Shabbos Kodesh, Parshas Matos-Masei, "B'tzeil HaKodesh" with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a, at the vacation location in Bethlehem, New Hampshire.

This week, the talmidim of the Mesivta "Sniff Kedushas Yoel" merited to spend Shabbos in the Rebbe's shadow (b'tzeil hakodesh).

On Erev Shabbos afternoon, after the mikvah, the following bochurim, talmidim of the yeshiva, presented answers to the question that the Rebbe had left in the Heichal HaMesivta:
HaGaon Rabbi Moshe Yosef Ashkenazi shlit"a, a rebbi in the yeshiva.
The bochur Lipa, son of R' Baruch Frankel.
The bochur Shalom, son of R' Pinchas Frankel.
The bochur Shlomo Yaakov, son of R' Mordechai Yechezkel Lowy.
The bochur Mendel Wolf, son of R' Yechezkel Makovetzky.
The bochur Nata, son of R' Yosef Amram Markowitz.
The bochur Zalman, son of R' Anshil Zaldan.
The bochur Moshe, son of R' Zalman Leib Filaf.

On Friday night at around 8:45, the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash wrapped in his tallis and approached the amud for Mincha and Kabbalas Shabbos: HaGaon Rabbi Dovid Shlomo Laub shlit"a (Monsey), a rebbi in the mesivta.

Davening ended at around 10:20. The congregation went over to wish a good Shabbos and shake hands, and the Rebbe shlit"a went home to his holy residence.

At around 11:10, the Rebbe shlit"a entered the Friday night seudah in the heichal of the beis medrash together with the talmidim of the mesivta and many guests, and began, as is his holy custom, "Shalom Aleichem" with feeling and sweetness.

The Rebbe shlit"a honored people with the zemiros. Kol Mekadesh: R' Aharon Yekusiel Berkowitz shlit"a (Monsey); Menucha V'Simcha: HaGaon Rabbi Yoel Yitzchak Stern shlit"a, a rebbi in the mesivta, a moreh tzedek and dayan of the Dinov beis medrash in Kiryas Joel.

The Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the Masoretic note "Nachnu na'avor chalutzim" and explained, in the manner of a derush, the sugya of "ein aseh docheh lo sa'aseh shebamikdash."

Kah Echsof: HaGaon Rabbi Mendel Friedman shlit"a, a rebbi in the mesivta; Birkas Hamazon: HaGaon HaTzaddik Rabbi Kalman Halberstam shlit"a, Av Beis Din of Sanz in Kiryas Joel and director of our yeshiva's Sniff Kedushas Yoel.

This week the Rebbe shlit"a told stories and anecdotes about the holy Arizal zy"a, whose yahrzeit fell on Tuesday, 5 Av. Kah Ribon Olam: R' Aharon Hersh Mittelman (Boro Park).

The new chasanim went over to take fruit, as at the seventh day: R' Yosef Massri, a rebbi in the mesivta. The seudah ended at around 2:10.

And on the holy day of Shabbos

On Shabbos morning the Rebbe shlit"a came in to daven at 9:45. Pesukei D'Zimra: HaGaon Rabbi Yoel Yitzchak Stern shlit"a. The Rebbe shlit"a approached the amud for Shacharis, and sent HaGaon HaTzaddik Rabbi Kalman Halberstam shlit"a to lead the chazaras hashatz.

Removing and returning the Torah: the bochur Kalman Eisdorfer (Boro Park); the verses of Shema Yisroel: R' Yosef Moshe Ungar (Monsey); Baal Korei: R' Yehoshua Mendlowitz, a Shabbos guest.

At around 3:00 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash for the zemiros at the afternoon seudah. Kugel and lechayim were brought in, and several niggunim of galus and geulah were sung while the Rebbe shlit"a wept at length.

The Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the Masoretic note "Nachnu na'avor chalutzim" and explained that Jewish children are not nullified by the majority, because the complete emunah is certain.

The Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash for Mincha and Shalosh Seudos at around 8:45. Mincha: R' Avrohom Leib Landau shlit"a, a rebbi in the mesivta. Removing and returning the Torah: R' Reuven Glantz (Kiryas Joel). Kohen: Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Kahana; Levi: the bochur Yuda Hersh Berger (Kiryas Joel); Shlishi: R' Aharon Hersh Mittelman. In the Torah he said, the Rebbe shlit"a took as his starting point the verse "Vayichtov Moshe es motza'eihem lemasa'eihem al pi Hashem," and explained that through the power of the Name Havayah, the name of mercy, we merit that Hashem punishes by giving much good, and in this way one makes a cheshbon hanefesh. But if one has blemished in matters of kedushah, one has blemished the Name Havayah, and that is precisely why the churban came. Regarding this, we must accept upon ourselves to add a safeguard (shmirah), and then we will merit the building of the Beis Hamikdash.

Before bentching, the Yiddish piyut on "Eizehu Mekoman" was sung. Afterward, the Rebbe shlit"a bentched on a cup. Lifting the cup: HaGaon HaTzaddik Rabbi Baruch Horowitz shlit"a, dayan of Melitz.

Maariv of Motzei Shabbos: R' Aharon Hersh Weber (Williamsburg). After Havdalah, people went over to wish a good week. It ended at 11:20.

Afterward, several bochurim, talmidim of the yeshiva, presented answers to the question that the Rebbe had left in the Heichal HaMesivta. Among them:

Friday, Rosh Chodesh Av, 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

The Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash for Shacharis at about 8:50. Before davening, the Rebbe put tefillin on the bar mitzvah bochur Moshe Katz (Kiryas Joel).

Baal tefillah: R' Yosef Moshe Ungar (Monsey). The Rebbe shlit"a went up to the amud for Hallel.
Pesichah: HaRav R' Akiva Yosef Kahana shlit"a.

After davening, the guests came over to greet the Rebbe, and then a lechayim gathering was held in the hall of the beis medrash. The Rebbe drank lechayim and blessed the bar mitzvah bochur and the entire congregation. The Rebbe spoke about the yahrzeit of Aharon HaKohen, and related stories and incidents about the Kreizer Rav, HaRav HaKadosh R' Aharon Halberstam zt"l, son of the Divrei Chaim zy"a, whose yahrzeits fall on Friday, Rosh Chodesh Av. After the lechayim the Rebbe walked home. On the way a conversation developed about various customs of the Nine Days.

The Rebbe drank lechayim and gave his holy blessings, and spoke about the yahrzeit of Aharon HaKohen, and of the Kreizer Rav, HaRav HaKadosh Rabbi Aharon Halberstam zt"l, son of the Divrei Chaim zy"a, whose yahrzeits fall on Friday, Rosh Chodesh Av.

After the lechayim the Rebbe walked home. On the way a conversation developed about the rabbinates of the districts of Sanz, Kreiz, Gribov, Babov and the surrounding villages, and the differences between the rabbinates in Poland and Hungary.

The Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash for Mincha at about 9:00. On the way to Mincha, the Rebbe discussed the customs of the holy Rebbes zy"a regarding cutting nails on Erev Shabbos when it coincides with Rosh Chodesh and the like.

After Mincha, guests who had come to spend Shabbos b'tzeil hakodesh greeted the Rebbe. Among them was R' Moshe Ungar of Shikun Skver, a member of the Kehilla's administration in Kiryas Joel, who delivered a report about various plans for expanding the borders of holiness in Kiryas Joel.

Several bochurim also presented the Rebbe with an answer to the question the Rebbe left in the Heichal HaMesivta, among them:

Wednesday, 28 Tammuz, the yahrzeit of the Yismach Moshe zy"a, 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a, at the vacation location in Bethlehem, New Hampshire

The Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash for Shacharis at around 8:50. Before davening, the Rebbe put on tefillin with the bar mitzvah bochur, the bochur Yoel Berger (Kiryas Joel).

The Rebbe lit 5 candles and led the davening as chazzan in honor of the yahrzeit of his ancestor, the Yismach Moshe zy"a. The Rebbe's grandson, the chassan Asher Anshel Ashkenazi, son of HaGaon Rabbi Ashkenazi shlit"a, Rav of Beis Medrash Avnei Tzedek, approached for Tehillim.

After davening, a lechayim gathering took place in the hall of the beis medrash. The Rebbe drank lechayim, offered blessings to the bar mitzvah bochur and to the entire assembly, and told several stories and episodes about the one whose yahrzeit it was. After the lechayim, the Rebbe walked home.

The Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash for Mincha at around 8:15. As he walked into the beis medrash, the talmidim of the yeshiva gedolah, shiur 4, together with the roshei yeshiva, greeted him. Before davening, the Rebbe lit 5 candles and led the davening as chazzan in honor of the yahrzeit.

After Mincha, the Rebbe came into the beis medrash for the hilula seudah with the talmidim of the yeshiva gedolah, shiur 4. At the hilula seudah, a ceremony of laying the cornerstone for the founding of the yeshiva ketana Torah V'Yirah in our holy mosdos in Antwerp also took place, which will open b'ezras Hashem in the coming winter term, IY"H.

The Rebbe washed for the seudah. Before the fish, HaRav HaGaon R' Yitzchak Yaakov Rosenfeld shlit"a, one of the roshei yeshiva, made a siyum on Maseches Makkos, which had been learned in the yeshiva, and then recited Kaddish. At the lechayim after the fish, the Rebbe wished, "May his merit protect us." During the seudah, many niggunim of exile and redemption were sung.

With "Michtam L'Dovid," the Rebbe honored HaGaon Rabbi Kalman Halberstam shlit"a, Av Beis Din of Zanz in Kiryas Joel and director of our holy yeshiva, the Kedushas Yoel branch. The Rebbe then delivered holy words from the teachings of the one whose yahrzeit it was, and words of chizuk for the bochurim interwoven with stories about him. The Rebbe shlit"a then spoke in praise of our kehilla and holy mosdos in Antwerp, especially about the great simcha of the laying of the cornerstone for the new yeshiva ketana, because one looks toward the future and already now sees the Torah that will come forth. He concluded with very warm words of blessing for the askanim and words of chizuk and his holy blessings for the bochurim.

Afterward, HaRav HaChassid R' Yoel Fogel, one of the leading askanim of our holy kehilla in Antwerp, placed the special brick on the table. The Rebbe placed coins in, poured the foundation, and set the brick on top, and then recited a holy prayer, during which inspiring niggunim were sung for an extended time. After the cornerstone was laid, they continued to sing joyous niggunim.

The Rebbe shlit"a recited the blessing over the cup; the cup was raised by HaRav HaGaon R' Yitzchak Yaakov Rosenfeld shlit"a.

It concluded at around 10:15, and the Rebbe davened Maariv. After Maariv, a group of members of the kehilla from Montreal, who had come to take part in the yahrzeit seudah, bid farewell, and the Rebbe walked home.

Tuesday, 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

The Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash for Shacharis at around 8:50. Baal tefillah: HaRav HaChassid R' Nachman Dov Heller (Williamsburg). After davening, the Rebbe walked home.

In the late morning hours, at around 11:30, the Rebbe went for a walk in Naos Desha, during which wonderful conversations were held on divrei Torah and stories of tzaddikim, about the esrogim of Eretz Yisroel during Shmittah, the state of Yiddishkeit after the First World War, and the founding of the girls' schools in Europe and in America by the Rebbe zy"a (the Divrei Yoel).

The Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash for Mincha at around 8:55. Between Mincha and Maariv, the Rebbe was engaged in learning in the beis medrash. At the time of Rabbeinu Tam, around 9:35, he davened Maariv. Before davening, the Rebbe lit 5 candles and led the davening as chazzan in honor of the yahrzeit of his ancestor, the Yismach Moshe zy"a.

After davening, the Rebbe walked home. On the way, a conversation took place about the Yismach Moshe zy"a's journey to Sighet.

Monday: "B'tzeil HaKodesh" with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

The Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash for Shacharis at around 8:50. Baal tefillah: R' Eliezer Gefen (Kiryas Joel).
Aliyos: Kohen: R' Yeshaya Yitzchak Rubin (Williamsburg); Levi: R' Yoel Bar Rav Appel (Kiryas Joel); Shlishi: the Rebbe shlit"a, which was purchased by R' Mordechai Shabsai Shimon, and the Rebbe thanked him. Hagbah: HaGaon HaTzaddik, the Av Beis Din of Rosh Chochmah shlit"a; Gelilah: R' Yitzchak Pinchas Glanzer (Kiryas Joel).

After davening the Rebbe walked home; on the way a conversation developed about the prayer before learning of Maran HaGaon HaKadosh the Yismach Moshe zy"a.

During the morning hours the Rebbe went over to the new kitchen that serves the esteemed guests of the PMR resort, under the supervision of the Hisachdus HaRabbanim. The Rebbe looked over the kitchen facilities and warmly wished the cook, R' Simcha Shmuel, well. Afterwards the Rebbe went over to look over the Shearman's Hotel, which serves as lodging for the talmidei hamesivta who are spending Shabbos with the Rebbe.

The Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash for Mincha at around 9:00. Between Mincha and Maariv, the Rebbe was engaged in his learning in the beis medrash. At the time of Rabbeinu Tam, around 9:40, he davened Maariv, and after Maariv the Rebbe walked home.
