"I will thank Hashem greatly with my mouth"

Today, after davening at the daily 'Tehillim Shiur' in the Heichal of our yeshiva 'Mesivta HaKedosha', the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a expressed the feelings of his heart over the chesed of Hashem regarding what was experienced yesterday, Sunday, in Eretz Yisroel.

The Rebbe began by relating a story about his ancestor, our master and teacher, the holy HaGaon, the Yismach Moshe zy"a, who traveled to a bris in the town of 'Bergsas'. On the way home the town of 'Munkatch' invited him for a visit, but he declined. They then secretly instructed the wagon driver to take him home to Uhel by way of Munkatch. As they were turning onto the road to Munkatch, the Yismach Moshe called out to the wagon driver, "Where are you driving?" The driver admitted it, and asked, "Rebbe, you don't know any roads, how did you know?" He then told a story about the Rebbe of Lublin zy"a, who was traveling on the road when a town invited him, and after he declined, they secretly instructed the wagon driver to go through that town. As they were turning onto the road to the town, the Rebbe of Lublin called out to the wagon driver, "Where are you driving?" The driver admitted it and asked, "Rebbe, you don't know any roads, how did you know?" He answered, "When he travels, he sees the Name Havaya, and I saw that the Name Havaya did not turn." So the Yismach Moshe related.

"I am telling this story because I traveled yesterday - we did not reach this level - but I was in Eretz Yisroel yesterday morning. It was Motzei Shabbos, a melaveh malka in Teveria, which ended very late - better said, very early, it ended at dawn... It was decided to daven at Rabbi Meir Baal HaNes, and from there to the airport. After davening, on the way - I don't know any roads - a car drove ahead and we followed it. There is a main highway where one can drive, but I saw that we were driving into empty mountains, somewhere we were driving. I asked him where we were driving. I did not see the Name Havaya, but I noticed that we were not driving well. In short, they said there was heavy traffic and one needs to be there very early - one is, after all, flying abroad, so one drives from here. We drove through the Arab villages, what they call the 'territories'. I noticed how we were traveling. I want to tell you about the 'fear' I had sitting in the car. I cannot tell you; we passed through the most dangerous places, you see written on the wall 'here was murdered', etc., there so-and-so was killed, etc. We passed through all those settler towns. We traveled in awe and fear.

"I will say that today I recited Birkas HaGomel, 'Who bestows good things upon the guilty, who has bestowed every good upon us', because we flew by plane. 'The danger of traveling through those places was much greater than that of traveling by plane.' I thank Hashem greatly with my mouth, that I passed through and, Baruch Hashem, no one did anything! I do not have enough words to thank the Creator. 'I crossed the sea, but the desert and wild beasts are an even greater kindness from the Almighty.'"
