Shabbos Kodesh, Parshas Nitzavim — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

On Friday night at around 7:30, the Rebbe entered the beis medrash wrapped in his tallis and approached the amud for Mincha. Kabbalas Shabbos was led by R' Amram Acker. The davening ended at around 9:05. The congregation went over to wish a gut Shabbos, and the Rebbe went into his private room.

At around 9:35, the Rebbe entered the holy tish in the Heichal HaShulchanos together with the talmidim of Shiur Gimmel from all the branches of the yeshivos ketanos of Kiryas Joel, and began, as is his holy custom, with Shalom Aleichem, with feeling and sweetness.
- Eishes Chayil: the Rebbe's grandson, the bochur Binyamin Chaim Meisels, son of the Rebbe's son-in-law HaGaon Rabbi, Rav of Beis Medrash Yismach Moshe shlit"a.
- Hagbahas HaKos (raising of the cup) was given as an honor to Rabbi Naftali Tzvi Brody shlit"a (a bochur).

Before the fish, the Rebbe delivered words of Torah on the Midrash "Yisroel who do not eat from the produce of their fields, I will not bring about destruction," and explained that through tzedakah and chesed one is inscribed for a good new year. Since, IY"H, he will be traveling to Eretz Yisroel this coming winter, the Rebbe said he wished to ask the bochurim to use the time of bein hazmanim to go collect money for the poor of Eretz Yisroel, and in that merit they will emerge vindicated in judgment. He then continued with guidance regarding telephones among bochurim, that they should know the destruction that comes from them, for this is not the way one becomes a great bochur. He concluded with his holy blessing.

The Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the verse "Atem nitzavim hayom" and explained it in the manner of derush in two ways, in the sugya of "mitzvos lav l'ihanos nitnu."

This week the Rebbe shlit"a related stories and accounts about the holy Sar Shalom of Belz zy"a, whose yahrzeit was on Shabbos Kodesh, 27 Elul.

U'v'Yom HaShabbos

On Shabbos morning, the Rebbe entered for davening at around 9:40. Berachos and Pesukei D'Zimra: R' Asher Yaakov Eckstein. The Rebbe approached the amud for Shacharis.

- Hotza'ah and Hachnasah (taking out and returning the Torah): R' Yaakov Hersh Neustadt.
- Pesukei Shema Yisroel: Rabbi Naftali Tzvi Brody shlit"a.

Aliyos.
- Kohen: R' Yitzchak Yeshaya Katz — the Rebbe called him up in honor of the birth of his daughter, mazel tov.
- Levi: R' Berish Apfel.
- Shlishi: R' Avrohom Eli Zaldan — the Rebbe called him up in honor of the birth of his daughter, mazel tov.
- Revi'i: R' Yoel son of R' Aharon Goldberger — the Rebbe called him up in honor of the birth of his daughter, mazel tov.
- Chamishi: R' Moshe son of R' Meir Falkowitz — the Rebbe called him up in honor of the birth of his daughter, mazel tov.

In the afternoon at around 6:45, the Rebbe came down to the hall in his holy residence, where the choir sang the new nigunim that were composed for the upcoming Yamim Noraim, may they come upon us for good. The Rebbe joined along with the singers and listened to the nigunim, and then bestowed his holy blessing that they be accepted with mercy and favor.

Seudah Shlishis

The Rebbe entered for Mincha at around 7:35.

- Shlishi: Rabbi Aryeh Mordechai Rabinowitz shlit"a, son-in-law of the Spinka Beis Yitzchak Rebbe shlit"a.

At Shalosh Seudos, the Rebbe distributed honors for the zemiros:
- Odeh: HaGaon R' Mendel Gold shlit"a of Lublin.
- Shir HaMaalos: R' Moshe Goldstein.
The Rebbe shlit"a said Torah on the verse "Atem nitzavim hayom" and explained that now, before Rosh Hashana, when one is engaged in teshuva and rectifying one's deeds, one must be filled with shame and embarrassment that one is aroused to teshuva only through the fear of judgment and troubles in Jewish homes; one should have been aroused to teshuva even without them. But although even this is something only through the power of shame, "the red departs and the pale arrives," all the harsh decrees depart, and mercy and kindness flow for the new year.
