Wednesday: Parshas Haazinu — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

At around 5:45 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the Selichos recital in the Beis Medrash HaGadol. The baal tefillah was R' Elimelech Shimshon Schwartz. The Selichos concluded at around 6:30, and the Rebbe went home to his holy residence.

Before Shacharis, a bris took place for a newborn son of R' Yoel Broda, at which the Rebbe served as sandek and mohel.

The Rebbe shlit"a davened Shacharis in the Beis Medrash HaGadol. Before davening, the Rebbe put tefillin on the bar mitzvah bochurim.

The bochur Chaim Hersh Katz.
After davening, a lechayim was held with the bar mitzvah bochurim in his private room.

After Shacharis, the Rebbe shlit"a paid a shiva call to the family of R' Mordechai Herskovits a"h, and to the family of R' Dovid Yoshe Goldberger a"h.

In the afternoon at around 2:15, an urgent meeting took place at his holy residence with the rabbanim of the Va'ad HaChinuch of our holy institutions. Participating were the Gaon HaGadol, the Av Beis Din shlit"a, the rabbanim of our kehilla in Williamsburg and Monsey shlit"a, the Av Beis Din of Tshechnov shlit"a, who is also a rosh yeshiva of ours in Boro Park, HaGaon Rabbi Simcha Sholom Steinberger shlit"a, rav of the Divrei Chaim beis medrash and chairman of the Committee for Technology Affairs, as well as the dayanim of our holy kehilla and the members of the Va'ad HaChinuch. They spoke at length about various stumbling blocks regarding technology, and in particular discussed the problems arising from text messages on family telephone plans.

Yechidus hours were from around 6:30 in the evening until 11:30 at night, at his holy residence on Ohel Court.

The Rebbe shlit"a read the tenaim at a tenaim celebration at his holy residence for the following mechutanim.

Tuesday, Parshas Haazinu, "B'tzeil HaKodesh" with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

At around 5:45 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the Great Beis Medrash for the recital of Selichos. The baal tefillah was HaGaon Rabbi Aryeh Dov Kornbluh shlit"a, rosh yeshiva of the fourth shiur. They concluded at around 6:30, and the Rebbe went home to his holy residence.

The Rebbe shlit"a davened Shacharis in the Great Beis Medrash. Before davening, the Rebbe put tefillin on the bar mitzvah bochurim:
the bochur Boruch Mordechai Meyer.

After davening, a lechayim was held with the bar mitzvah bochurim in the Rebbe's private room.

During the morning hours, a bris took place for the newborn son of R' Avrohom Shimon Glanz in the home of his father, where the Rebbe served as sandek and mohel.

In the afternoon hours the Rebbe shlit"a traveled into Williamsburg for the weekly reception hours.
The reception hours in Kiryas Joel ran from around 4:30 until 10:30 at night, in his holy residence on Hughes St.

During the reception hours, a bris took place in the back, in the Beis Medrash Eitz Chaim of Sighet, for the newborn son of R' Avrohom Kalman Eliezer Massri, where the Rebbe served as sandek and mohel. After the bris, the Rebbe drank a lechayim and bestowed his holy blessings.

The Rebbe davened Mincha at around 7:20 and Maariv at around 9:30, and afterwards continued receiving the public.

Monday, Parshas Haazinu, 2 Tishrei (Tzom Gedalia), "B'tzeil HaKodesh" with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

At around 5:45 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the Great Beis Medrash for the recital of Selichos. The baal tefillah was R' Moshe Meir Gottlieb. They concluded at around 6:40, and the Rebbe went home to his holy residence.

The Rebbe shlit"a davened Shacharis in the Great Beis Medrash. Before davening, the Rebbe put tefillin on the bar mitzvah bochurim:
the bochur Yechiel Shalom Goldstein.
the bochur Chaim Hersh Schwartz.
During the Torah reading, the Rebbe went up for Hagbah.

After Shacharis, the Rebbe shlit"a went over to the home of his son-in-law, HaGaon Rabbi, Rav of the Beis Medrash, Berach Moshe shlit"a, where the Rebbe wished mazel tov on the birth of his granddaughter to the wife of Rabbi Yehoshua Mordechai Elazar Lavin shlit"a.

In the afternoon at around 4:00, the Rebbe shlit"a went over to the front of the Great Beis Medrash, where the Rebbe participated in the levaya of R' Mordechai Herskowitz a"h, who served as a rebbi in the Talmud Torah for many years.

At around 7:40 the Rebbe davened Mincha in his holy residence. During the Torah reading, the Rebbe was called up for shlishi and maftir. At the time of Rabbeinu Tam, around 8:15, the Rebbe davened Maariv.

The night of the second day of Yom Tov — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

At around 8:30 the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash for Maariv. The baal tefillah was HaRav R' Dovid Leib Kraus shlit"a. The davening ended at around 9:15. The Rebbe went up to the Aron Kodesh and wished the entire kahal a good Yom Tov.

At around 11:35 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the Shulchan Tahor seudah in the Heichal HaShulchanos, wearing a new kaftan for the bracha of Shehecheyanu. Lifting the cup (Hagbahas HaKos): HaRav HaChasid R' Eli Neustadt.
On the table the fruits had been prepared. The Rebbe made a bracha on a pomegranate and tasted from the fruits, and afterwards distributed shirayim from the pomegranate to the entire assembly.

During the zemiros, the Rebbe honored HaRav Shmuel Mendel Bab"d shlit"a (of Boro Park).

The Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the verse "Atem nitzavim hayom," explaining that when Rosh Hashana falls on Shabbos, 72 hours are counted, corresponding to the numerical value of "chesed," and with this power we merit chesed and mercy from Heaven on the Day of Judgment.

Birkas Hamazon: the Rebbe's grandson, the bochur Yisroel Doshinsky, son of HaGaon HaTzaddik, Rav of Beis Medrash Ohel Piga shlit"a. The seudah ended at around 12:45.

U'Nesaneh Tokef Kedushas HaYom

After chatzos the Rebbe went to the mikvah, and then returned home to his holy residence.

As he did the first day, so he did the second. On the morning of the second day of Yom Tov the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash at around 8:15.

Pesukei D'Zimra: HaRav HaTzaddik R' Berel Glanz shlit"a of Bardiov, Kiryas Joel. The Rebbe said "V'charos" verse by verse. Shacharis: HaRav HaChasid R' Berish Apfel. The davening ended at approximately 11:20.

After a short break the Rebbe shlit"a entered wearing the kittel and the silver kapel.
Hotzaah and Hachnasah (taking out and returning the Torah) were given as honors to HaRav HaGaon R' Chaim Yechezkel Wertzberger shlit"a and HaRav HaGaon R' Zalman Leib Friedman shlit"a, moreh tzedek. The verses of Shema Yisroel: HaRav HaTzaddik R' Yitzchak Tzvi Weiss shlit"a, Av Beis Din of Uhel, Boro Park.

The Rebbe shlit"a was the baal koreh, and read with great arousal and outpouring of the soul.

After the leining, the simchas habris of the newborn son of the Rebbe's grandson Rabbi Yeshua Mordechai Elazar Lebovits shlit"a, son-in-law of HaGaon HaTzaddik, Rav of Beis Medrash Beirach Moshe shlit"a, took place.
Sandek: the Rebbe shlit"a. Mohel: the Rebbe's brother, HaGaon HaTzaddik, Rav of Beis Medrash Beirach Moshe shlit"a. Standing sandek: the Gaon HaGadol, the Dumatz shlit"a. Blessings and naming: the Rebbe shlit"a. "V'yikarei shemo b'Yisroel": Naftali Tzvi, after the grandfather, the Zidichov Rebbe zt"l.
Another bris took place for the newborn son of R' Shlomo Elazar Neiman, where the Rebbe was sandek and mohel.

There was a pause. The Rebbe shlit"a went to the mikvah and then into his private room.
At around 1:20 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash wrapped in the tallis, kapel and kittel of the Divrei Yoel zt"l. The Rebbe went up to the Aron Kodesh, said a silent tefillah, and began the festive tekias shofar derasha with the verse "Ashrei ha'am yodei seruah." He explained that in order to be saved from the four kinds of atonement, one needs teshuva together with tefillah, but to reach the opening of the gates of the heart, it must be together with Torah, and thus one regains the tzelem Elokim on the face; "and in the light of the King's countenance is life." If we make a proper cheshbon hanefesh, we will merit good influences, "and Hashem will shine His face upon us." He concluded with abundant blessings. After the derasha the Rebbe said Kaddish D'Rabbanan. It ended at around 1:50.
A bris took place for the newborn son of R' Bentzion Lebovitch, where the Rebbe was sandek and mohel.

Afterwards the Rebbe shlit"a went up to the bimah. The sifrei Torah were held by HaRav HaChasid R' Aharon Spitzer and HaRav HaChasid R' Chaim Yaakov Gutman.
The Rebbe shlit"a began "Lamenatze'ach" and then recited "Min HaMeitzar," made the brachos over the fire of holiness and sounded the tekiah of the sitting (tekios d'meyushav). The baal makri was the Gaon HaGadol, the Dumatz shlit"a.

The Rebbe shlit"a approached the Musaf tefillah and said "Hineni He'ani Mimaas." Kaddish was at 2:35. The baal tokea at the tekios d'ma'amad was HaRav HaGaon R' Shlomo Zevel shlit"a, dumatz of Beis Medrash Beis Dov.
"Shlichei amcha Beis Yisroel ha'omdim levakesh tefillah v'sachanunim..." As on the first day, the tefillos were one piece of holy emotion, with weeping from time to time and a voice hewing flames of fire, which awakened the entire heichal of the beis medrash.

The Musaf pesichos were given as honors to HaRav HaChasid R' Avrohom Sholom Landau, HaRav HaChasid R' Mordechai Landau, HaRav HaChasid R' Yaakov Mittelman, HaRav HaChasid R' Avrohom Simcha Friedman, and HaRav HaChasid R' Bentzion Yeshua Kraus.

HaRav HaChasid R' Yisroel Aryeh Fischer and HaRav HaChasid R' Wolf Glick were honored with lifting the Rebbe at the kneeling (kor'im).
HaRav HaChasid R' Yitzchak Ehrenfeld approached for "Kavei," and the opening of the closing zemiros (Ane'im Zemiros) was given to HaRav HaChasid R' Avrohom Hersh Scheer. Musaf ended at around 5:30.

Immediately after Musaf, Mincha was davened. The one before the amud was HaRav Shmuel Eliezer Taub shlit"a (of Boro Park). The Rebbe davened with the tallis over his head. It ended at around 5:55.

In his holy residence the Yom Tov seudah and the seudas bris took place with the family members.

At around 7:45 the Rebbe shlit"a entered for the siyum of the Shulchan Tahor in the Beis Medrash HaGadol, where the niggunim of Rosh Hashana and the Yamim Noraim were sung.
Kugel and sweet carrots were brought in, and the Rebbe said "Lechaim."

During the zemiros the Rebbe gave out honors. Atah Nigleisa: the Rebbe's grandson, the baal bris, Rabbi Yeshua Lebovits. Yom L'Yabasha: HaRav Avrohom Aharon Lebovits shlit"a, son of the Zidichov Chardim Rebbe shlit"a.

The Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the verse "Tiku bachodesh shofar," explaining that, so to speak, the Holy One, Blessed is He, is obligated by the obligations of a husband to his wife, which are among the rabbinic obligations. Just as Klal Yisroel in a year like this one, when on the first day we do not blow and on the second day we do, both being takanos of Chazal, we merit good influences in material and spiritual matters. He concluded with abundant blessings in all matters.

The Rebbe shlit"a recited Birkas Hamazon over the cup, and honored with the "HaRachaman" his grandson Rabbi Yechezkel Taub shlit"a, son of HaGaon HaTzaddik, Rav of Beis Medrash Beirach Moshe shlit"a.

Maariv for Motzei Yom Tov: HaRav HaChasid R' Moshe Falkowitz. The Rebbe shlit"a made Havdalah, and when rising wished, "A good week, a good blessed year," and extended special thanks to the choir. It ended at around 9:00.

On Motzei Yom Tov in his holy residence, the Rebbe sat for a longer time and arranged his various tzedakos and the large sums being sent to talmidei chachomim and needy, worthy poor among the local anash and in Eretz Yisroel during these Aseres Yemei Teshuva.

May it be His will that we have accomplished all good, to be remembered for salvation and mercy, a good and blessed year for us and for all Yisroel.

"A Day of Teruah Shall It Be for You" — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

After Alos, the Rebbe went to the mikvah and then returned home to his holy dwelling.

On the first day of Yom Tov, Shabbos Kodesh, in the morning at the time of putting on the tallis, the tallis of the holy Rebbe, the Divrei Yoel zy"a, which the Rebbe wears at Mussaf, was lying on the table.

At around 8:10 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the Great Beis Medrash.
The Rebbe shlit"a davened his holy Shacharis tefillos alone before his Creator, with a broken and burning heart, pleading for mercy like a poor man at the door, with awesome weeping that was heard throughout the entire beis medrash, particularly at 'Shir HaMaalos Mima'amakim' and at the piyut 'Yarasi B'fotzi,' which shook the hearts of the thousands of mispallelim.

Pesukei D'zimra: HaGaon R' Dovid Perl shlit"a. Kerios, the Rebbe said verse by verse. Shacharis: the Gaon HaGadol, the Av Beis Din shlit"a. Shacharis ended at around 11:15.

After a short break the Rebbe shlit"a entered wearing the kittel and silver kappel. Hotzaah and Hachnasah (taking out and returning the Torah) honors were given to HaGaon R' Yosef Hersh Sofer shlit"a, a moreh tzedek, and HaGaon R' Yoel Meisels shlit"a, son of the Gaon Av Beis Din of Montreal shlit"a. Pesukei Shema Yisroel: R' Eli Gross shlit"a of Boro Park.

The Rebbe shlit"a was the baal koreh, and read in the voice of a child, with tears and great arousal.

There was a pause. The Rebbe shlit"a went to the mikvah and then into his private room.

At around 1:10 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash wrapped in the tallis, kappel and kittel of the holy Rebbe, the Divrei Yoel zy"a, and beneath the kittel a white kaftan.
The Rebbe shlit"a went up to the aron kodesh, said a silent prayer, and began the festive derasha on the verse "And in the seventh month, on the first of the month, a Shabbason, a remembrance of teruah." He explained that the purpose of the blowing of the shofar is to arouse to teshuva, but on Shabbos, when everyone merits an arousal to teshuva from the bas kol that goes out every day, one can therefore come to teshuva even without the blowing of the shofar. In words of rebuke he continued to arouse to teshuva: on Rosh Hashana we do not mention sins with the mouth, but in thought one may and must make a cheshbon hanefesh about where one stands. He awakened mercy with strong weeping over alarming reports about children of fine homes who, sadly, have been lost to the Jewish path. No one is guaranteed! Now is the time to tear open abundant heavenly mercy. May Hashem Yisbarach pour out a spirit of purity from on high, "and the children shall return to their borders." He concluded with many blessings. It ended at around 1:35. After the derasha the Rebbe said Kaddish D'rabbanan.

The Rebbe shlit"a approached the amud for Tefillas Mussaf, said "Hineni He'ani M'maas," and began Kaddish at around 1:40.

The Rebbe shlit"a davened from a machzor of the Nusach Tefillah Yesharah.

Approaching the aron kodesh with awe, with Your people surrounding it like a wall, joining in the holy service with awe and reverence, with arousal and holy emotion at Tefillas Mussaf, especially at the pesukim of Malchiyos, Zichronos and Shofaros, with a thundering voice and a heart poured out like water, "the eyes of Your people are lifted to You and eyes long for You"

The pesichos at Mussaf were given as honors to R' Yehoshua Wertzberger, R' Berel Palatchek, R' Moshe Goldstein, and R' Moshe Ari Freund.

R' Chaim Eli Zwiebel and R' Wolf Glick were honored with lifting the Rebbe at Korim.
R' Yitzchak Ehrenfeld approached for Kavei. Pesicha for Ane'im Zemiros: R' Yudel Basol (Williamsburg). It ended at around 4:50.

For Mincha and Shalosh Seudos the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash at around 7:05. Mincha: R' Aharon Spitzer. Hotzaah and Hachnasah: R' Avrohom Yitzchak Landau. Kohen: R' Eli Shaul Katz (Boro Park). Levi: R' Nechemya Shlomo Wertzberger (Monsey). Shlishi: the Rebbe's grandson Rabbi Dovid Teitelbaum shlit"a. Hagbah: the Rebbe shlit"a. Gelilah: Rabbi Avrohom Dovid Wagshal shlit"a (Monsey).

At Lechayim the Rebbe wished a good, blessed year, that everyone should have all their good requests fulfilled.
The Rebbe shlit"a gave out the honors for the zemiros. Odeh: Rabbi Naftali Tzvi Brody shlit"a (Bnei Brak). Shir HaMaalos: R' Moshe Goldstein.

The Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the text of the tefilla "Od Yizkor Lanu Ahavas Eisan," explaining that the merit of the holy Avos, Avrohom, Yitzchak and Yaakov, is joined by Hakadosh Baruch Hu for the Jewish children, bringing the future good.

After the singing, the Rebbe shlit"a told the story in the name of R' Aharon T"B z"l of Uhel: when his grandfather, the holy R' Shmuel Garlitzer zy"a, sang the niggun before the holy Yismach Moshe zy"a, the Yismach Moshe said it is a good niggun, and he should set it aside for the holy days. The Rebbe made a bracha on the cup, and went into his private room.

'Tichal Shana U'virchoseha'

Yom Tov Rosh Hashana 5784, B'tzeil HaKodesh with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a, in the midst of the holy community of Kiryas Joel.

On Friday, Erev Yom Tov, at around 5:15 in the morning, the Rebbe shlit"a entered the Great Beis Medrash for the recital of Selichos, 'Zechor Bris.'
The Rebbe shlit"a descended before the amud with great arousal, wrapped in the tallis and the kapel of the Rebbe, the holy Baal Divrei Yoel zy"a.
The honors of the Pesichos were given to R' Akiva Weinstock and R' Asher Weider (Montreal). They concluded at around 7:35, and the Rebbe went home to his holy residence.

Before Shacharis, a bris took place for the newborn son of R' Yoel Weider, at which the Rebbe served as sandek and mohel.

At around 10:00, the Rebbe shlit"a entered the Great Beis Medrash for Shacharis. The baal tefillah was R' Hersh Leib Fogel.
The Rebbe recited the verses (Zechoros) verse by verse, and after davening, Tehillim was completed as is customary during the month of Elul.
After removing his tefillin, the Rebbe shlit"a performed Hatoras Nedarim before a minyan and recited the Moseras Modaos, thanked them, and wished them a good kesiva v'chasima.

Afterwards, a bris took place for the newborn son of R' Mordechai Parkash, at which the Rebbe served as sandek and mohel.

On the night of Yom Tov, at around 7:40, the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash wrapped in his tallis and approached Mincha with great arousal, after which the piyut 'Achos Ketana' was recited as customary.
After Mincha, the annual appeal for 'Mivtzar HaKollelim' took place, with the director of the kollelim, HaGaon Rabbi Wolf Aharon Teller shlit"a, speaking.
At around 8:30, the Rebbe shlit"a approached Kabbalas Shabbos and Maariv. At Lecha Dodi the singers sang the new melodies, and after davening the Rebbe recited, as is customary, Mizmor L'Dovid with fiery intensity.

After davening, the Rebbe shlit"a went up to the Aron Kodesh for the 'Birchas HaKodesh' and delivered a Torah thought on the verse 'Yisa verachah me'es Hashem,' prefaced by the Yetev Lev zy"a: that by thanking Hashem for the future, Hashem joins the good of the future; similarly, by rejoicing in Hashem's kindness in the future, a person's merits and good deeds of the future are joined together. Therefore, we indeed have something to rejoice about now. May Hashem help that this year 5784 be a well-blessed year, and he wished it for the entire congregation present in the beis medrash and for all of Klal Yisroel in all their dwelling places: 'Leshana tova tikasevu vsichasemu l'alter l'chaim tovim ul'shalom,' a good and blessed year, and he concluded with abundant blessings. "And all the people answered in a loud voice 'Amen,'" and in response "they said Baruch," the thousands of Yidden wished the Rebbe a leshana tova in return, and he too answered Amen to those who blessed, and then wished 'a good Shabbos, a good Yom Tov.'
After descending, the Rebbe shlit"a gave a special leshana tova wish to the HaGaon HaGadol, the Av Beis Din shlit"a, and then the Rebbe went home to his holy residence.

At around 11:35, the Rebbe shlit"a entered the Shabbos seudah in the Heichal HaShulchanos and began, as is his way, with Shalom Aleichem, with emotion and sweetness, through Modeh Ani.
Eishes Chayil and raising the cup: the Rebbe's grandson, Rabbi Dovid, son of the HaGaon HaTzaddik, Av Beis Din of Sighet shlit"a.
After Kiddush, the Rebbe shlit"a cut the challah with a new knife and dipped the hamotzi in honey, devash chai, and then made the Borei Pri HaEitz on apples, dipped them in honey and recited the yehi ratzon "that a good and sweet year be renewed upon us," and distributed shirayim of the apple to the entire congregation.
Afterwards a sheep's head was brought in, and the Rebbe recited the yehi ratzon "that we be the head and not the tail." After tasting it, the Rebbe drank l'chaim and wished 'L'chaim, a well-blessed year.' After the meat, sweet carrots were brought in.

The Rebbe shlit"a honored R' Moshe Aryeh Freund (London) with the zemiros and Mizmor L'Dovid.

The Rebbe shlit"a delivered a Torah thought on the verse 'Yisa verachah me'es Hashem' and explained that through Shabbos one becomes attached to Hashem, one can come to teshuva, and one merits blessings from Hashem.

Birkas Hamazon: the Rebbe's grandson, the baal simcha, Rabbi Yehoshua Lavin shlit"a, son-in-law of the HaGaon HaTzaddik, Rav of the beis medrash Barach Moshe shlit"a.

After the fruit, kugels and beer were brought in in honor of the Shalom Zachor of the Rebbe's grandson, Rabbi Yehoshua Lavin shlit"a. Songs of simcha were sung, and the Rebbe gave his holy blessings.
A Shalom Zachor also took place at R' Avrohom Masri.

As for the bris on the eighth day: Rabbi Mendel Gross (Boro Park). They concluded at 1:10.
