Tisha B'Av in the Shadow of Holiness with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a, at the Vacation Location in Bethlehem, New Hampshire

On Motzei Shabbos, the night of Tisha B'Av, at around 10:00, the Rebbe shlit"a came in to Maariv in the hall of the nearby Chandler Hotel.
Baal tefillah: R' Aharon Hersh Weber (Williamsburg). After Maariv the Rebbe recited the blessing of Borei Meorei HaEish.

"She weeps bitterly in the night"
After Maariv the Rebbe shlit"a recited Megillas Eichah and the kinos for the night of Tisha B'Av, and lamented the destruction of the Beis HaMikdash with intense weeping. HaRav R' Shmuel Kraus shlit"a led the recitation. They concluded at around 11:00.

On Sunday, Tisha B'Av morning, at around 9:45, the Rebbe shlit"a came in to Shacharis in the hall of the hotel. During Birchos HaShachar the Rebbe also recited the blessing of "She'asah li kol tzorchi." Baal tefillah: HaRav R' Aharon Hersh Berkowitz.

Afterward the Rebbe recited the blessings and the Haftarah for an extended time, in tears.

After the Torah reading the Rebbe recited the kinos for the day of Tisha B'Av with weeping and lamentation. HaRav R' Yoshe Mendlowitz led the recitation. After the kinos they concluded with Ashrei, U'va L'Tziyon, and Aleinu. They concluded at around 1:00.

On leaving, the Rebbe thanked the non-Jewish owners of the hotel for permitting the use of the hall for the tefillos.

The Rebbe shlit"a came into the beis medrash for Mincha at around 6:45. The Rebbe put on tallis and tefillin in the beis medrash, recited the four parshiyos, took the tzitzis during Krias Shema, and then completed the Shir Shel Yom and Kavei. After Mincha the Rebbe recited the five daily chapters of Tehillim, and then put on Rabbeinu Tam tefillin. They concluded at around 7:45.

After Mincha a lengthy discussion developed regarding the custom of whether Birkas Kohanim is recited at Mincha on Tisha B'Av. The Rebbe then related the bloody history of the Crusaders and of various kinos that were composed after various tragedies. Afterward the Rebbe went home to his holy residence.

The Rebbe shlit"a came into the beis medrash for Maariv at around 9:20. Baal tefillah: R' Aharon Hersh Weber.

After Maariv the Rebbe recited Havdalah and broke the fast, and nigunim of consolation and redemption were sung. Afterward the Rebbe put on his shoes.

From there the Rebbe went out in front of the beis medrash and walked down the street for a few minutes, where the Rebbe recited Kiddush Levana with the joy of a mitzvah, and then walked back to his holy residence.

May it be Your will that the Beis HaMikdash be rebuilt speedily in our days, and may these days be transformed to joy and gladness

Shabbos Kodesh, Parshas Devarim, Shabbos Chazon — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a, at the vacation location in Bethlehem, New Hampshire.

This week, the talmidim of the Mesivta, 'Beirach Moshe' branch, together with the talmidim of the Yeshiva Gedola 'Esek HaTorah', Monsey branch, merited to spend Shabbos B'tzeil HaKodesh.

On Erev Shabbos afternoon, on the way to the mikvah, the talmidim of Yeshiva Gedola 'Esek HaTorah' together with the menahel, HaRav HaGaon R' Yisroel Mordechai Seidenfeld shlit"a, greeted the Rebbe.

After the mikvah, the following bochurim, talmidim of the yeshiva, presented answers to the question that the Rebbe had left in the Heichal HaMesivta:
The bochur Aharon son of Zalman Leib Filaff.
The bochur Lipa son of Chaim Azriel Fried.
The bochur Lipa son of Yoel Kaufman.
The bochur Yeshaya Meir son of Yoel Bleich.

The bochur Moshe Amram son of Yitzchak Michael Grad.

On Friday night at around 8:40, the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash wrapped in his tallis and approached the amud for Mincha. During the chazaras hashatz the Rebbe prolonged with weeping, especially during the blessings of the redemption of Yisroel. Kabbolas Shabbos: HaRav HaGaon R' Shmuel Kraus shlit"a, rebbi in the Mesivta.

Davening ended at around 10:10. The crowd went over to wish a good Shabbos and greet the Rebbe, and the Rebbe shlit"a went home to his holy residence.

At around 10:55 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the Friday night seudah in the Heichal of the beis medrash together with the talmidim of the Mesivta and many guests, and began, as is his holy custom, 'Shalom Aleichem' with feeling and sweetness.

The Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the verse "These are the words that Moshe spoke," and explained in the manner of derush the topic of kinyan peiros k'kinyan haguf.

At around 2:10 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash for the zemiros at the afternoon seudah. Joyous nigunim were sung on the occasion of the Kiddusha Rabbah celebrating the birth of a granddaughter to the Rebbe's grandson Rabbi Nachman Kahana shlit"a.

They prolonged with nigunim of emunah, galus and geulah, with great arousal.

Kugel and lechayim were brought in. The Rebbe shlit"a honored people with the zemiros. Baruch Hashem: HaRav HaChasid Yosef Dov Rosenfeld (Kiryas Joel). Baruch Kel Elyon: HaRav HaChasid R' Zusha Neustadt (Kiryas Joel).

The Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the verse "And because of our sins we were exiled from our land," and spoke about the destruction of the Beis Hamikdash.

Raava D'Raavin

The Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash for the zemiros of Raava D'Raavin at around 7:50. The Rebbe ate a kezayis of challah and wished lechayim.

At Shalosh Seudos the Rebbe shlit"a honored people with the zemiros. Odeh: HaRav HaChasid R' Yaakov Fried. Shir HaMaalos: HaRav HaChasid R' Avrohom Mordechai Gross.

At the Torah, the Rebbe shlit"a took up the verse "Yehuda was exiled because of affliction," and explained that if one is not careful in matters of kedusha, he loses the tzelem Elokim and the tefillos are not accepted. For this very reason, even though the Jews davened in a minyan, the destruction came, because the tefillos were not accepted. Then the Rebbe shlit"a prolonged with weeping over "Any generation in which the Beis Hamikdash is not rebuilt is considered as if it was destroyed in its days." The Chasam Sofer zy"a says: when you merit, you count toward its building, and if you do not merit, you count toward its destruction. "We are already 1954 years after the destruction of the Beis Hamikdash and still have not been saved," and this is because we add sin upon transgression and do not do teshuva for the sins. The Rebbe concluded with the words of the Rebbe of Lublin zy"a: "When Mashiach comes, Tisha B'Av will be a Yom Tov and we will say, 'And You gave us, Hashem our God, this day of Tisha B'Av.'" He wished that we should already merit this speedily. May it be His will that these days be turned into joy and gladness.
