Sunday, Parshas Ki Savo — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

The Satmar Rebbe shlit"a davened Shacharis in Beis Medrash Eitz Chaim Sighet in Williamsburg. Before davening, the Rebbe put tefillin on the following bar mitzvah bochurim:
the son of R' Eliyahu Alter Horanchik shlit"a;
the son of R' Tzvi Meir Gottlieb shlit"a;
the bochur Shimon Elazar Marmorstein;
the twin sons of R' Eliezer Yitzchak Feldman;
the bochur Wolf Weiss.
The Rebbe shlit"a lit 5 candles for the yahrzeit of his ancestor, the holy Rebbe R' Yisroel Yaakov Yokel of Volove zt"l. After davening, the shofar was blown, and then a lechayim was held with the bar mitzvah bochurim in the heichal of the beis medrash.

In the afternoon, there were yechidus hours in the inner sanctum from about 2:45 until 6:30 at his holy residence on Hewes St. After the yechidus hours, the Rebbe davened Mincha at his holy residence.

At about 7:30 the Rebbe shlit"a arrived at our magnificent beis medrash, Binyan Brach, where a huge crowd had gathered for the simcha of the hachnasas sefer Torah, donated by the builder and founder of the beis medrash building, the distinguished philanthropist R' Avrohom Brach. The Rebbe led the holy dancing with great vigor and energy, honored the philanthropist, the distinguished R' Avrohom, with placing the Sefer Torah into the Aron Kodesh, and then recited Ledavid Mizmor as is customary.

At about 9:15 the Rebbe davened Maariv at his holy residence.

Afterwards the Rebbe went to the home of his son, HaGaon Rabbi Av Beis Din of Sighet shlit"a, to honor the Vachnacht celebration for the newborn son of his son-in-law, Rabbi Chaim Shlomo Horowitz shlit"a. The Rebbe drank a lechayim and offered blessings to the baal simcha, the distinguished grandfathers and the entire gathering, and a conversation developed about the tziyun in Volove and about the life story of the Volover Rav zt"l, whose yahrzeit fell on Sunday. On his way out, the Rebbe recited Krias Shema and blessed the mothers who had given birth.

At about 10:05 the Rebbe went to our beis medrash, Binyan Brach, for the festive seudah in honor of the completion of the Torah. Upon arrival the Rebbe danced in the open area for several minutes, and HaGaon Rabbi Av Beis Din of Williamsburg and its environs shlit"a spoke a few brief words.
Then the Rebbe drank a lechayim and blessed the baal simcha, the distinguished philanthropist R' Avrohom, and the entire gathering, and delivered holy words. The Rebbe based his remarks on the verse "Hashem will establish you as a holy nation to Himself," and explained matters relating to the hachnasas sefer Torah, and spoke in praise of the esteemed philanthropist R' Avrohom, who built this magnificent place for Torah, for davening and for purity, and of all that the philanthropist does for our holy kehilla here and in all corners of the world, and especially for the holy mosdos Yitev Lev in Beit Shemesh.
Then the Rebbe addressed the pressing matters of the day concerning the kashrus scandal in Lakewood, expressing his pain that people rely on giving hashgacha to non-Jewish owners, and even more so that Jews with beards and peyos, wearing shtreimels and bekeshes, rely on those hechsherim, and he called for teshuva and for correcting one's actions, especially now in the days of the month of Elul.
Then the Rebbe mentioned the decrees against chinuch that are looming over New York Jewry, and said that with the shofar "let it awaken and sound to destroy every evildoer" the decrees will be halted. We have a promise, "Hashem will establish you as a holy nation to Himself" — with Hashem's help we will remain a holy nation, "they shall not harm and shall not destroy"; they will not succeed in changing either the chinuch of boys or the chinuch of girls. We will not change anything, no one will touch us, and we will educate in the future just as we educated in the past. The Rebbe concluded with his holy blessings. It ended at about 10:55.

At about 11:45 the Rebbe arrived in Linden, New Jersey for the ceremony of the "opening of the mosdos and affixing of the mezuzah" for our holy mosdos in Linden. The Rebbe affixed a mezuzah on the building's gate, and afterwards a lechayim gathering was held. HaGaon Rabbi Elazar Mordechai Sofer shlit"a, Rav of our kehilla in Linden, spoke. The Rebbe drank a lechayim, blessed the Rav shlit"a, the mosdos administration, the philanthropists and the entire gathering, and delivered holy words, speaking about the expansion of the boundaries of holiness in Linden and the responsibility resting on the first residents who are laying the foundation for the city. He concluded with his holy blessings to all the esteemed donors and askanim.
After the lechayim the Rebbe toured the entire building and looked into the classrooms, and honored the Rav shlit"a with affixing a mezuzah. Afterwards the Rebbe went over and toured the adjacent building of Beis Rachel. At about 12:30 the Rebbe shlit"a set out for his holy residence in Kiryas Joel.

Motzei Shabbos, Parshas Ki Seitzei — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

At around 11:15 the Rebbe shlit"a arrived at the home of the distinguished philanthropist R' Avrohom Brach for the writing of the letters of the Sefer Torah that is being brought in today, Sunday, to our magnificent beis medrash, the Binyan Brach beis medrash. The Rebbe shlit"a wrote in the letters. Afterwards, R' Avrohom showed the Rebbe very interesting and valuable historical holy books and manuscripts that he has in his collection, and the Rebbe looked them over for an extended time. The Rebbe then gave R' Avrohom a precious gift, a silver honey holder along with honey, for his devoted efforts on behalf of the Yitav Lev institutions in Beit Shemesh, and wished him a good and sweet year.
The Rebbe drank a lechayim and bestowed his holy blessings upon R' Avrohom, his father R' Shmuel Chaim, his father-in-law R' Chaim Yehoshua Gelbstein, and the entire family.

At around 11:40 the Rebbe shlit"a arrived at the Eden Palace halls for the siyum of Maseches Kiddushin and the end of the term of the 9th grade preparatory class for yeshiva. Upon arrival, the Rav of Williamsburg, HaGaon Rabbi Moshe Teitelbaum shlit"a (the Av Beis Din), addressed the gathering. Then the Rebbe's grandson, the distinguished bochur Yekusiel Yehuda, son of the Av Beis Din of Sighet shlit"a, delivered the siyum on Maseches Kiddushin, and afterwards spoke with fitting words in honor of the exalted occasion. Rhymes were then sung in honor of the occasion.
The Rebbe drank a lechayim, wished all the bochurim, parents, and Torah teachers well, and then delivered a Dvar Torah.
After the Dvar Torah, the Rebbe distributed to all the bochurim the sefer Imra D'Marah, on Maseches Kiddushin.

After the siyum, at around 12:50, the Rebbe shlit"a set out for Boro Park to the Sheva Brachos simcha at the home of Vizhnitz, Vien, Drohobych, arranged by the Drohobych kehilla. At around 1:15 the Rebbe arrived at the home of the Av Beis Din of Drohobych, HaGaon shlit"a. A lengthy conversation took place with the mechutan, the Av Beis Din of Drohobych shlit"a, about the holy Rabbi Yisroel Yaakov Yukel of Valova zt"l, whose yahrzeit falls today, Sunday. The Rebbe drank a lechayim and bestowed his holy blessings. HaGaon Rabbi Meir Meyer shlit"a was honored with Birkas Hamazon, and then the Rebbe shlit"a recited the Sheva Brachos over a cup made after the cup of his ancestor, the holy Yismach Moshe zy"a. The Rebbe then joined a mitzvah dance with the chosson and the mechutanim shlit"a.

From there the Rebbe shlit"a went to the home of the askan R' Yudel Perlstein for the Sheva Brachos simcha of his son, the chosson. The Rebbe drank a lechayim, bestowed his holy blessings, and then danced with the chosson and the mechutanim. At around 2:10 the Rebbe set out on the way home to his holy residence in Williamsburg.

Shabbos Kodesh, Parshas Ki Seitzei — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a, in the midst of our holy kehilla in Williamsburg.

On Friday night at around 7:45 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the Beis Medrash HaGadol wrapped in his tallis and approached the amud for Mincha. Kabbalas Shabbos: HaGaon Rabbi Hershel Horowitz shlit"a (Boro Park), director of the Yeshiva for Young Boys.

The davening concluded at around 8:30. The crowd went over to say Gut Shabbos, and the Rebbe shlit"a went into his private room in the newly renovated Hillman building. Upon entering, the Rebbe looked over the ongoing renovations.

At around 10:10 the Rebbe shlit"a came to the Shabbos seudah in Heichal Tehillos Yosef together with the students of the Yeshiva for Young Boys of Williamsburg, and began, as is his holy custom, 'Shalom Aleichem' with feeling and sweetness.

Before the fish was served, the Rebbe shlit"a said Torah to the bochurim on the connection between the prohibition of shatnez and the mitzvah of tzitzis. From here we learn that a positive commandment overrides a negative commandment. The reason a positive commandment overrides a negative commandment is that where one was prevented by circumstances, we say it is considered as if he did not do it, whereas we do not say that it is considered as if he did it; therefore a positive commandment is stronger. From this we must learn a lesson for the service of Hashem: there are indeed many excuses, but in practice nothing was accomplished. He spoke especially to the bochurim to learn in the proper way, to understand a topic in the depth of the Torah, thoroughly and with analysis, and not superficially.

The Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the verse "You shall not wear shatnez, wool and linen together," and explained, in the manner of a derush, in the sugya of a positive commandment overriding a negative commandment.

Stories and anecdotes: This week the Rebbe shlit"a told over about HaRav HaKadosh R' Yaakov Yisroel of Cherkas zy"a, whose yahrzeit fell on Friday, 13 Elul. Kah Ribon Olam: Rabbi Nechemia Kahana shlit"a, son of the Saredna Rebbe shlit"a (Bnei Brak).

The new chassanim went through to take fruit. Afterwards the Shalom Zachor took place for the grandson of the Rebbe, Rabbi Chaim Shlomo Horowitz shlit"a, son-in-law of the HaGaon Av Beis Din of Sighet shlit"a. Bundlach and beer were brought in and joyous songs were sung. The Rebbe tasted and wished the baal simcha, the grandfathers and the entire public well.

Mincha: R' Yaakov Hersh Heiman; Hotza'ah and Hachnasah: R' Shlomo Zalman Stein; Kohen: R' Yosef Aharon Rubin; Levi: the HaGaon Av Beis Din of Monsey shlit"a; Shlishi: R' Dovid Shlomo Berger (Kiryas Joel); Hagbah: the Rebbe shlit"a; Gelilah: R' Eli Powell.

The Rebbe shlit"a honored people with the zemiros at Seudah Shlishis. Odeh: R' Yudel Wertzberger; Shir HaMaalos: R' Meir Hirsch (Kiryas Joel).

At the Torah, the Rebbe shlit"a spoke on the verse 'For Hashem your G-d walks in the midst of your camp,' and explained that to truly merit that one's willful sins become merits can only be through teshuvah out of love, but in a time of the heaviness of the exile one can arrive at this even through teshuvah out of fear. He continued in a weeping voice for a longer time with beautiful allusions in honor of the Yamim Noraim that are approaching.

Yedid Nefesh: R' Menachem Gershon Lebovitch; Kel Mistater: R' Chaim Heller. The Rebbe shlit"a recited the blessing over the cup and said Sheva Berachos.

For Maariv on Motzei Shabbos the Rebbe shlit"a sent the HaGaon Av Beis Din of Williamsburg shlit"a in honor of the yahrzeit of his grandfather, HaRav HaKadosh Rabbi Yisroel Yaakov Yokel zt"l of Volove. After Havdalah everyone went over to wish a gutte voch. The davening concluded at 10:30.

Thursday, Parshas Ki Seitzei, 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

This morning, before Shacharis, the brissim took place.
For the newborn son of R' Yechezkel Shraga Stein, where the Rebbe served as sandek and mohel.
For the newborn son of R' Eli'ezer, son of R' Chaim Farkash, where the Rebbe served as sandek.

The Rebbe shlit"a davened Shacharis in Heichal HaMesivta, Beirach Moshe branch. Before davening, the Rebbe put tefillin on the following bar mitzvah bochurim:
The bochur Moshe Boruch Caleb Englander.
The bochur Mordechai Hirsch.
The bochur Alexander Gershon Weiss.
The bochur Dovid Moshe Shamuel.
During the Torah reading, the Rebbe went up for hagbah, and after davening the shofar was blown, and the Rebbe reviewed the daily Tehillim shiur, on chapter 13, verse 3.
Afterward, a lechayim was held with the bar mitzvah bochurim in the Rebbe's private room.

At around 1:45 the Rebbe shlit"a entered Heichal HaMesivta, Beirach Moshe branch, where the Rebbe delivered the second shiur on the sugya, on the topic of 'ein shaliach l'davar aveira', as well as in preparation for the Shabbos Shuvah derasha. It concluded at around 2:55.

In the afternoon hours, askanim of the Sa'ad U'Marpe organization in Eretz Yisroel entered the Rebbe's private room, the askan R' Mordechai Fried and his partners. The Rebbe shlit"a inquired about their activities and bestowed his holy blessings.

The times for entering the Rebbe's private room were from around 6:00 until 12:00 at night, at his holy home on Ohel Court.

In the evening the Rebbe shlit"a officiated at the kiddushin at the chuppah of the following mechutanim:
R' Yechezkel Berger (of Williamsburg) - HaGaon Rabbi Dovid Shlomo Eckstein shlit"a, at Kinor Dovid hall.
R' Shmuel HaKohen Schonbrun (of Williamsburg) - R' Avrohom Yehoshua Gefen, at Beis Rachel Paradise hall.

At around 8:10 the Rebbe davened Mincha, and after Mincha, at the time of Rabbeinu Tam, he recited Kiddush Levana in front of his holy home.

During the entry times, the Temesvar Rebbe shlit"a came for a visit. A pleasant conversation in Torah and Chassidus took place; the Rebbe honored him with a lechayim, bestowed his holy blessings, and escorted him out.

The Rebbe shlit"a davened Maariv at around 12:00 at his holy home.
