Tuesday, Parshas Shelach — 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

The Rebbe davened Shacharis in Yeshiva Gedolah, Eitz Chaim branch – the third minyan. After davening, the Rebbe learned the daily Tehillim portion, up to chapter 31, verse 6.

After Shacharis, the Rebbe went over to the home of his grandson R' Lipa Rubin shlit"a, son of the Rafshitz Rebbe shlit"a and son-in-law of HaGaon Rabbi Baruch Moshe shlit"a, rav of the beis medrash, for the chalaka of his son, the child Shmuel Shmelka, may he live. The Rebbe cut off a few hairs, put on the kappel and tzitzis, and bestowed his holy blessing.
Afterwards the Rebbe washed for pas Shacharis. Pleasant conversation ensued, with stories of tzadikim, and joyous melodies were sung. At the bentching, the Rebbe honored the Rafshitz Rebbe shlit"a.

At about 4:45 the Rebbe arrived in Monsey for the chanukas habayis of the new building of the 'Golden Taste' company, owned by the distinguished philanthropist R' Refoel Perlmutter. The Rebbe looked around at the massive production of the widely known company, and greeted his brother, HaGaon Rabbi, the rav of our kehilla in Boro Park, shlit"a, who came to the event in honor of R' Refoel, as an expression of gratitude for his many efforts and donations for the benefit of Kollel Eitz Chaim in Bnei Brak. The Rebbe affixed a mezuzah on the main entrance.
Afterwards the Rebbe entered the conference room, where a lechayim celebration was held in honor of the chanukas habayis of the building, together with a lechayim celebration for the simcha of the engagement of his son, mazel tov. At that time a signing of contracts took place, in which R' Refoel purchased the merit of the library in the new building of the Yeshiva Ketana, Kinyan Torah branch, in Monsey. A pleasant conversation ensued about the expansion of the borders of holiness of our holy kehilla, where a cornerstone is already being laid for the seventh beis medrash of our holy kehilla.
The Rebbe drank lechayim and bestowed his holy blessings. The Rebbe then signed the contracts together with the philanthropist and the yeshiva's administration, and warmly wished R' Refoel and his family well.

Afterwards the Rebbe went up to the new hall on the second floor, where the cornerstone-laying ceremony for our new beis medrash in the Ridge neighborhood of Monsey, donated by the distinguished philanthropist R' Refoel, took place. HaGaon Rabbi Yaakov Weiss shlit"a, one of the rabbonim of our kehilla in Monsey, spoke. Afterwards the writing of a Sefer Torah, donated by R' Refoel for the benefit of the new beis medrash, was begun. The Rebbe wrote the first letters and honored his brother, HaGaon Rabbi, the rav of our kehilla in Boro Park, shlit"a, and the HaGaon Av Beis Din of Monsey shlit"a, to write a letter in the Sefer Torah.
The Rebbe drank lechayim and wished the entire assembly well. The singing of inspiring melodies continued, and the Rebbe poured the cornerstone for the beis medrash, and honored his brother shlit"a, the HaGaon Av Beis Din of Monsey shlit"a, and the philanthropist and his family to pour the cornerstone.
The Rebbe delivered holy words on the verse "And it shall be, when you eat of the bread of the land, you shall set aside a portion for Hashem." He repeated from the Amrei Noam that "terumah" has the numerical value of "kol tefilla" (the voice of prayer). The Baal HaTurim likewise says that "terumah" consists of the letters of "Torah" and "mem". The simple meaning of terumah is tzedakah. He brought out the joy of a cornerstone-laying, where a beis medrash is about to be built, in which "terumah to Hashem" will be fulfilled in all its meanings: Torah, avodah and gemilus chasadim. The Rebbe went on to praise our holy kehilla and the HaGaon Av Beis Din of Monsey shlit"a, who stands at the head of the community that grows and flourishes, bli ayin hara. He named the new beis medrash 'Beis Medrash Divrei Yoel,' in honor and memory of the holy Rebbe, the Divrei Yoel zy"a, founder of the kehilla. He wished that we may soon build and inaugurate this beis medrash and conduct ourselves in accordance with the tradition handed down to us, and concluded with his holy blessing.
The singing of joyous melodies continued, and the Rebbe stood up and danced together with all the distinguished attendees, and afterwards separately with the chassan, and then in a circle with the entire family.

The event concluded at about 6:00, and the Rebbe left the event on his way back to Williamsburg for the weekly reception hours.

At about 7:45 the Rebbe davened Mincha in his holy home on Hewes St.
Afterwards there were reception hours until 10:40 at night in his holy home.

During the reception hours, R' Chaim Meir Hager shlit"a, son of the Vizhnitz Monsey Rebbe shlit"a, entered to receive the Rebbe's blessing for the simcha of the engagement of his daughter, mazel tov. A pleasant conversation ensued and the Rebbe bestowed his holy blessing upon him.

Also entering was HaGaon Rabbi Meshulam Feish Ginsburg shlit"a, the Chust Rebbe in Boro Park, together with his son HaGaon R' Elazar Yona shlit"a, rav of the Svaliava beis medrash, on the occasion of the wedding of his son/grandson. A longer, friendly conversation took place, with recollections from days of old, and the Rebbe shlit"a bestowed his holy blessing for the simcha.

After the reception hours, at about 10:45, the Rebbe arrived at the Eden Palace halls for the grand event 'Shemira L'Doros' (Guarding for the Generations), with the participation of thousands of men in Williamsburg.
The HaGaon Av Beis Din of Williamsburg shlit"a continued with his fiery address on the topic of tznius, particularly regarding the severity of a woman's hair and the problems with today's sheitels, as well as the chinuch of boys among yeshiva students and several other matters in need of correction.

At about 11:10 the Rebbe began his holy words on the verse "And it shall be, when you eat of the bread of the land, you shall set aside a portion for Hashem." "Bread" refers to a wife; "terumah," says Rashi, is an expression of separation. This comes to say that when one marries, one must make a separation, one must separate from various things. The Rebbe brought out how our holy predecessors zy"a were extremely strict about tznius and kedusha, regarded it as among the most severe matters, and spoke out about it in the holiest times. The Rebbe related what occurred with the holy Sanzer Rav zy"a, who answered a gadol b'Yisroel who asked about a matter, "where does it say so?" — "It says in me, and I am the Torah!"
"These matters are written in my uncle z"l, and he is the Torah!" And Heaven forbid to be lenient with such a question of "where does it say so?" The Rebbe expressed with pain the situation, seeing the difference in how the grandmother, the children and the grandchildren go dressed. It is terrible! A steep decline of the generations. One must be careful to conduct oneself "you shall set aside a portion for Hashem" — "terumah" from the root "hisromemus" (elevation). One must conduct oneself in an elevated manner, not let oneself be dragged along by neighbors and friends, but remain proud of our tradition. Part of the problem comes from sending bochurim to learn in foreign yeshivos, where they become acquainted with foreign outlooks and grow cold to these matters, and later it is no problem for them that their wives are lenient in these matters. The Rebbe continued, saying that his son, HaGaon the Rav shlit"a, delivered a fiery address, words that come from the heart, which b'ezras Hashem will enter the heart and the mind. He strongly reinforced his words and said to each individual that he is the one meant, and that each one privately must make sure that in his home, and among his children and grandchildren, they conduct themselves as is fitting, and make fences as much as possible. The Rebbe strongly praised the efforts in which many Bais Rochel students had their long hair cut in recent weeks, and reinforced it strongly. He concluded and wished that we should succeed in fulfilling all the takanos, and in the merit of righteous women we were redeemed, speedily in our days.

Afterwards the Rebbe davened Maariv in the hall. The baal tefilla was R' Yeshaya Yitzchak Rubin shlit"a.
At about 11:50 the Rebbe traveled home to Kiryas Joel.
