Report on the Holy Journey of the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a to Manchester, England – Part 5.

Sunday, Parshas Pekudei – 'B'tzeil HaKodesh' with the Satmar Rebbe shlit"a

At around 10:15 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the Beis Medrash HaGadol for Shacharis. Before davening, the Rebbe put tefillin on the bar mitzvah bochur, the bochur Yoel Benedikt (London). After davening, a lechayim celebration was held with the bar mitzvah bochur.

After Shacharis, at around 12:30, the Rebbe shlit"a entered the "New" Beis Medrash, in the building of our beis medrash, which was packed with hundreds of Torah learners, yeshiva students and kollel avreichim from all over the city.
First, the Rebbe shlit"a greeted this renowned place of Torah, and mentioned the rav of the beis medrash, HaGaon Rabbi Avrohom Zilberger shlit"a, who is in need of heavenly mercy, and wished that the merit of teaching Torah publicly should protect him and bring him a speedy recovery. The Rebbe then delivered a lengthy, profound shiur on the topic of chodesh (the new moon), and in various ways answered the well-known question that is cited in the name of the Rebbe, R' Yonason Eibeschutz zt"l, and he carried the entire gathering along with the fiery intensity of Torah. Afterwards, the Rebbe concluded with brief words of drush and aggadah. They finished at around 1:40, and Kaddish was recited as customary.

Afterwards, several learners approached and engaged the Rebbe shlit"a in an extended give-and-take on the topic. Then the Rebbe went back to the guest residence. Upon arriving at the residence, the Rebbe asked that the young rav of the beis medrash be called, to ask who the learners were who had discussed the topic with him after the shiur. The Rebbe had them called over and once again discussed the topic with them at length, in a pleasant and sharp manner.

In the afternoon the Rebbe shlit"a arrived for a visit at the home of HaGaon Rabbi Gavriel Knopfler shlit"a, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Shaarei Torah. A lengthy conversation ensued on the topic of matana al menas lehachzir, which is currently being learned in the local yeshiva. The rosh yeshiva honored the Rebbe with a lechayim and the Rebbe bestowed his holy blessings.

From there the Rebbe shlit"a arrived at the home of HaGaon Rabbi Chaim Meir Ernster shlit"a, Av Beis Din of Vizhnitz Manchester. A pleasant conversation ensued about stories of tzaddikim. The rav shlit"a honored the Rebbe with a lechayim and the Rebbe bestowed his holy blessings. In addition, the Rebbe extended good wishes to the kallah tichyeh, the granddaughter of the Rebbe's grandson, the chassan HaRav Asher Anshel, son of the HaGaon, rav of the Beis Medrash Avnei Tzedek shlit"a.

From there the Rebbe shlit"a went to the home of the distinguished philanthropist R' Shmuel Nosson HaKohen Kahn, where a private celebration took place and documents were signed for large sums that he gave for the benefit of the buildings of our holy institutions, for the yeshiva and for Beis Rochel, as well as for the building fund of the girls' school for girls of Eretz Yisroel in Bnei Brak. The esteemed donor said beautiful divrei Torah, and afterwards the Rebbe signed the documents together with the donor and drank a lechayim, bestowing his holy blessings on the entire family.

From there the Rebbe shlit"a went to the home of HaGaon Rabbi Pinchas Weiss shlit"a, Av Beis Din of Chernobyl and head of our kollel hall in Manchester. A pleasant conversation ensued about Torah thoughts and stories of tzaddikim. He also showed the Rebbe a historic notebook which he inherited from his grandfather, the holy Minchas Yitzchak zt"l, which he wrote right after the war regarding the permissibility of releasing agunos. The rav shlit"a honored the Rebbe with a lechayim and the Rebbe bestowed his holy blessings.

At around 5:40 the Rebbe shlit"a davened Mincha at the guest residence. Afterwards there were times of entry to the holy chamber for the European members of our community, until 1:30 at night. At around 7:30 the Rebbe davened Maariv and continued receiving the public.

During the times of entry, the following came for return visits to the Rebbe shlit"a: HaGaon Rabbi Chaim Heimlich shlit"a, head of the dayanim of the Machzikei Hadas community; the Hornosteipel Rebbe shlit"a; HaGaon Rabbi Yisroel Dov Mordechai Warfman shlit"a, rav of Beis Medrash Zichron Yechezkel and dayan of Manchester; and Rabbi Chazan shlit"a. Pleasant conversations took place about Torah thoughts and stories of tzaddikim. The Rebbe honored them with a lechayim and bestowed his holy blessings.

The mayor of the city of Manchester, who regularly assists the local Jewish community, also came for a visit, and the Rebbe shlit"a thanked him for his efforts on behalf of the city and our community.
Later in the evening, as was already widely reported, the gathering for the establishment of the Beis Horaah and the appointment of the esteemed morei tzedek to the Beis Horaah took place, under the supervision of the HaGaon, Av Beis Din of the community shlit"a. The rav shlit"a spoke with brief, eloquent words about the great necessity of the matter, and afterwards the Rebbe shlit"a delivered holy words and guidance and bestowed his holy blessings. In conclusion, he extended a blessing of mazel tov to each of the morei tzedek, especially in honor of their new appointment.
