Wednesday, Parshas Vayeilech — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

At around 5:50 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the main beis medrash for the recital of Selichos; the baal tefillah was HaRav R' Dovid Eckstein of Eretz Yisroel. They finished at around 6:55, and the Rebbe went home.

The Rebbe shlit"a davened Shacharis in the main beis medrash. Before davening, the Rebbe put tefillin on the bar mitzvah bochur, the bochur Yitzchak Spitzer.
During the Torah reading, the Rebbe was called up for Shlishi.

After davening, the brisos took place.
The son born to R' Yaakov Mordechai Friedman, where the Rebbe was sandek and mohel.
The son born to R' Yoel Rosenberg, where the Rebbe was sandek.

In the afternoon at around 7:15 the Rebbe davened Mincha in his home. During the Torah reading, the Rebbe was called up for Shlishi, which was also Maftir. At Rabbeinu Tam time, around 8:00, he davened Maariv.

Leil Beis of Yom Tov, 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

At the time, the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash for Maariv. The baal tefillah was HaGaon R' Dovid Eckstein. After Maariv, the Rebbe shlit"a went up onto the aron kodesh and wished a good Yom Tov to the entire tzibbur in general.

At around 11:10, the Rebbe shlit"a entered the Shulchan Aruch table in the Heichal HaShulchanos, dressed in a new kaftan for the bracha of Shehechiyanu.
Lifting the cup for Kiddush: HaGaon R' Yoel Yitzchak Stern shlit"a, moreh tzedek and dayan of the Dinov beis medrash in Kiryas Joel.
The fruits had been prepared on the table. The Rebbe made a bracha on a date and tasted from the fruits, and afterwards distributed shirayim from the dates to the entire crowd.

For the zemiros, the Rebbe honored R' Yoel Yosef Teitelbaum (of Williamsburg).

The Rebbe shlit"a said a Torah thought on the verse "He shall receive a blessing from Hashem," explaining that "kol" means even a little bit, and "u'verachticha b'chol asher ta'aseh" means that even if a person makes only some effort, a great blessing will come and abundant parnassah will flow.

Birkas Hamazon: HaGaon R' Yoel Yitzchak Stern shlit"a, dayan of the Dinov beis medrash. They finished at around 12:20.

U'Nesaneh Tokef — the sanctity of the day

After Olas, the Rebbe went to the mikvah, and then returned home to his holy residence.

"As his deeds on the first, so are his deeds on the second": on the morning of the second day of Yom Tov, the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash at around 8:10.

Pesukei D'zimra: HaGaon R' Dovid Perl shlit"a. Shacharis: HaRav R' Berish Apfel. They finished at around 12:00.

After a short break, the Rebbe shlit"a entered wearing the kittel and silver kapel.
Hotzaah v'Hachnasah (taking out and returning the Torah) were given to the Rebbe's grandson, Rabbi Dovid Teitelbaum shlit"a, and HaGaon R' Dovid Dov Davidovitch shlit"a (Beit Shemesh). The verses of Shema Yisroel: HaRav HaTzaddik R' Yitzchak Tzvi Weiss shlit"a, Av Beis Din of Uhel in Boro Park.

The Rebbe shlit"a was the baal koreh, and leined with great hisorerus.

There was a pause. The Rebbe shlit"a went to the mikvah and went home to his holy residence.

At around 1:40, the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash wrapped in the tallis, kapel and kittel of the Divrei Yoel zy"a. The Rebbe went up onto the aron kodesh, said a silent tefillah, and began the drasha with the verse "Fortunate is the people who know the teruah." There is a bas kol that awakens to teshuva, but to merit hearing it one must be worthy. On this the first set of tekios is founded, and when one is properly awakened to teshuva, one can merit at the second set of tekios to hear the voice of Hashem. Rosh Hashana is an auspicious time to pray that our children and grandchildren also merit this, that "they shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your children, nor from the mouth of your children's children." He also mentioned that we arouse mercy on Rosh Hashana that the evil decrees against Jewish chinuch be nullified; Jews will do everything in this world to preserve a pure, honest chinuch. We pray, "Thwart the counsel of our enemies and turn the heart of the government toward us for good." He concluded with abundant blessings. After the drasha the Rebbe said Kaddish D'Rabbanan. They finished at around 2:00.
Afterwards the Rebbe shlit"a went up to the bimah. The sifrei Torah were held by R' Eliezer Dovid Epstein and R' Aharon Spitzer.
Before making the bracha, the Rebbe put on a new garment, a silk shawl, for Shehechiyanu as is customary. The Rebbe shlit"a made the brachos with fiery holiness and blew the tekias d'meyushav. The baal mekra was the HaGaon HaGadol, the dayan, shlit"a.

The Rebbe shlit"a approached the tefillah of Mussaf and said "Hineni He'ani Mima'as." Kaddish was at 2:35.
The tefillos were filled with a feeling of holiness, with a voice of flaming fire, which stirred the entire heichal of the beis medrash.

Pesichos at Mussaf were given to R' Avrohom Shalom Landau, R' Mordechai Landau, R' Avrohom Meir Itzkovitch, and R' Yaakov Mittelman.
R' Wolf Glick and R' Meir Perl were honored with lifting the Rebbe at Korim.

R' Yitzchak Ehrenfeld approached for Kaveh. Pesichah for Anim Zemiros: R' Aryeh Hoffman (Monsey).

Immediately after Mussaf, Mincha was davened. The one who led the davening was R' Yehoshua Mordechai Wertzberger. They finished at around 6:00.

Just before shkiah, after making Kiddush in his holy residence, the bris of the newborn son of HaGaon R' Shlomo Leib Gruber shlit"a took place, where the Rebbe was the mohel and sandek. The Rebbe invited the baal bris and his family to eat the Yom Tov seudah and seudas bris in his holy residence.

At around 7:55, the Rebbe shlit"a entered for the conclusion of the Shulchan Hatahor and Neilas HaChag in the beis medrash hagadol. They sang the niggunim of Rosh Hashana and the Yamim Noraim.
Kugel and sweet fruits were brought in, and the Rebbe wished "Lechayim."

For "Ata Niglisa," the Rebbe honored R' Shmuel Mendel Bab"d shlit"a (Boro Park), and for "Yom L'Yabasha," the father-in-law of the baal bris, R' Shlomo Katz.

The Rebbe shlit"a said a Torah thought on the verse "Blow the shofar at the new moon," that by fulfilling both sets of tekios, which are an enactment of the Sages, the counsel of the yetzer hara is entirely nullified, and Hashem treats Jewish children by the conditions of the kesubah: sustenance and healing, and redeeming the Jewish people from galus.

The Rebbe shlit"a bentched on the cup, and honored the Gaon, rav of the Beis Baruch beis medrash shlit"a, with the Harachaman. Maariv for Motzei Yom Tov: R' Shmuel Dovid Gandel.

The Rebbe shlit"a made Havdalah, and upon rising wished a good week. They finished at 9:05.

On Motzei Yom Tov, the Rebbe spent a longer time arranging all of his tzedakos for talmidei chachomim and worthy poor people, which are being sent out during the current Aseres Yemei Teshuva.

May our tefillos be accepted with mercy and favor

"Yom Teruah Yihiye Lachem" — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

After Alos, the Rebbe went to the mikvah and then returned home to his holy residence.

On the first day of Yom Tov in the morning, during the wrapping of the tallis, the tallis of the Rebbe zy"a, the Divrei Yoel, lay on the table; the Rebbe wears it during Mussaf.

At around 8:10 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash.
The Rebbe shlit"a davened his holy tefillos with awesome weeping. The sound of the Rebbe's weeping was heard throughout the beis medrash during the tefillos, especially at "Shir HaMaalos Mima'amakim" and at the piyut "Yarasi B'fatzosi." It shook the hearts of the thousands of mispallelim.

Pesukei D'zimra: HaGaon Rabbi Avrohom Shalom Friedman shlit"a, one of the heads of Mivtzar HaKollelim. Shacharis: the Gaon HaGadol, the Av Beis Din shlit"a. Shacharis ended at around 11:30.

After a short break, the Rebbe shlit"a entered wearing the kittel and silver kapel. Those honored with Hotzaah and Hachnasah were HaGaon Rabbi Naftali Brody shlit"a (Bnei Brak) and HaGaon Rabbi Yoel Meisels shlit"a, son of the Rav of Montreal shlit"a. The pesukim of Shema Yisroel: HaGaon Rabbi Yosef Hersh Sofer shlit"a, a rav in our kehilla.

The Rebbe shlit"a was the baal koreh, and read with great fervor.

At around 1:15 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash wrapped in the tallis, kapel and kittel of the Divrei Yoel zy"a, and beneath the kittel a white kaftan.
The Rebbe shlit"a went up to the Aron Kodesh, said a silent prayer, and began the festive drasha on the shofar blowing, on the verse "Yom Teruah Yihiye Lachem." A Jew can do many mitzvos and good deeds, and with one sin, chas v'shalom, the forces of evil can snatch everything away. One thing they cannot take is the learning of Torah. We ask of Hashem, who guards the Torah, that He fulfill the mitzvah of returning a lost object with regard to our lost mitzvos. Now, the opinion of the Rambam is that for an elder for whom it is not befitting his dignity, returning it is beyond the letter of the law. But if we conduct ourselves beyond the letter of the law, Hashem too will conduct Himself that way and return the lost object. And this is the tekiah while standing, which is beyond the letter of the law: if one uses the time for thoughts of teshuva, everything can be repaired. The needs of Your people Israel are many; Jews look forward to a good year; Jewish children need to be helped with salvations and cures. The coming year is auspicious for healing of body and soul. We are entering the year Tashpag, and "Tashpag" is the gematria of "V'haaleh Refuah Sheleimah." Jews need healing of the body and even more so healing of the soul. He concluded with abundant blessings. It ended at around 1:45.
After the drasha the Rebbe said Kaddish D'Rabbanan, and then the bris took place for the newborn son of R' Efraim Friedrich.

Then the Rebbe shlit"a went up to the bimah. The sifrei Torah were held by HaGaon Rabbi Shmuel Eliezer Teitelbaum shlit"a (Boro Park) and R' Aharon Spitzer.
The Rebbe shlit"a began Lamenatze'ach, then recited Min HaMeitzar, made the brachos at the Rosh Hakodesh, and blew the tekiah while sitting. The baal makreh was the Gaon HaGadol, the Av Beis Din shlit"a.

The Rebbe shlit"a approached the amud for Tefillas Mussaf and said Hineni He'ani MiMaas, and began Kaddish at around 2:25.

The Rebbe shlit"a davened from a machzor of Nusach Tefilla Yesharah. The baal tokea for the tekiah while standing was HaGaon HaTzaddik Rabbi Shlomo Zevel shlit"a, rav of Beis Medrash Beis Dov.

Approaching the Aron Kodesh with awe, with Your people surrounding them like a wall, taking part in the holy service with awe and fear, with inspiration and holy emotion during Tefillas Mussaf, and especially during the pesukim of Malchiyos and Zichronos, Your people's eyes hanging and eyes yearning for You

Those honored with the openings of the aron during Mussaf were R' Yehoshua Wertzberger, then R' Shmuel HaKohen Friedman, then R' Yehoshua Mendlowitz, R' Berel Palatchek, and R' Yitzchak Moshe Frankel.
R' Wolf Glick and R' Shalom Yitzchak Weinberger were honored with lifting the Rebbe at Korim.
R' Yitzchak Ehrenfeld approached for "Kavei," and the opening of "Ne'im Zemiros" was given to R' Mordechai Nissan Greenwald.

Immediately after Mussaf, Mincha was davened. R' Aharon Spitzer davened before the amud. It ended at around 6:00.

At the afternoon meal in his holy residence, the Rebbe honored his grandson the bochur Yoel, son of the Av Beis Din of Sighet shlit"a, to sing the zemiros.

The Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the verse "Ashrei HaAm Yodei Teruah" and explained that through the power of emunah one merits teshuva.

Birkas Hamazon was led by R' Moshe Falkowitz.

'May the year and its blessings begin'

Yom Tov Rosh Hashana 5783 in the "B'tzeil HaKodesh" of the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a among our holy kehilla in Kiryas Joel.

Sunday, Erev Yom Tov, at about 5:20 in the morning, the Rebbe shlit"a entered for the recital of Selichos, 'Zechor Bris,' in the main beis medrash.
The Rebbe shlit"a descended before the amud with great inspiration, wrapped in the tallis and wearing the kappel of the Divrei Yoel zt"l, from the collection of R' Avrohom Moshe Falkowitz.
R' Akiva Weinstock and R' Yaakov Forges were honored with the Pesichos. They finished at about 7:40, and the Rebbe went home to his holy residence.

At about 9:30 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash for Shacharis. Before davening, the Rebbe put tefillin on the following bar mitzvah bochurim:
The bochur Yisroel Zahler.
The bochur Yoel Markowitz.
The bochur Chaim Landau.
The bochur Chaim Neustadt.
After davening the Rebbe recited the fifteen chapters of Tehillim and concluded, as is customary in the month of Elul.
After removing the tefillin, the Rebbe shlit"a performed Hataras Nedarim before a minyan and recited the Mesiras Moda'ah, and afterwards recited the text of the Prozbul before the beis din.

On the night of Yom Tov, in the evening at about 7:30, the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash wrapped in his tallis and approached Mincha with great inspiration, and afterwards the piyut 'Achos Ketanah' was recited as is customary.
After Mincha the annual appeal for the 'Mivtzar HaKollelim' took place; the director of the kollelim, HaGaon Rabbi Wolf Aharon Teller shlit"a, spoke.
At about 8:15 the Rebbe shlit"a approached the amud for Maariv, and after davening recited L'Dovid Mizmor as is customary.

After davening the Rebbe shlit"a went up to the Aron Kodesh for the 'Brachos HaKodesh' and said a Torah thought on the verse 'He shall receive a blessing from Hashem.' There is a private blessing and a general blessing. Hashem can bestow, with a general blessing, upon each person whatever he personally needs, which a mortal cannot do; this flows through the Name Havaya. The Name Havaya is alluded to in the shofar, and it bestows upon each individual both a general and a private blessing. He then wished each person individually 'May you be inscribed and sealed immediately for a good life and for peace,' a good, blessed year for all Jews wherever they are, and concluded with abundant blessings. 'And all the people answered Amen,' and 'opposite them they say Baruch.' The thousands of Yidden wished the Rebbe 'Leshana tova' in return, and he too answered Amen to those who blessed him, and wished a good Yom Tov.
After descending, the Rebbe shlit"a gave an additional personal 'Leshana tova' to the Gaon HaGadol, the Dayan and Av Beis Din shlit"a, and then the Rebbe went home to his holy residence.

At about 11:30 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the Shulchan Aruch (festive meal) in the Heichal HaShulchanos. The cup for Kiddush was raised by the Rebbe's grandson Rabbi Dovid, son of the Gaon Hatzaddik, Av Beis Din of Sighet shlit"a.
After Kiddush the Rebbe shlit"a cut the challah with a new knife and dipped the Hamotzi in honey, raw honeycomb, and afterwards made the blessing Ha'etz on apples, dipped them in honey and said the Yehi Ratzon 'that a good and sweet year be renewed upon us,' and distributed shirayim from the apple to the entire assembly.
Afterwards a lamb's head was brought in; the Rebbe said the Yehi Ratzon 'that we be as the head and not the tail' and tasted it, then washed his hands and drank a lechayim. After the meat, sweet carrots were brought in.

With the zemiros and L'Dovid Mizmor, the Rebbe shlit"a honored R' Mendel, son of R' Eli Gross shlit"a (of Boro Park).

The Rebbe shlit"a said a Torah thought on the verse 'He shall receive a blessing from Hashem' and explained, in the manner of a derush, whether the word 'es' is expounded, and concluded with blessings that livelihood be bestowed upon Jewish children.

Shabbos Kodesh, Parshas Nitzavim — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a.

On Friday night at around 7:20 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash wrapped in his tallis and approached the amud for Mincha. Kabbalas Shabbos: R' Pinchas Mendlowitz.

The davening concluded at around 8:55. The crowd went over to wish a "Gut Shabbos," and the Rebbe shlit"a returned to his holy home.

At around 11:10 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the Friday night seudah in the Heichal HaShulchanos, and began, as is his holy custom, "Shalom Aleichem" with feeling and sweetness. Lifting the cup for Kiddush: the Rebbe's grandson Rabbi Yoshe Lavin shlit"a, son-in-law of HaGaon Rabbi Baruch Moshe shlit"a, the Rav of the beis medrash.

During the fish course, the distinguished bochurim from Bnei Brak who came to travel to be with the Rebbe in the holy shadow for the month of Tishrei passed by to take shirayim.

The Rebbe shlit"a honored people with the zemiros. Kol Mekadesh: HaRav R' Lipa Berkowitz shlit"a, a moreh tzedek in our kehilla; Menucha V'Simcha: the Rebbe's grandson Rabbi Yoshe Lavin shlit"a.

The Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the verse "Atem nitzavim hayom," and explained that through the mitzvah of milah, Jews become holy, and with regard to what is holy, the claim of "the words of the master and the words of the student, whose words do we heed?" does not apply, and teshuva helps.

Kah Echsof: HaRav R' Yitzchak Shalom Friedman shlit"a, a moreh tzedek in our kehilla; Birkas Hamazon: the Rebbe's grandson Rabbi Lipa Teitelbaum shlit"a, son of HaGaon Rabbi Baruch Moshe shlit"a, the Rav of the beis medrash.

Stories and accounts: this week the Rebbe shlit"a related stories about the holy Sar Shalom of Belz zy"a, whose yahrzeit was on Friday, 27 Elul. Kah Ribon Olam: HaRav R' Yosef Shmuel Berkowitz shlit"a, a moreh tzedek in our kehilla.

The new chasanim went around taking fruit, and packages were distributed in honor of the Shalom Zachor of the Rebbe's grandson HaRav R' Yoel Ashkenazi shlit"a, and joyous melodies were sung. "Az Beyom HaShevii": R' Lipa Friedman (his son-in-law). The seudah concluded at around 1:10.

On Shabbos Kodesh

On Shabbos morning the Rebbe shlit"a entered at 9:35. Pesukei D'Zimra: HaRav R' Shraga Gandel. The Rebbe shlit"a approached the amud for Shacharis, and sent HaGaon Rabbi Chaim Yosef Wertzberger shlit"a, Av Beis Din of Kiryas Joel, to lead the chazaras hashatz.

On Shabbos afternoon before Mincha, the Rebbe shlit"a came down to his holy home, where the choir sang the new melodies composed in honor of the holy days, and afterwards the Rebbe wished that it be with success and siyata d'Shmaya.
Re'ava D'Re'avin

For Mincha and Seudah Shlishis the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash at around 7:20. At the Torah, the Rebbe shlit"a spoke on the verse "Atem nitzavim hayom," and explained that through sins, destructive angels are, unfortunately, created that hinder those who wish to do teshuva; Shabbos is "shevisin shevikin," it nullifies the kelipos, and when one has thoughts of teshuva they cannot hinder him. Now, the final minutes of the last Shabbos of the year should be utilized properly, and the merit of teshuva will bring "may the year and its curses end, may the year and its blessings begin."
