The Night of Tisha B'Av 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

The Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash for Maariv at around 9:45. The baal tefillah was HaRav R' Betzalel Binyamin Friedrich (Kiryas Joel).

"She weeps bitterly in the night"
After Maariv, the Rebbe shlit"a recited Megillas Eichah and the Kinos for the night of Tisha B'Av, lamenting the destruction of the Beis HaMikdash with intense weeping. The chazzan was the Motzei Shabbos chazzan, R' Yoshe Mendlowitz. They finished at around 10:50.

Thursday, Tisha B'Av

The Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash for Shacharis at around 9:45.
During Birchos HaShachar, the Rebbe also recited the blessing of "she'asah li kol tzarki." The baal tefillah was HaRav R' Meshulam Zusha Lewy (Williamsburg).

Petucha: R' Hershel Ganz (Kiryas Joel); Kohen: Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Kahana; Levi: R' Moshe Aryeh Friedman (Kiryas Joel); Shlishi and Maftir: the Rebbe shlit"a; Hagbah: R' Yehuda Binyamin Landau (Kiryas Joel); Gelilah: the bochur Yeshaya Shabsi Brach (Kiryas Joel).
The Rebbe then recited the Haftorah and its blessings, weeping bitterly, for an extended time.

After the Torah reading, the Rebbe recited the Kinos for Tisha B'Av with weeping and lamentation. The Motzei Shabbos chazzan, R' Yoshe Mendlowitz, led. After the Kinos, they concluded with Ashrei, U'va L'Tzion, and Aleinu. They finished at around 1:00.

The Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash for Mincha at around 7:05. The Rebbe put on tallis and tefillin in the beis medrash, and then put tefillin on the bar mitzvah bochur, son of R' Chaim Yoshe Lewy shlit"a (Kiryas Joel).
The Rebbe recited the four parshiyos, taking the tzitzis at Krias Shema, and then completed the Shir Shel Yom and Kavei.
The baal tefillah was R' Elchanan Taub (Kiryas Joel). Petucha: R' Dovid Farkash. Kohen: the bochur Chaim Shaul Kahn (Kiryas Joel). Levi: the bar mitzvah bochur. Shlishi and Maftir: the Rebbe shlit"a. Hagbah: HaRav R' Yosef Massri (Kiryas Joel). Gelilah: HaRav R' Eliezer Hersh Neiman (Kiryas Joel).

After Mincha, the Rebbe put on Rabbeinu Tam tefillin and recited the five daily chapters of Tehillim. They finished at around 8:10.
On the way home, a conversation developed about various Tisha B'Av customs, among others about going to the mikvah on Motzei Tisha B'Av.

At the time of Rabbeinu Tam, the Rebbe entered the beis medrash for Maariv.

May it be Hashem's will that the Beis HaMikdash be rebuilt speedily in our days, and may these days be transformed into joy and gladness.

Wednesday, Parshas Vaeschanan — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a, in the resort town of Bethlehem, New Hampshire

The Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash for Shacharis at around 8:45. Before davening, the Rebbe put tefillin on the bar mitzvah bochur, son of HaGaon R' Yoel Getzel shlit"a, a maggid shiur in our kehilla in Monsey.

After davening, a lechayim was held with the bar mitzvah bochur, and a conversation developed. The Rebbe spoke in a child's voice, with tears, with longing and yearning for the salvation, and said that "the day is still great" — we can still merit the Redemption, and Tisha B'Av may yet be a Yom Tov.
The Rebbe then walked home to his holy residence.

Tuesday, Parshas Va'eschanan — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

The Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash for Shacharis at around 8:45. Before davening, the Rebbe put on tefillin for the bar mitzvah bochur Dovid Yisroel Baruch Unger (Kiryas Joel).

After davening, the congregation came over to wish the Rebbe shlit"a mazel tov on the simcha of the engagement of his grandson, the chassan HaRav Meir Eliezer Teitelbaum shlit"a, son of his son-in-law, the Rav of the beis medrash Bereich Moshe, shlit"a.

Afterward a lechayim gathering took place with the bar mitzvah bochur, and a conversation developed about the halachos of aveilus from the seventh of Av onward.

Afterward the Rebbe walked home. On the way a conversation developed about the expansion of the holy borders of Kiryas Joel, and various stories about the villages and towns and the old home.

Sunday, Parshas Va'eschanan — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a, in the resort town of Bethlehem, New Hampshire

The Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash for Shacharis at around 8:50. Baal tefillah: R' Reuven Glantz (Kiryas Joel).
After davening, the Shabbos guests came over to take their leave. Also, the yeshiva students, the bochur Yitzchak son of R' Yosef Mittelman (Williamsburg), and the bochur Meir son of R' Yuda Hersh Berger (Kiryas Joel), presented an answer to the Rebbe's question.

Also, the askanim R' Reuven Glantz and R' Mendel Berish Eckstein presented to the Rebbe the lists of nearly six hundred families who registered for the affordable housing project that will be built in the coming years, arranged through the Rebbe shlit"a for the benefit of the community. The Rebbe reviewed the lists, inquired about various details, and bestowed his holy blessings upon the askanim.

Afterward a lechayim gathering took place on the occasion of the yahrzeit of the Arugas HaBosem zy"a. The Rebbe drank a lechayim and related stories and teachings about the Arugas HaBosem.

Afterward the Rebbe walked home. On the way a conversation developed about various housing projects being built in Kiryas Joel.

The Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash for Mincha at around 8:50. Between Mincha and Maariv the Rebbe engaged in Torah study in the beis medrash. Maariv was davened at the time of Rabbeinu Tam.

Shabbos Kodesh, Parshas Devarim — Shabbos Chazon — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a, in the resort town of Bethlehem, New Hampshire.

This week, the talmidim of the Mesivta, Kiryas Yoel branch, merited to spend Shabbos B'tzeil HaKodesh.

On Erev Shabbos after the mikvah, nearly 40 talmidim of the yeshiva presented answers to the Rebbe's question. The Rebbe received the answers with great nachas ruach. A booklet was also presented to the Rebbe, containing the 43 answers of the talmidim of the Mesivta, Kiryas Yoel branch.

On Friday night at around 8:55, the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash wrapped in his tallis and approached the amud for Mincha. Kabbalas Shabbos: HaRav R' Yoel Yitzchak Stern shlit"a, dayan of the Dinov beis medrash in Kiryas Joel and rebbi in the Mesivta.

Davening ended at around 10:30. The congregation wished a good Shabbos and shook hands, and the Rebbe went home to his holy residence.

At around 11:10 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the Shalosh Seudos... [sic] the Friday night seudah in the hall of the beis medrash together with the talmidim of the yeshiva and many guests from the community, and began, as is his custom, with Shalom Aleichem with feeling and sweetness.

Eishes Chayil: the Rebbe began it. Lifting the cup: the chasan's father-in-law... [sic] the Rav of the Even Tzedek beis medrash, HaGaon HaTzaddik shlit"a.

The Rebbe shlit"a honored people with the zemiros. Kol Mekadesh: R' Moshe Yosef Ashkenazi shlit"a (Monsey), rebbi in the yeshiva. Menucha V'Simcha: R' Mendel Friedman shlit"a (Monsey), rebbi in the yeshiva.

The Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the verse "These are the words that Moshe spoke," and explained it in the manner of a derush on the sugya of "ad v'ad bichlal."

Stories and anecdotes: This week the Rebbe shlit"a related about the holy Chozeh of Lublin zy"a, whose yahrzeit fell on Thursday, Tisha B'Av.

Kah Ribon Olam: R' Yisroel Landau (Williamsburg). The newly married chasanim went to take fruit, as "on the seventh day": R' Aharon Yosef Weiss (Boro Park). It ended at around 2:05.

On Shabbos morning the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash at around 9:45. Pesukei D'Zimra: R' Yisroel Landau. For Shacharis the Rebbe shlit"a approached the amud, and sent the Rav of the Even Tzedek beis medrash, HaGaon HaTzaddik shlit"a, to lead the chazaras hashatz.

At around 3:05 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash for the zemiros at the afternoon seudah, and kugel and lechayim were brought in.

During the seudah, several niggunim of galus and geulah were sung, as well as Yiddish niggunim, with great hisorerus.

The Rebbe honored people with the zemiros. Baruch Hashem Yom Yom: R' Moshe Kahana. Baruch Kel Elyon: R' Aharon Hersh Mittelman.

The Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the verse "These are the words that Moshe spoke to all Israel," and explained that the initials of the words spell "Adam Eichah," with a story of the holy Baal HaTanya zy"a. These were the words of mussar of Moshe Rabbeinu to the Jewish children, that one should reflect on oneself, how am I conducting myself in this world.

Gelilah: the bochur Yoel Goldberger (Williamsburg).

The Rebbe honored people with the zemiros at Shalosh Seudos. Odeh: R' Avrohom Wieder. Shir HaMaalos: R' Mordechai Klein (Williamsburg).

The Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the verse "These are the words that Moshe spoke before all Israel," and explained that by engaging in Torah, it suffices to recite the Thirteen Attributes of Mercy to arouse Hashem's attributes of mercy. He aroused the listeners with weeping that we are already 1,955 years after the churban Beis Hamikdash and still have not been redeemed, and urged strengthening ourselves in Torah study, and through this we will merit that these days will be transformed to joy and gladness.

Yedid Nefesh: R' Mordechai Hersh Goldman. Kel Mistater: R' Yehoshua Zalman Wertzberger shlit"a. The Rebbe made the bracha on the cup.

Maariv, Motzei Shabbos: R' Mordechai Hersh Goldman. After Havdalah, people went over to wish a good week. It ended at around 11:20.

At the Rebbe's holy residence at around 12:00, the talmidim of Yeshivas Amrei Pinchas Karitz in Kiryas Joel entered together with the rosh yeshiva, R' Meir Berkowitz shlit"a, who spent Shabbos at the nearby PMR resort. The Rebbe delivered words of blessing and chizuk to the bochurim.

The Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash for Shacharis at around 8:50.
