The night of the 2nd day of Chol HaMoed, Ushpiza of Moshe Raya Mehemna — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

The Satmar Rebbe shlit"a entered the Simchas Beis HaShoeivah celebration in the Sukkah HaGedolah at around 10:30.
After the recital of the order of the Ushpizin, the Rebbe shlit"a washed for the Yom Tov seudah.

The ushpiza hosts placed wine as is customary. After the Yom Tov foods, several special kugels and delicacies in honor of Yom Tov were served from a number of the ushpiza hosts; the Rebbe tasted them and distributed shirayim.

With Shir HaMaalos, the Rebbe honored:
HaGaon HaTzaddik, the av beis din of Monsey shlit"a.
HaGaon HaTzaddik R' Naftali Hirtzka Zwebel shlit"a, rosh hakahal of Williamsburg.
HaGaon HaTzaddik R' Simcha Sholom Steinberger shlit"a, rav of Beis Medrash Divrei Chaim.

The Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the verse "Mi u'mi hahol'chim... bin'areinu u'viz'keineinu neilech ki chag Hashem lanu" (Who and who are those who go... with our youth and our elders we will go, for it is a festival of Hashem for us), explaining that through the waving of the Four Species, one can merit teshuva even if it is not in the same place. He concluded with abundant blessings that the "moliech u'meivi" (waving back and forth) should bring all good blessings to us, so that we should not need to seek parnassah in faraway places.

Birkas HaMazon: a grandson of the Rebbe, HaRav HaGaon R' Chaim Hersh Ashkenazi shlit"a, rav of Beis Medrash Rav Tuv. After bentching, there was dancing in honor of Simchas Beis HaShoeivah. It ended at around 12:00.

Monday, Chol HaMoed (the 1st day) — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

The Satmar Rebbe shlit"a entered the Beis Medrash HaGadol for Shacharis at around 9:45. The baal tefillah was HaRav HaChasid R' Yuda Eliezer Gottesman.

The Rebbe shlit"a proceeded to Hallel and performed his holy service during the waving of the lulav with great fervor and arousal, and afterwards recited the Hoshanos. The honor of Pesicha was given to HaRav HaChasid R' Avrohom Dovid Gottlieb (of Williamsburg).

In the afternoon at around 6:30, the Rebbe shlit"a arrived at the Beis Medrash HaGadol for Mincha, followed by the Shabbos Shuva derasha in the presence of thousands of residents of the city.
The baal tefillah was R' Yaakov Yosef Philipp.

After Mincha, at 6:45, the Rebbe shlit"a ascended the Aron Kodesh and began the derasha. He first expressed praise and thanks to Hashem that, despite the expected rain on the first night of Sukkos, Baruch Hashem it did not rain, and it was possible to fulfill the mitzvah of sukkah in full, both eating and sleeping. The fear and worry of Klal Yisroel turned into the joy of Yom Tov, and we thank and praise Hashem for being able to fulfill the mitzvah of dwelling in the sukkah. The Rebbe then delivered a lengthy pilpul on the topic of "matana al menas l'hachzir" and continued with various approaches in drush and aggadah, tying them to Yom Tov of Sukkos.
He strengthened the audience that one must fulfill mitzvos with the joy of a mitzvah and explain this to the children, and spoke words of mussar regarding matters of tznius, setting times for Torah study, davening with the tzibbur from beginning to end, matters of technology, not eating everything and everywhere, and not to be lenient even in the slightest, even when one is not at home. He concluded with abundant blessings. After the derasha the Rebbe recited Kaddish. The event ended at around 7:50. Afterwards, the Rebbe davened Maariv in the heichal of the beis medrash.

Motzei Yom Tov, the night of the first day of Chol HaMoed — Ushpizin of Yaakov — "B'tzeil HaKodesh" with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

The Rebbe shlit"a entered the Yom Tov seudah and Simchas Beis HaShoeivah in the large sukkah adjoining the main beis medrash at around 11:30.
After reciting the order of the Ushpizin, the Rebbe shlit"a washed for the Yom Tov seudah.

The ba'alei ushpizin set out wine as is customary. After the Yom Tov foods, several special kugels and delicacies in honor of Yom Tov were served from a number of the ba'alei ushpizin; the Rebbe tasted them and distributed shirayim.

The Rebbe honored the following with Shir HaMaalos:
HaGaon R' Zalman Leib Rubin shlit"a, the Dinov Rebbe of Monsey.
HaGaon R' Kalman Halberstam shlit"a, Av Beis Din of Sanz in Kiryas Joel.
HaRav R' Yitzchak Asher Yeshaya Leifer shlit"a of the Nadvorna chassidus in Kiryas Joel.

The Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the verse "Yaakov left Be'er Sheva and went to Charan," and explained that through the tefillos of the earlier tzaddikim, Klal Yisroel is helped until the present times, "he gives, returns, and gives again"; when one makes the shaking motions with the four species, even if he is a simple Jew, he does so for all good things in the merit of the holy service of the earlier tzaddikim.

Birkas Hamazon: the Rebbe's grandson HaRav Chaim Yaakov Rokeach shlit"a, son-in-law of the Chadash Ben Noach, HaGaon, Rav of the Yismach Moshe beis medrash shlit"a. After bentching, there was dancing in honor of Simchas Beis HaShoeivah; it concluded at around 1:00.

The night of the second day of Yom Tov, 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

At about 8:20 the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash for Maariv. HaGaon Rabbi Chaim Elisha Grossman shlit"a davened before the amud. After davening the crowd went over to wish a good Yom Tov, and the Rebbe went home to his holy residence.

At about 11:25 the Rebbe shlit"a came to the first "Ushpizin of Yitzchak" in the large sukkah adjacent to the main beis medrash and recited the Ushpizin service.
Raising the cup for Kiddush: HaRav HaTzaddik R' Berel Glanz shlit"a of Bardiov, Kiryas Joel.

From the sweet fruits the Rebbe shlit"a distributed shirayim to the hosts of the Ushpizin.
The hosts of the Ushpizin set out wine and brought delicacies in honor of Yom Tov. The Rebbe shlit"a tasted and distributed shirayim.

The Rebbe shlit"a honored HaGaon Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Borzesky shlit"a with singing the piyut.

The Rebbe shlit"a said a Torah thought on the verse "And may G-d give you of the dew of the heavens," and explained that our forefather Yitzchak brought in the power of joy in performing a mitzvah, and through this even the account of the time of the sin is atoned for.

For Birkas Hamazon the Rebbe honored his grandson, the bochur Yitzchak, son of the HaGaon HaTzaddik, Rav of the Beis Baruch beis medrash, shlit"a.

After bentching the new Hakafos tune was sung, and the Rebbe encouraged the crowd in honor of Simchas Beis HaShoeivah.

Before leaving, the Rebbe shlit"a said a few words, that one must give praise and thanks to Hashem that we were able to sit and eat in the sukkah and even sleep. There had been fear before Yom Tov, and even on Erev Yom Tov people sat over the halachos, but Baruch Hashem we had a true Yom Tov simcha. May Hashem help that we always have simchas. The Rebbe shlit"a was accompanied out with songs of thanksgiving. It concluded at about 1:00.

The second day of Yom Tov

In the morning, after the mikvah, the Rebbe shlit"a fulfilled with awe and love the mitzvah of the four minim in the sukkah in his holy residence, and he also set aside an additional set of four minim for the visiting bochurim from abroad.

At about 9:55 the Rebbe shlit"a came in to daven. Pesukei D'zimra: R' Avrohom Moshe Falkowitz. Then the Rebbe recited verse by verse, proceeded to Shacharis and Hallel, and davened with outpouring of the soul, and prolonged the holy service of the shaking of the lulav with devotion and holy emotion. After Hallel the Rebbe shlit"a recited the Hoshanos with great arousal and circled the bimah in the beis medrash.

Hotzaah and Hachnasah (taking out and returning the Torah) were honored to: HaGaon Rabbi Moshe Teitelbaum shlit"a, dayan of the Beis Shmuel Binyamin beis medrash, and the Rebbe's grandson HaGaon Rabbi Zalman Teitelbaum shlit"a, Rav of the Beis Menachem Zev beis medrash. At the afternoon meal in his holy residence, the Rebbe shlit"a honored with Birkas Hamazon: the Rebbe's son-in-law, the HaGaon HaTzaddik, Rav of the Ohel Feiga beis medrash, shlit"a.

In the afternoon at about 7:10 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash for Mincha. HaGaon Rabbi Itamar Meisels shlit"a davened before the amud. At the time of Rabbeinu Tam, Maariv was held. R' Akiva Weinstock davened before the amud.

After Maariv the Rebbe shlit"a went into the large sukkah and made Havdalah. Afterwards the crowd went over to wish a good moed. It concluded at about 8:20.

Shabbos, the First Day of Yom Tov — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

At around 10:00 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash to daven. Pesukei D'zimra: HaRav R' Shalom Meir Eckstein. The Rebbe shlit"a approached Shacharis and Hallel with great outpouring of the soul. After Hallel, the Rebbe recited the order of Hoshanos for Shabbos, verse by verse.

Opening the Aron: R' Yehoshua Nachman Schreiber (London). Hotzaah and Hachnasah (taking out and returning the Torah) were given as honors to: HaGaon R' Dovid Hirsch shlit"a, a moreh tzedek in our kehilla in Williamsburg, and HaGaon R' Yoel Stein shlit"a, a moreh tzedek in our kehilla and member of the Beis Din of the Union of Chareidi Kehillos in London.

The Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the Midrash "You said, 'Rest beneath the tree'; I swear that I will repay your children with the mitzvah of sukkah," and explained that Avrohom Avinu brought down all the souls of the future converts, and the soul of Rabbi Akiva, according to whose view there are pure waters in which to purify oneself and be able to enter the sukkah.

Third Seudah

The Rebbe shlit"a entered for Mincha and Shalosh Seudos at around 6:45. Mincha: HaRav R' Yitzchak Feuerstein shlit"a. Hotzaah and Hachnasah: R' Mordechai Scher (London). Kohen: R' Yitzchak Friedman. Levi: R' Yehoshua Wertzberger. Shlishi: HaGaon R' Meir Hersh Grunbaum shlit"a. Hagbah: the Rebbe shlit"a. Gelilah: R' Avrohom Yaakov Fried (Williamsburg).
The Rebbe shlit"a went over to the sukkah hagedolah for Shalosh Seudos.
The Torah was on the Midrash "You said, 'Rest beneath the tree'; I swear that I will repay your children with the mitzvah of sukkah," and he explained that Avrohom Avinu made converts, and through them all later converts came about, among them the soul of Rabbi Meir, whose view is that Jews are children of Hashem, and teshuva helps, and in this way one can enter the holy sukkah.

The Rebbe recited the blessing over the cup. They finished at around 8:15.

The First Days of Yom Tov Sukkos, Z'man Simchaseinu — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

On Erev Yom Tov in the afternoon, the Rebbe shlit"a bound the lulav and recited the customary yehi ratzon.

In the evening at around 7:20, the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash and went up to daven Mincha. Maariv was led by R' Shalom Yitzchak Scher. Davening concluded at around 8:30. After davening, the Rebbe shlit"a went up to the Aron Kodesh and wished the entire congregation a good Shabbos and a good Yom Tov, saying, 'May Hashem help that we should be able to fulfill the mitzvah of sukkah properly.' The Rebbe then went home to his holy residence.

Upon arriving at his holy residence, the lock on the Rebbe's sukkah was opened, and the Rebbe immediately entered for the first 'Ushpizin of Avrohom,' and began, as is his custom, Shalom Aleichem with emotion and sweetness, through Modeh Ani.
Eishes Chayil: the Rebbe's grandson, the chosson Meir Eliezer, may he be well, son of HaGaon Rabbi Baruch Moshe shlit"a, Rav of the beis medrash.
After the zemiros, the Rebbe recited the Seder HaUshpizin and the prayer for the first night, and sat down to eat with deliberate, word-by-word care, as is his custom.

After the fish, the Rebbe shlit"a expressed with holy emotion, 'There are no words to thank the Holy Creator that we can sit and eat in the sukkah.'
The Rebbe honored others to sing the Shabbos zemiros.

The Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the verse 'V'hisha'anu tachas ha'etz,' explaining that Avrohom Avinu shone a power into the world by bringing converts, which lasts until today. Similarly, when one sits in the sukkah, even though it is only for 7 days, it shines into the entire year.

The hosts of the Ushpizin brought delicacies in honor of Yom Tov. The Rebbe shlit"a tasted them and distributed shirayim.
Birkas Hamazon: R' Avrohom Moshe Falkovitch.

This week the Rebbe shlit"a told stories of the holy Maggid of Kozhnitz zy"a, whose yahrzeit was on Erev Sukkos.

They sang Kah Ribon Olam, and the Rebbe distributed from the fruits to the hosts of the Ushpizin. They continued with niggunim in honor of Yom Tov. On the seventh day: R' Eliezer Dovid HaKohen Gluck. The seudah concluded at around 11:15.
