed because the requests of young couples are very serious, Jews are sighing bitterly and have no roof over their heads. "I cannot bear it," the Rebbe said, continuing, "That is why I am telling this, so that people should know that they need not buy now for 5 years from now! There will be, IY"H, inexpensive apartments, not fancy apartments, apartments to live in!"

"Before kings and ministers he shall stand," for the sake of the chinuch of our children!

At around 1:30, a private meeting took place in the holy home of the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a with a delegation of very high-ranking politicians from Washington, where the Rebbe shlit"a presented our ongoing campaign regarding the chinuch decrees.
The congressman elected from the 18th Congressional District, Pat Ryan, who won his seat only thanks to Kiryas Joel, personally brought to the Rebbe the top leader of the Democratic Party in Congress, the Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, the most powerful Democrat in the Washington legislature, who also has strong influence on the executive branch under the President.

The Rebbe sat with the two congressmen for an extended time, during which our chinuch was the main topic of discussion. The Rebbe presented to them the current state of the chinuch decrees, both from the side of the courts and from the side of Albany, and made clear our determination to continue the traditional chinuch, which goes back thousands of years since the giving of the Torah at Har Sinai, without any change. He also conveyed where we want the help of the federal Democratic Party: that they should stand together with the New York State Democratic Party leaders who run the state legislatures in Albany, to hopefully ensure that any "guidelines" and decrees will not be able to affect or harm, chas v'shalom, the chareidi mosdos in any way.

Leader Hakeem Jeffries expressed great pleasure after his visit to the streets of the city and to the Eishes Chayil Kimpeturin home, saying that he sees the beauty of the city and appreciates our wonderful way of life, and that he will do whatever he can to fulfill all the requests of the Rebbe shlit"a. He also thanked Kiryas Joel for its strong block vote, which brought his party's congressman Pat Ryan into our district, thanks to Kiryas Joel's endorsement led by the Rebbe shlit"a.

May the heart of the government be inclined toward us for good.

Thursday, Parshas Shelach 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

The Satmar Rebbe shlit"a davened Shacharis in the Heichal HaMesivta, Beirach Moshe branch. Before davening, the Rebbe put tefillin on the bar mitzvah bochurim.

The bochur Meir Gross.
During the Torah reading the Rebbe went to hagbah, and after davening he recited the daily Tehillim shiur, on chapter 17, verse 2. Afterward a lechayim was held with the bar mitzvah bochurim in his private room.

During the morning hours, the talmidim of Yeshivas Toras Menachem of Lakewood entered the Rebbe's room. The Rebbe spoke with them about the yeshiva's shiurim, and the bochurim then went over to receive his holy blessing.
The Rebbe shlit"a also paid a condolence call by telephone to the elderly R' Nachman Yakob and family in Yerushalayim, the holy city, on the passing of his daughter a"h, the wife of R' Chaim Meir Friedman.

The times of entry to the Rebbe's room were from about 8:40 until 12:50 at night, in his holy home on Uhel Court.
The Rebbe davened Mincha at 8:40.

The Rebbe shlit"a read the tenaim in the tenaim hall in his holy home, for the mechutanim R' Yoel Berach Lichtman and R' Yitzchak Meiselsz.

The Rebbe davened Maariv at around 12:50.

Wednesday, Parshas Shelach, 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

In the morning, before Shacharis, the brissim took place.
For the son born to R' Lipa Berish"l Fried, where the Rebbe was sandek.
For the son born to R' Yoel Yitzchak Greenwald, where the Rebbe was sandek.

The Rebbe shlit"a davened Shacharis in the Heichal of the Mesivta, the Yoel Moshe branch. Before davening, the Rebbe put tefillin on the bar mitzvah bochurim.

After davening, the Rebbe learned the daily Tehillim shiur on chapter 17, verse 2, after which a lechayim took place with the bar mitzvah bochurim in his private room.

In the morning hours, the Rebbe shlit"a participated in the levaya of R' Yechezkel Shraga Friedman a"h in his beis medrash on Satmar Drive; the Rebbe delivered words of eulogy and then accompanied the bier.

In the evening at around 8:30, the Rebbe shlit"a went to the home of R' Berel Stein, a member of the Mivtzar HaKollelim board, to the Sheva Brachos simcha in honor of the marriage of his son, mazel tov. A pleasant conversation took place about the chaburos of Mivtzar HaKollelim and about the ongoing construction on the new floor in the Mivtzar HaKollelim building. There a signing of contracts took place in which R' Berel purchased a gate in the new heichal in the Mivtzar HaKollelim building. The Rebbe signed the contracts, drank a lechayim together with the donor, and bestowed his holy blessings upon the donor, the chassan, the mechutanim, and the entire family.

Yechidus hours were from around 9:00 until 12:55 at night at his holy home on Uhel Court.
The Rebbe davened Mincha at 9:00.

The Rebbe shlit"a read the tenaim in the tenaim hall at his holy home, between the mechutanim R' Meir Mendel Weiss and R' Moshe Hersh Brach.

During the yechidus hours, Rabbi Baruch Tzvi Mordechai Tanzer shlit"a, Rosh HaKollel of Chesed David in Yerushalayim, the holy city, entered. It encompasses six kollelim with hundreds of young men. A conversation took place about the many sefarim that have already been published by the rabbanim and learners of the kollel, and the Rebbe bestowed his holy blessings upon him.

The Rebbe davened Maariv at around 12:55.
