Leil Gimmel of Chanukah (the third night), 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

At the time of Rabbeinu Tam, the Rebbe shlit"a davened Maariv in his holy home. Before Maariv, the bochur Avrohom Yitzchak Schwartz, son of HaGaon R' Nosson Dov shlit"a, lit the menorah.

"These lights are holy"

At around 9:10 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the great beis medrash in Kiryas Joel for the lighting of the Chanukah lights, in the midst of a large crowd, "in the multitude of people is the glory of the King." The Rebbe shlit"a poured in the oil and recited the brachos. Afterwards the Rebbe recited the customary psalms, and stirring melodies were sung, and then the choir sang the customary piyutim.

Afterwards the Rebbe shlit"a delivered a holy address with a discourse and pilpul on the sugya in Maseches Shabbos of "kibsa zakuk lah" (once it has gone out, it still needs it), and then continued in the manner of aggadah, that the third night brings down the attribute of "chanun" (graciousness), free gifts even if one is not deserving. He spoke further that the Chanukah light on the right shows the faith that Jewish children have with mesirus nefesh even in difficult times, and the mezuzah on the left shows the Divine providence that Hashem has over Jewish children who are attached to Hashem.

The Rebbe shlit"a then continued and spoke about the mitzvah of mezuzah, first about the importance of the mitzvah and its segulos, and said that this winter, b'ezras Hashem, as many as 500 apartments will be completed, which will require as many as about 5,000 mezuzos, so there may possibly be a shortage of mezuzos, and the dealers will import from Eretz Yisroel whatever comes to hand. The Rebbe mentioned the assembly in the year 5721 held by the Rebbe zt"l, the Divrei Yoel zy"a, about the invalid tefillin and mezuzos being sold, and cried out from the depths of his pure heart: "Gentlemen, today invalid tefillin and invalid mezuzos are being sold," and urged all Jews who buy an apartment to see to it to obtain a kosher mezuzah, bought from a scribe who wrote it himself. "The wise man has his eyes in his head" — to provide oneself with mezuzos already now and not wait until the time when there won't be any. He said: "I must say that the dealers have no reliability unless there is a tremendous level of supervision. It is painful, but one must say it. I see that my uncle z"l said it, and it is valid today just as in his time."

Afterwards the Rebbe asked the scribes, saying "Kiryas Joel is a city full of wise men and scribes," that they should see to begin writing mezuzos already now, and concluded with his holy blessings that there should be an abundance of apartments and that there should be mezuzos.

After the address, melodies continued to be sung, and then the Rebbe drank a lechayim and bestowed his holy blessings. It ended at around 10:35.

Afterwards the Rebbe shlit"a went over to the Mivtzar HaKollelim building, where the annual inspiration gathering of the Leil Shishi group was taking place. Several melodies were sung, and HaGaon R' Hershel Kahn shlit"a spoke.

Afterwards the Rebbe shlit"a drank a lechayim and delivered holy words of chizuk, to strengthen oneself in fulfilling the mitzvos of Hashem with joy and fiery enthusiasm. He spoke in praise of the Leil Shishi group, saying that it is a jewel in the crown of Kiryas Joel and that more such groups should be increased, as this was the way of the Baal Shem Tov Hakadosh, and concluded with his holy blessings.

It ended at around 11:10.
