Thursday, Berachah 1, Shlosh Esrei Middos — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

The Satmar Rebbe shlit"a entered the Beis Medrash HaGadol for the recital of Selichos at 5:45. The baal tefillah was HaGaon Rabbi Chaim Yosef Wertzberger shlit"a, Av Beis Din of Hunyad. They finished at around 6:45, and the Rebbe returned to his holy home.

At around 9:25 the Rebbe entered the Beis Medrash HaGadol for Shacharis. Before davening, the Rebbe put tefillin on the bar mitzvah bochur, the bochur Yoel, son of R' Aharon Heilbrunn.
Afterwards the Rebbe lit 5 candles in honor of the yahrzeit of his grandfather, the Hagaon Hakadosh Rabbi Elazar Nissan zy"a. During the Torah reading the Rebbe went up for hagbah. After the reading, many guests from Eretz Yisroel and Europe, who had come to spend the month of Tishrei b'tzeil hakodesh, bentched gomel. After davening the Rebbe put on Rabbeinu Tam tefillin in his private room.

At around 11:05 the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a returned to the beis medrash for the recital of the entire Sefer Tehillim. The baal tefillah was R' Yehoshua Teller. They finished at around 1:15.
After Tehillim the Rebbe recited the Viduy HaGadol of Rabbeinu Nissim with intense weeping for an extended time. Afterwards the korbanos were read, with the Av Beis Din of Hunyad shlit"a as the baal koreh. They finished at around 2:10.

Afterwards the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a went over to the lake on Kiryas Joel's Quickway Road for the recital of Tashlich together with a large crowd, and recited the order of Tashlich with outpouring of the soul. They finished at around 2:25.

The Satmar Rebbe shlit"a davened Mincha at around 6:50 in his holy home on Ohel Court. The Rebbe lit 5 candles and said Kaddish in honor of the hilula kadisha.
Afterwards there were times for entry at the Rebbe's holy home for kvitlach.

The Rebbe davened Maariv at around 9:00.

Wednesday, Parshas Berachah (Part 1) — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

At around 5:45 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the Beis Medrash HaGadol for the recital of Selichos. The baal tefillah was R' Yehoshua Shmuel Weider. It concluded at around 6:35, and the Rebbe returned to his holy home.

Before Shacharis, a bris was held for the newborn son of R' Moshe, son of R' Yoel Kaufman, at which the Rebbe served as sandek and mohel.

The Rebbe davened Shacharis in the Beis Medrash HaGadol. Before davening, the Rebbe put tefillin on the bar mitzvah bochurim:
the bochur Yosef Binyomin Weider.
the bochur Eliyahu Powell.
the bochur Yehuda Heiman.

After davening, a lechayim was held with the bar mitzvah bochurim in the heichal of the beis medrash. A fine conversation ensued about the resting place of his grandfather, the Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Elazar Nissan zy"a, whose yahrzeit falls on Shlosh Esrei Middos, and the Rebbe recounted for a longer time memories from several trips to Europe forty years ago.

In the afternoon hours, at around 4:30, the Superintendent of the New York State Police Department came to the Rebbe's holy home together with other high-ranking police officers, after holding an extended visit in Kiryas Joel, where they toured the town accompanied by the Kehilla's administration: R' Avrohom Weider, R' Gedalya Segedin, and R' Moshe Leib Weitreil. This was part of a step to increase security in the Jewish neighborhoods due to the rise in antisemitic incidents across the country. They came to the Rebbe shlit"a to receive his holy blessing. R' Gedalya introduced them to the Rebbe, and a conversation ensued in which they expressed their admiration for the city of Kiryas Joel and highly praised the low crime rate in Kiryas Joel. The Rebbe bestowed his holy blessing.

Entry times for kvitlach were from 6:15 until 12:00 at night, at the Rebbe's holy home on Ohel Court.

The Rebbe davened Mincha at around 7:00 and Maariv at around 10:30. Before Maariv, the Rebbe lit 5 candles and said Kaddish after Maariv in honor of the holy hilula of his grandfather, the Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Elazar Nissan zy"a. After Maariv, the Rebbe continued to receive the public.

Tuesday, Brachah Alef — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

At 5:45 the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a entered the Large Beis Medrash for the recital of Selichos. Baal tefillah: HaRav Chaim Hersh Mendlowitz shlit"a. They finished at around 6:30, and the Rebbe went home to his holy residence.

At around 9:45 the Rebbe arrived at the Large Beis Medrash for Shacharis. Before davening, the Rebbe put tefillin on the bar mitzvah bochurim.

In the afternoon hours the Rebbe traveled to Williamsburg for the weekly reception hours.

On the way, the Rebbe stopped in Englewood, New Jersey to console the mourners of the family of R' Yukel Gross a"h. A conversation developed about the great elders of the Valova court, and the Rebbe wished them the blessing of consolation.

Reception hours in the Rebbe's residence were from 5:30 until 11:30 at night, at his holy home on Hewes Street.

During the reception hours, a siyum of the writing of the letters took place for the Sefer Torah being written by R' Yaakov Hersh Heiman, which will be brought into Beis Medrash Lev Aharon in Williamsburg this coming Thursday, Parshas Noach. The Rebbe wrote in the letters, drank a lechayim, and bestowed his holy blessings.

At around 7:15 the Rebbe davened Mincha in his holy home.

HaRav HaTzaddik R' Menashe Katz shlit"a, Av Beis Din of Frimen in Williamsburg, came in to give and receive blessings for a good year, and the Rebbe bestowed his holy blessings upon him.

The Rebbe davened Maariv at around 10:30, and afterwards continued receiving the public.

Sunday, first blessing of Tzom Gedalia, 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

At 5:45 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the great beis medrash for the recitation of Selichos. Baal tefillah: R' Shlomo Zalman Stein. The davening ended around 6:35, and the Rebbe went home to his holy residence.

Around 9:45 the Rebbe arrived at the great beis medrash for Shacharis. Before davening, the Rebbe put tefillin on the bar mitzvah bochurim:

After Mincha the Rebbe went up to the Aron Kodesh for the Shabbos Shuvah derasha, in the presence of thousands of chassidim who filled the entire great beis medrash with all its wings, and who merited an hour of nachas ruach listening to the holy Shabbos Shuvah derasha.
The Rebbe prayed a silent prayer and began the derasha on the verse "Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak; and let the earth hear the words of my mouth," with a lengthy discourse of Torah analysis and homiletics of over an hour on the topic of "mitzvos were not given for enjoyment." He then continued with words of mussar and chizuk about learning Torah, setting fixed times for Torah, matters of prayer and tznius, and the power of holiness of the city of Kiryas Joel, which is growing in every direction. He highlighted the success of the takanos regarding the apartments in Kiryas Joel for only three hundred dollars per square foot, and asked the entire community to hold to this and not buy for more. He also spoke about the difficult wartime situation in Eretz Yisroel, that we must daven for our brothers, and be careful not to, chalilah, praise the wicked or fall into any kind of idolatrous admiration; not to be so glued to the news about the elections in America; and to daven about the decrees against chinuch in New York.
He then spoke about preparing for Yom Kippur by learning the Mishnayos of Maseches Yoma, and especially the Rosh at the end of Maseches Yoma, where he records in brief the Seder HaAvodah. Although mitzvos were not given for enjoyment, enjoyment is not forbidden, and one may derive pleasure, and there is nothing more delightful than preparing for a mitzvah with all its detailed halachos. He wished that everyone merit a complete teshuva, and concluded with many blessings.

The derasha ended at 7:35. A few minutes later, at the time of Rabbeinu Tam, the Rebbe davened Maariv in the heichal of the beis medrash. Baal tefillah: the son-in-law of the HaGaon, Rav of the Yismach Moshe beis medrash shlit"a.

Leil Shabbos, Parshas Haazinu — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

On Friday night at around 7:05 the Rebbe entered the beis medrash wrapped in his tallis. Baal tefillah: HaGaon R' Dovid Perl shlit"a; Kabbalas Shabbos: R' Shlomo Hersh son of R' Moshe Eckstein. At Lecha Dodi the choir sang the new melodies, and davening ended at around 8:30. After the congregation went over to wish a gut Shabbos, the Rebbe went home to his holy residence.

At around 11:00 the Rebbe entered the Shulchan HaTahor in the Heichal HaShulchanos, and began, as is his custom, with Shalom Aleichem with feeling and sweetness. They sang Ribbon HaOlamim through Melech Tamim Darko.
Eishes Chayil: the Rebbe's grandson Rabbi Dovid Teitelbaum shlit"a.

The Rebbe shlit"a honored people with the zemiros. Kol Mekadesh: his grandson Rabbi Lipa Teitelbaum shlit"a, son of the Rebbe's brother, HaGaon HaTzaddik, rav of the Beirach Moshe beis medrash, shlit"a. Menucha V'Simcha: R' Aharon Hersh Mittelman.

The Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the verse "Ki Shem Hashem Ekra," explained in the manner of derush on the topic of a mitzvah performed through an aveira.

At Seudah Shlishis the Rebbe honored people with the zemiros. Odeh and Shir HaMaalos: R' Shlomo Hersh Eckstein, and the choir sang the new melodies. Afterwards the Neilas Yemei Rosh Hashana took place. They sang the Rosh Hashana and Yamim Noraim melodies for an extended time, and the Rebbe made a bracha over the cup.

After bentching the Rebbe delivered divrei Torah over a microphone and expounded on the verse "Ashrei HaAm Yodei Seruah," explaining that when there are three days of Yom Tov, 72 hours, "chesed" is drawn down for Klal Yisroel, which is greater than rachamim, and even forgotten aveiros are atoned for, and one is helped even in what one did not ask for, for good life and peace. "V'Hashem Terem Yikra'u V'Ani E'eneh" has the gematria of Tashpa"h. With Hashem's help, a good year of chesed and rachamim is coming for all of Klal Yisroel, and the Holy One, Blessed Be He, will bestow all good even for the things that were not asked for. He concluded with abundant brachos for the entire congregation.

Maariv of Motzei Shabbos: R' Yisroel Perl. After Havdalah the Rebbe wished the entire congregation together "a gutte voch and a gut yohr." They concluded at around 9:20.

May it be Hashem's will that our prayers be accepted with mercy and favor, a good and blessed year for us and for all Yisroel.

Night of the Second Day of Rosh Hashana, 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

At around 7:50 the Rebbe entered the beis medrash for Maariv. The baal tefillah was HaRav R' Dovid Chananya Weiss shlit"a. They finished at around 8:30. The Rebbe went up to the Aron Kodesh and wished the entire congregation "a good Yom Tov, a good and blessed year," and then went home to his holy residence.

Before the tish, the Rebbe lit the Yom Tov candles in his holy residence, and afterwards at around 11:10 went over to the holy table in the Heichal HaShulchanos, where the Rebbe lit the remaining candles.
Lifting of the cup: the Rebbe's grandson HaRav Dovid Teitelbaum shlit"a. The Rebbe put on a new kaftan for Shehecheyanu, and on the table there was a Shehecheyanu fruit. The Rebbe made a blessing on a date and tasted from the Shehecheyanu fruits, and afterwards distributed shirayim from the delicacies to the entire assembly.

For the zemiros, the Rebbe honored HaRav R' Yitzchak Shalom Friedman shlit"a, a moreh tzedek.

The Rebbe shlit"a said a Torah thought on the verse "He shall receive a blessing from Hashem," and explained that the shofar alludes to the Name Havaya and brings wealth, so that the test of wealth does not harm.

Birkas Hamazon: R' Aharon Hersh Berkowitz. They finished at around 12:20.

U'Nesaneh Tokef – the Sanctity of the Day

On the morning of the second day of Yom Tov the Rebbe entered at around 7:55.

As he did the first day, the Rebbe performed the holy service: the Rebbe recited the blessings aloud, and the baal tefillah began singing Adon Olam. Pesukei D'zimra: HaRav HaTzaddik R' Yitzchak Tzvi Weiss shlit"a, av beis din of Uhel, Boro Park. Shacharis: R' Berish Apfel.

After a short break the Rebbe entered wearing the kittel, silver kapel, and white-striped bekeshe.
The taking out and returning of the Torah were honored to the Rebbe's grandsons HaRav Dovid Teitelbaum shlit"a and HaRav Yisroel Dushinsky shlit"a.
The verses of Shema Yisroel: HaGaon R' Yoel Meisels shlit"a, son of the Av Beis Din of Montreal shlit"a.
The Rebbe shlit"a was the baal koreh, and read with great arousal and outpouring of the soul.

At around 12:35 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash wrapped in the tallis, kapel, and kittel of the Divrei Yoel zy"a. The Rebbe went up to the Aron Kodesh, davened a silent prayer, and began the festive derasha on the verse "Blow the shofar at the new moon." He explained that the shofar is blown three times during the tekios — the sitting tekios, the silent Shemoneh Esrei, and the loud Shemoneh Esrei — to plead that we ourselves be upright and have upright children and grandchildren. He wept at length with awesome crying, "May we merit to see children and grandchildren engaged in Torah and mitzvos." Everyone should tear himself open during the prayers and the blowing of the shofar, that the children and grandchildren not be lost in the difficult trials of the present generation. He concluded with abundant blessings for the entire congregation.
After the derasha the Rebbe recited Kaddish D'Rabbanan. They finished at around 12:55.
Afterwards the Rebbe went up to the bimah. The sifrei Torah were held by R' Chaim Palacsek and R' Aharon Spitzer. The Rebbe recited "Min HaMeitzar," put on a new tallis for the blessing, made the blessings, and blew the sitting tekios with fire of holiness. The baal makri was the Gaon Hagadol, the Av Beis Din shlit"a.

The Rebbe shlit"a approached the Mussaf prayer and said "Hineni He'ani MiMaas." Kaddish was at 1:25. The baal tokea for the standing tekios was HaGaon R' Shlomo Zevel shlit"a, dayan of Beis Medrash Beis Dov.
"Shluchei amcha Beis Yisroel…" As the first day, the prayers were one piece of holy emotion, with weeping from time to time and a voice hewing flames of fire, which stirred the entire heichal of the beis medrash.

Those honored with the openings of the Aron at Mussaf: R' Avrohom Shalom Landau, R' Gershon Mendel Neiman, R' Shlomo Heiman, R' Naftali Lichtenstein.

R' Wolf Glick and R' Bentzion Klein were honored with lifting the Rebbe at the Kneeling.

R' Yitzchak Ehrenfeld approached for Kuvah. The opening of Ane'im Zemiros: R' Mendel Meir HaKohen Glick (Williamsburg). They finished at around 4:15.

At the afternoon tish in his holy residence, the Rebbe said a Torah thought on the verse "Blow the shofar at the new moon" and explained that if there were no advocate, two days of Yom Tov would need to be made. The Rebbe recited the blessing over the cup.

After the seudah the Rebbe went to the mikvah in honor of Shabbos Kodesh. Before candle lighting time the Rebbe went over to the Heichal HaShulchanos, where he lit the Shabbos candles; the Rebbe made the blessing and lit the candles, and then went home to his holy residence, where he continued and lit the remaining candles.

"Yom Teruah Yihyeh Lachem" — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

On the first day of Yom Tov, at around 7:55 in the morning, the Rebbe entered for Shacharis.

The Rebbe shlit"a poured out his holy tefillos, between himself and his Maker, with a torn and trembling heart, begging for mercy like a poor man at the door, with awesome weeping that was heard throughout the entire beis medrash and shook the hearts of the thousands of mispallelim.
The Rebbe recited the berachos aloud, and afterwards the baal tefillah began singing Adon Olam. Pesukei D'Zimra: HaGaon Rabbi R' Avrohom Shalom Friedman shlit"a, one of the heads of the kollelim. The Rebbe recited "V'chorus" verse by verse. Shacharis: HaGaon HaGadol, the Dayan and Av Beis Din shlit"a. They finished at around 11:10.

After a short break, the Rebbe entered dressed in the kittel, the silver kapel, and white stockings with a bekitshe.
The honors of removing and returning the Torah were given to R' Yosef Hersh Sofer shlit"a, a Rav, and R' Aryeh Asher Indig shlit"a, a Rav.
The verses of Shema Yisroel: Rabbi Eliyahu Gross shlit"a of Berebesht.

The Rebbe was the baal korei, and read the Torah with weeping and great arousal.

The Rebbe went up to the aron kodesh, davened a silent tefillah, and began the fiery "Tekias Shofar drasha" on the verse "With trumpets and the sound of the shofar, shout," which is an acronym of "bushah," as cited in the Chasam Sofer. On Rosh Hashana one must do teshuvah both for the sin itself and for having delayed the teshuvah until now. Standing before the Holy One, one must feel fear like one standing before a king. Even though the shame is there, "the redness departs and the pallor comes"; when one is removed from the world there is atonement for sins. He continued with great weeping: Hashem looks and listens, He looks at the face to see whether one is truly ashamed, "mevin and mazin"; "mevin" has the letters of "banim," and is an acronym of "so that none be cast away from Him." Now is the time to daven for upright Jewish generations, and that all the lost souls should return and be awakened to teshuvah. He concluded with an abundance of berachos in all matters for the entire tzibbur. After the drasha the Rebbe recited Kaddish d'Rabbanan. They finished at around 1:25.

A bris took place for a baby boy born to R' Yushe Kahana, where the Rebbe was sandek and mohel.

Afterwards the Rebbe shlit"a went up to the bimah. The Sifrei Torah were held by R' Yisroel Spielman and R' Aharon Spitzer. The Rebbe recited "Min HaMeitzar," made the berachos with holy fire, and blew the tekios d'meyushav. The baal makri was HaGaon HaGadol, the Dayan and Av Beis Din shlit"a.

The Rebbe shlit"a approached the amud for Mussaf and recited "Hineni He'ani Mima'as," and began Kaddish at around 2:00.

The baal tokea for the tekios d'me'umad was HaGaon HaTzaddik Rabbi Shlomo Zabel shlit"a, Dayan of Beis Medrash Beis Dov.
The Rebbe shlit"a davened from a machzor of Nusach Tefillah Yeshara.
Standing before the aron kodesh in awe, with Your people surrounding them like a wall, maintaining the holy service with awe and fear, with arousal and holy emotion during Mussaf, especially during the pesukim of Malchiyos, Zichronos and Shofaros, in a voice that cuts and a heart poured out like water, "the eyes of Your people are hanging and eyes yearn for You."
The piyutim openings of Mussaf were honored to: R' Berel Palatchek, R' Mordechai Landau, R' Yisroel Herskowitz, R' Mordechai Hersh Farkash, and R' Chaim Hersh Schwartz.

R' Wolf Glick and R' Uri Yehuda Kaufman were honored to lift the Rebbe at "kor'im."
R' Yitzchak Ehrenfeld approached for "Kavei," and the opening for "Ane'im Zemiros" was R' Yisroel Aryeh Fischer (B"P). They finished at around 5:15 and immediately davened Mincha.
R' Aharon Spitzer davened before the amud; the Rebbe davened Shemoneh Esrei with the tallis over his head. They finished at around 5:45.

At the afternoon meal in his holy home, the Rebbe said Torah on the verse "Fortunate is the people who know the teruah," and explained that the power of Yaakov Avinu is present in every Jew, and in this way one is not cast away.
For Birkas Hamazon, the Rebbe honored R' Avrohom Moshe Falkowitz.

'Tichal Shana U'virchoseha'

Yom Tov Rosh Hashana 5785 - Shabbos Kodesh Parshas Haazinu / Shabbos Shuvah, B'tzeil HaKodesh with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a in the midst of the holy community of Kiryas Joel.
Hours of holiness and spiritual elevation that bestow 'chesed' and mercy

On Erev Yom Tov at around 5:10 in the morning, the Rebbe shlit"a entered for the recitation of Selichos, 'Zechor Bris,' in the Beis Medrash HaGadol.
The Rebbe shlit"a descended before the Amud with great hisorerus, wrapped in the tallis and cap of the Rebbe, the Divrei Yoel zy"a.
The opening passages were given as honors to R' Akiva Weinstock and R' Yitzchak Moshe Frankel. It concluded at around 7:30, and the Rebbe went home to his holy residence.

Before Shacharis, the following brissen took place:
The newborn son of R' Shlomo Meshulam Landau, where the Rebbe was sandek and mohel.
The newborn son of R' Yitzchak son of R' Efraim Teitelbaum, where the Rebbe was sandek and mohel.

At around 10:00 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the Beis Medrash HaGadol for Shacharis. Before davening, the Rebbe put tefillin on the bar mitzvah bochurim:
The bochur Yaakov Yoel Glick.
The bochur Yisroel Fisher.

After davening, Tehillim was completed as is customary in the month of Elul. After removing the tefillin, the Rebbe shlit"a performed Hatoras Nedarim before a minyan and recited the Moser Modaah, and thanked them and wished them a ksiva v'chasima tova.

On the night of Yom Tov, at around 7:05 in the evening, the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash wrapped in his tallis and approached Mincha with great hisorerus, and afterwards the piyut 'Achos Ketana' was recited as is customary.

After Mincha the annual appeal for the 'Mivtzar HaKollelim of Kiryas Joel,' with its thousand kollel members, took place. The director of the kollelim, HaGaon Rabbi Wolf Aharon Teller shlit"a, spoke.

Then at around 8:00 the Rebbe approached Maariv, and after davening 'L'Dovid Mizmor' was recited with fiery fervor as is customary.

After davening the Rebbe shlit"a went up to the Aron Kodesh for the 'Birchas HaKodesh' and said Torah on the verse 'Yisa verachah me'es Hashem,' and repeated in a child's voice, with tears, in the name of his grandfather, the holy R' Matele Hornsteipel zy"a, who repeated it from his great father-in-law, the holy Zanzer Zeide zy"a, that when there is a blessing in Jewish homes it is an honor for the Holy Creator, and then Hashem is the King of Glory. He wished the entire holy congregation abundant blessings, 'L'shana tova tikasevu v'sechasemu l'alter l'chaim tovim u'l'shalom,' and all the people answered in a loud voice 'Amen,' and in turn they blessed him in return. The thousands of Yidden wished the Rebbe 'l'shana tova,' and he too answered Amen to those blessing him, and then wished a good Yom Tov.
After descending, the Rebbe gave special wishes of l'shana tova to the Gaon HaGadol, the Dayan U'Morah D'Asra shlit"a, and the other rabbonim, and then went over to the Heichal HaShulchanos, where the Rebbe lit the Yom Tov candles. The Rebbe recited the bracha and lit the lights in the Heichal, and then went home to his holy residence, where the Rebbe continued and lit the remaining candles.

At around 11:10 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the Shulchan HaTahor in the Heichal HaShulchanos. Hagbahas HaKos: the Rebbe's grandson Rabbi Dovid Teitelbaum shlit"a, son of the Hagaon Hatzaddik, Av Beis Din of Sighet shlit"a.
After Kiddush the Rebbe cut the round challah with a new knife and dipped it in honey, raw honey, and made the bracha of Ha'etz on apples, dipped them in honey and said the yehi ratzon 'that a good and sweet year be renewed upon us,' and distributed shirayim from the apples to the entire gathering.
Then a lamb's head was brought in. The Rebbe said the yehi ratzon 'that we be as the head and not the tail,' and after tasting it, drank l'chaim and wished 'a good, blessed year, a good and sweet year.' After the meat, sweet carrots were served and the Rebbe said the yehi ratzon 'that our merits increase.'

During the tish the Rebbe lingered with the niggunim of the Yamim Noraim. During the singing of L'Dovid Mizmor, the Rebbe honored his grandson Rabbi Yisroel Dushinsky shlit"a (with an honor).

The Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the verse 'Ashrei haam yodei sruah' and explained that through the tekios while standing, which is a simcha shel mitzvah, both the aveiros and the accounting of the times when one could have done mitzvos are atoned for.
