The night of Tisha B'Av, 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

The Rebbe entered the beis medrash for Maariv at around 9:40. Baal tefilla: R' Amram Acker (Kiryas Joel).

Afterwards the Rebbe recited Megillas Eichah and the Kinnos for the night of Tisha B'Av, with weeping and lamentation. Eichah and the Kinnos were read aloud by Rabbi Shmuel Kraus shlit"a. It concluded at around 10:40.

Thursday, Va'eschanan - Tisha B'Av

The Rebbe entered for Shacharis at around 9:35.
- Baal tefilla: R' Amram Acker.
- Baal korei: Rabbi Shmuel Kraus shlit"a.
- Kohen: Rabbi Yitzchak Eizik Kahana.
- Levi: R' Shmuel Heimlich (Antwerp).
- Shlishi and Maftir: the Rebbe shlit"a.
- Hagbah: R' Chaim Yeshaya Weiss (Lakewood).
- Gelilah: R' Amram Acker.

Afterwards the Rebbe recited the brachos of the Haftarah, and then read the Haftarah aloud with great weeping.

After the Torah reading the Rebbe recited the Kinnos for Tisha B'Av. The Kinnos were read aloud by Rabbi Shmuel Kraus shlit"a.

After the Kinnos the Rebbe recited Ashrei, U'va L'Tzion, and Aleinu. It concluded at around 12:45.

The Rebbe entered the beis medrash for Mincha at around 7:10.

The Rebbe put on tallis and tefillin in the beis medrash, and then put tefillin on the bar mitzvah bochur, the bochur Nechemya Neiman (Kiryas Joel).
Afterwards he recited the four parshiyos, completed the Shir Shel Yom and Kavei. Then Mincha was davened.

- Shlishi and Maftir: the Rebbe shlit"a; it was purchased by R' Yosef Chaviv Masri, and the Rebbe thanked him.

- Gelilah: the bochur Yoel son of R' Yosef Chaviv Masri.

After Mincha the Rebbe recited the five daily chapters of Tehillim. It concluded at around 8:10.

The Rebbe entered for Maariv at the time of Rabbeinu Tam, at 9:35. Baal tefilla: the bochur Yosef son of R' Moshe Siman (Kiryas Joel).

After Maariv the Rebbe put on his shoes, and then broke the fast in the heichal of the beis medrash, while Nechama niggunim were sung. The Rebbe drank a lechayim and wished the bar mitzvah bochur and the entire congregation well.

Afterwards the Rebbe performed Kiddush Levana next to the beis medrash with great joy. After Kiddush Levana the congregation went over to take leave of him.

May it be Hashem's will that these days be transformed into joy and gladness.

Wednesday, Parshas Va'eschanan 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

The Rebbe entered for Shacharis at around 8:45. Before davening, the Rebbe put tefillin on the bar mitzvah bochur Yehoshua Glauber (Kiryas Joel).
- Baal Tefillah: the bochur Shmuel Meir son of Yekusiel Yitzchak Ehrenthal.
After davening, a lechayim gathering with the bar mitzvah bochur took place in the main hall of the beis medrash. The Rebbe drank a lechayim and offered blessings to the bar mitzvah bochur and to the entire assembly.

Afterwards, the Rebbe walked home to his holy residence, and a conversation developed about the Yom Tov of Tisha B'Av that will be in the future.

The Rebbe entered for Mincha at around 7:10. Baal Tefillah: the bochur Aharon son of Chaim Shlomo Krausz (Kiryas Joel). After Mincha, the many guests went over to say goodbye, and the Rebbe walked home to his holy residence.

Monday, Parshas Va'eschanan — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

The Rebbe entered for Shacharis at around 8:50.

- Pesicha: R' Refael Wertheimer (Kiryas Joel).
- Baal Koreh: HaRav HaChosid R' Shlomo Rubinstein (Kiryas Joel).

- Shlishi: the Rebbe shlit"a; it was purchased by R' Refael Wertheimer, and the Rebbe thanked him.

After davening, the Rebbe walked home to his holy residence, and a conversation developed about the customs of mourning during the Three Weeks and Tisha B'Av.

The Rebbe entered for Mincha at around 8:55. Baal Tefillah: R' Shmuel Krausz shlit"a. Between Mincha and Maariv the Rebbe was engaged in his learning. At the time of Rabbeinu Tam, Maariv was davened.

Sunday, Parshas Va'eschanan — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a, in the resort town of Bethlehem, New Hampshire

The Rebbe entered for Shacharis at around 8:50.
- Baal Tefillah: the bochur Asher Lemel son of Shmuel Landau (Kiryas Joel).

After davening, the many guests who had stayed for Shabbos B'tzeil HaKodesh went over to take their leave. Afterwards the Rebbe walked home to his holy residence, and a conversation developed about the Arizal zy"a, whose yahrzeit it was.

The Rebbe entered for Mincha at around 8:55. Baal Tefillah: Eli son of Yaakov Farkash (Kiryas Joel). Between Mincha and Maariv the Rebbe was engaged in his learning. At the time of Rabbeinu Tam, Maariv was davened. Baal Tefillah: R' Yoel Eckstein shlit"a (Kiryas Joel).

After Maariv, the Rebbe offered consolation by telephone to the children of HaGaon Rabbi Mordechai Beck zt"l, Rosh Yeshiva of Tiferes Moshe.

Shabbos Kodesh, Parshas Devarim – Shabbos Chazon, 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a, in the resort town of Bethlehem, New Hampshire

For this Shabbos, a group of outstanding talmidim of the Mesivta, Beirach Moshe branch, were chosen to spend it b'tzeil hakodesh.

On Erev Shabbos, after the mikvah, the following gave answers to the question that the Rebbe left over in yeshiva:
- The bochur Yoel Hersh, son of Mordechai Gelber (Yerushalayim).
- The bochur Eliezer, son of Yosef Menachem Wagschal (Monsey).
- The bochur Avrohom, son of Bentzion Weinberger (Monsey).

Friday night at around 9:00 the Rebbe entered the beis medrash wrapped in his tallis and approached the amud for Mincha. Kabbalas Shabbos: R' Leibish Prans (Monsey). They finished at around 10:30. The congregation went over to wish a good Shabbos and to greet the Rebbe, and the Rebbe went into his private room.

At around 10:55 the Rebbe came to the holy tish in the beis medrash together with the yeshiva talmidim and many guests from among the chassidim, and began, as is his holy custom, with Sholom Aleichem, with emotion and sweetness.
- Eishes Chayil: the grandson of the Rebbe, the bochur Yoel Dushinsky, son of the Rebbe's son-in-law, HaGaon HaTzaddik, rav of the Beis Medrash Ohel Feiga shlit"a.
- Raising of the cup: the Rebbe's son-in-law, HaGaon HaTzaddik, rav of the Beis Medrash Ohel Feiga shlit"a.
- Kol Mekadesh: HaGaon Rabbi Yoel Gutman shlit"a, moreh tzedek in our holy kehilla, Kiryas Joel.
- Menucha V'Simcha: Rabbi Shmuel Kraus shlit"a, rebbi in the yeshiva.

The Rebbe said Torah on the verse "These are the words that Moshe spoke," and explained, in the manner of a derush, the topic of whether the word "es" is subject to interpretation (derashah).

- Birkas Hamazon: the Rebbe's son-in-law, HaGaon HaTzaddik, rav of the Beis Medrash Ohel Feiga shlit"a.

Stories and anecdotes: This week the Rebbe shlit"a told stories about the holy Chozeh of Lublin zy"a, whose yahrzeit falls on Thursday, Tisha B'Av.

- Kah Ribon Olam: R' Yitzchak Yosef Grad (Williamsburg).
The newly married young men went over to take shirayim. A Shalom Zachar for a newborn son was held at the home of R' Mordechai Leib Markowitz (Kiryas Joel).
- Az B'Yom HaShvi'i: Rabbi Yoel, son of R' Avrohom Eckstein shlit"a (Kiryas Joel).
They finished at around 2:00.

And on the day of Shabbos

On Shabbos morning the Rebbe came in to daven at around 9:45.

At the Seudas Atika Kadisha the Rebbe came over to the beis medrash for the zemiros and divrei Torah at around 3:05. They sang niggunim of galus and geulah, the Rebbe tasted from the challah and kugel and wished lechayim.
They continued with niggunim of longing for the complete Redemption, and the Rebbe stood up and danced to Achakeh Lo for an extended time.

- Baruch Kel Elyon: R' Moshe Shmuel Samet (Kiryas Joel).

The Rebbe said Torah on the verse "These are the words that Moshe spoke," and explained that if one does not do teshuvah for an aveirah, it is even worse than the aveirah itself, and this is the meaning of "chata'u b'chaflayim" (they sinned doubly), and therefore "lakchu b'chaflayim" (they were punished doubly).

Ra'avah D'Ra'avin

The Rebbe came in for Mincha at around 9:00.

At Shalosh Seudos the Rebbe honored the following with zemiros.

The Rebbe said Torah on the verse "These are the words that Moshe spoke," and explained that if a person is careful to speak only the truth, then Hashem helps him be saved from the yetzer hara and he will not stumble in the severe aveiros. At the time of the destruction of the Beis HaMikdash, people were not careful with the trait of truth, and they stumbled in the severe aveiros, and this brought about the destruction of the Beis HaMikdash.
The Rebbe continued with words of mussar: now, in the days of Bein HaMetzarim, "Every generation in which the Beis HaMikdash is not rebuilt, it is as if it was destroyed in its days," and this is because today too, people are not careful to speak only the truth, and we live in a country where everything is founded on falsehood, and people are dragged along by it. The Rebbe quoted the holy Chasam Sofer zy"a: "When you merit, you count toward the rebuilding, and if you do not merit, you count toward the destruction." The Chasam Sofer used to calculate how many years had passed since the destruction of the Beis HaMikdash, and with a weeping voice he would say that it has already been 1,958 years since the destruction of the Beis HaMikdash and we have still not been redeemed. The Rebbe concluded and blessed that we should merit to cling to the trait of truth and merit complete teshuvah, and through this we will merit that these days be turned into joy and gladness with the coming of the true Redeemer, bimheira b'yameinu, Amen.
