Report
Wednesday, Parshas Re'eh, 26 Menachem Av, Yoma D'Hilula Kadisha, 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

Early in the morning, before davening, the Rebbe broadcast brief divrei kodesh from his private room in the yeshiva, through a live hookup, to the elevated groundbreaking ceremony for the new building of Tel Talpiyot of our holy kehilla in the holy city of Yerushalayim, may it be rebuilt. He continued with words of blessing to all the generous donors among the people who traveled to the uplifting event, and to the builders and partners in the magnificent edifice for Torah and tefillah, in the merit of the holy Rebbe, the baal hilula, zy"a, and concluded with his holy blessing to the entire assembly.

The Rebbe shlit"a davened Shacharis in the heichal of the yeshiva at the kever of the baal hilula, named after him, Yeshiva Gedolah Snif Divrei Yoel, near and in sight of the distinguished tziyun of the holy Rebbe zy"a. Hundreds of balabatim, yungerleit and fine bochurim davened together with the Rebbe, as well as many guests from all over the world.
Before davening, the Rebbe put tefillin on the bar mitzvah bochurim:
- the bochur Shlomo Hersh ben R' Shiya Scheer
- the bochur Yissachar Berish Bronner
- the bochur Leib Goldberger
Afterwards the Rebbe lit 5 candles at the amud.
He led the davening as the chazan on the yoma d'hilula with great arousal.

After davening, at around 12:15, the Rebbe shlit"a entered the lechayim gathering before going up to the tziyun. The Rebbe made a siyum on the six sedarim of Mishnah, which was learned by the talmidim of the mesivta, and said Kaddish.
Songs of arousal and deveikus were sung. The Rebbe drank lechayim and wished the bar mitzvah bochurim and the entire assembly well. Then the Rebbe shlit"a delivered divrei kodesh and quoted from the holy Kedushas Yom Tov zy"a that the kedusha of Shabbos Kodesh radiates such holiness that even the stones in the street look different. The Rebbe said that a talmid chacham is in the category of Shabbos and radiates holiness even to hardened hearts; everyone merits to receive from a tzaddik. The Rebbe continued with words of preparation for going up to the tziyun, saying that we are now going up to visit the holy tziyun, and everyone has needs for which he is going, one for this and one for that. Unfortunately there is much anguish in Jewish homes, materially and spiritually, in all matters, may Hashem protect us, and we must pray that the tefillos be accepted. May the holy Rebbe in the heavenly treasuries have us in mind and plead for us for all that is best. He also told the bochurim that one must give a pidyon to a tzaddik, and that this is what brings the receipt of good things in all matters: to walk in the path he taught us and to conduct ourselves as chassidic Jews. He concluded with his holy blessing to the entire assembly.

Immediately afterwards, at around 1:10, the Rebbe shlit"a went up to the holy tziyun together with the many talmidim of the yeshiva and anshei shlomeinu.
Upon arriving at the beis hachaim, the Rebbe recited the customary blessing.
The Rebbe entered the holy ohel and lit five candles with a ner neshama. The Rebbe said the tefillah Shalom Aleichem attributed to the Simchas Moshe zy"a with intense weeping, and continued with the chapters of Tehillim from 90 until 107, the Yehi Ratzon and Kaddish, learned Mishnayos and said Kaddish D'Rabbanan.
Afterwards the Rebbe read kvitlach for an extended time while the assembly sang songs of arousal from the beis medrash of the baal hilula zy"a. During this, a special kvitel from the donors of "Keren Kiryas Yoel" was handed to the Rebbe. The Rebbe read through all the names for an extended time and placed the kvitlach at the holy tziyun. Then the Rebbe prostrated himself on the holy tziyun for an extended time. It concluded at around 2:15.

At around 8:40 the Rebbe entered for Mincha in the main beis medrash.
The Rebbe lit the 5 candles and went to the amud in honor of the yoma d'hilula kadisha.

Immediately after Mincha, the Rebbe held a tish and the Maariv-time seudah at his holy table in honor of the hilula kadisha. Soon after washing, the Rebbe made a siyum on Shas, and the six sedarim of Mishnah were learned by the Chevra Shas of our holy kehilla, after which he said Kaddish. After the fish, the Rebbe shlit"a wished lechayim to the entire assembly, "His merit should protect us and all Israel," after which the next courses were served. Throughout the entire tish, songs of deveikus and longing from the beis medrash of the baal hilula zy"a were sung. With the Michtam L'Dovid, the Rebbe shlit"a honored HaGaon Rabbi Chaim Yosef Wertzberger shlit"a, rav of the Hunyad beis medrash.

At around 9:50 the Rebbe began divrei kodesh on the theme of the day and words of guidance on current matters.
The Rebbe based himself on the verse "See, I place before you today a blessing," and explained that through talmidei chachamim engaging in Torah and learning the sugyos of Shas, they receive the power to overturn decrees, removing them from Klal Yisroel and placing them upon the nations of the world. The holy Rebbe, the baal hilula zy"a, was unique in his generation in all three pillars of the world, and with his power of Torah he could bring about salvations for Jews and remove decrees from Jewish children. This continues to this day: now that the holy Rebbe zy"a is in the heavenly treasuries and engages in Torah in the yeshiva shel maalah, he can continue to bring salvations and cures.
The Rebbe spoke at length about the greatness and the many accomplishments of the holy Rebbe zy"a in Torah, tefillah, tzedakah and chesed, tznius, and yiras shamayim. He established a legion of the King all over the world, all declaring the glory of Heaven, raising the glory of Heaven in all places, both here and in our holy land, by establishing holy mosdos that "have not bowed to the Baal," and especially by establishing the holy institution "Keren Hatzalah" to support Torah institutions in the holy land, may it be rebuilt. On the yoma d'hilula kadisha, his talmidim who heed his teaching accept upon themselves and their descendants to walk in his ways in all respects. The holy Rebbe zy"a established the holy city, a "city and mother in Israel," Kiryas Joel, in both senses of the name, and this was his life force in the last few years of his life in this world. Thank Hashem, today, fifty years later, 9,000 families live in Kiryas Joel, may they increase! New buildings are constantly being built for the chinuch of boys and girls, and for batei medrash and yeshivos. It is certain that the holy Rebbe zy"a looks down from the upper world and has nachas from the city of Kiryas Joel.

The Rebbe continued to speak about the strong efforts to make buying and renting an apartment in Kiryas Joel easier by instituting regulations on prices so that no more than three hundred dollars per square foot should be requested, and two hundred fifty dollars per square foot in expanded Kiryas Joel. The Rebbe appealed to our members living in Brooklyn, where apartment prices are sky-high, numbers one is embarrassed to say aloud. The Rebbe asked that parents should encourage their children to move out to Kiryas Joel and have mercy on them, despite the pleasure of having the children near them, and this is aside from the spiritual problems of the city, with immodesty and so on. "I want to say: the Uncle z"l built Kiryas Joel for the city Jews!" Baruch Hashem there are enough apartments throughout Kiryas Joel, and according to calculations, over five thousand more apartments will be added in the next few years, and we will stand guard to keep prices low, b'ezras Hashem. But it must be kept before our eyes that the holy Rebbe zy"a built Kiryas Joel only for his talmidim who walk in his ways and heed what he taught them, especially in matters of hashkafa, emunah and de'os, and who have no connection to any Zionist parties. It is incomprehensible how there can be Jews who try, directly or indirectly, to help outside circles move in, openly or secretly. The holy Rebbe in the heavenly treasuries will take vengeance for this, "and beware of their embers lest you be burned." The village boundary was made only for material matters; for spiritual matters there are no boundaries, and all the neighborhoods around Kiryas Joel are part of Kiryas Joel in all respects.

Then the Rebbe spoke about the obligation of everyone to set times for Torah. There are various chaburos in our holy kehilla, Chaburas Torasecha Shaashuai, Chaburas Yesodei HaTorah and more. Baruch Hashem there has been a change for the better and most people today have a shiur in learning Torah, but this must be true of every single person without exception. Likewise regarding the war of Hashem against Amalek, the impurity of Zionism, the Rebbe related, "I heard with my own ears" that I was there when the Uncle z"l said that he feared a time would come when it would not be possible to live in Eretz Yisroel because of the decree of drafting yeshiva students. Today we already see it clearly; the decree is terrible and dreadful, and preparations are being made for a battle to annul the decree. In the meantime, we must strengthen the "Merkaz Ezra V'Yeutz," which helps everyone from all circles. More branches must be opened and it must be supported generously.

Likewise regarding tznius, we must stand guard and not relax anything, from head to toe, in all matters that the holy Rebbe zy"a demanded of us. In this context, the Rebbe shlit"a praised the regulation of Beis Rochel of our holy mosdos in Kiryas Joel, which instituted special regulations regarding clothing, and preparations are being made this year to introduce it in our holy mosdos in Williamsburg as well.
Then the Rebbe spoke in praise of the holy Mesivta with its over a thousand talmidim, may they increase, divided into six branches and distinguished in all three pillars of the world, and there is an obligation upon everyone to support it generously.
The Rebbe continued speaking about the anticipated trip to Eretz Yisroel next month, Kislev, IY"H, to strengthen our holy kehilla and its mosdos in Eretz Yisroel. The Rebbe said that only one who supports the mosdos throughout the year with a respectable contribution is part of the simcha and is invited to join.

Then the Rebbe spoke strongly regarding the kashrus of mezuzos, that everyone must make sure he has kosher mezuzos. The Rebbe showed the assembly two mezuzos that he brought with him: one was "printed" on parchment, and the other was a completely empty parchment! How do such things happen? Because a sofer becomes a merchant! When he does not have enough mezuzos, he buys from a sofer in Eretz Yisroel, and when that sofer does not have enough, he buys from another. In Eretz Yisroel there are many sofrim who are light and unreliable! The advice is to buy a mezuzah only from a sofer who wrote the mezuzah himself, and in a time of need one may buy an imported mezuzah with a hechsher approved by the Agudas HaSofrim of our holy kehilla.

The Rebbe continued speaking about the chinuch decree in New York, where the government wants to interfere in the curriculum. Thank Hashem the askanim have already made it somewhat easier, but preparations are still being made for many court cases, and we must pray for success, that "they shall not harm nor destroy," that we may continue the chinuch handed down to us from generation to generation. The Rebbe concluded with abundant blessings in the merit of the baal hilula zy"a until the coming of the Redeemer, speedily in our days.

The Rebbe finished the divrei kodesh at around 10:50, and then recited the blessing over the cup.

A few minutes later, the Rebbe entered for Maariv in the heichal of the beis medrash.
Baal tefillah: Motzei Shabbos Kodesh, HaRav R' Shlomo Zalman Stein.
