The Rebbe recited the Leshem Yichud, made the brachos with holy fire, and read the Megillah with great inspiration. The reading began at 8:25 and finished at 9:30. After the Megillah reading, as he was leaving, the Rebbe wished everyone "a good Purim."

The Purim Rav, Rabbi Naftali Moshe Weiss shlit"a, went up on the table to say words of Purim humor. For Birchas Hamazon the Rebbe honored R' Pinchas Elimelech Weiss. It ended at 1:40.

Thursday, Purim Day

In the morning at 10:00 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the beis medrash. R' Akiva Weinstock led Shacharis.

Hotzaah and hachnasah: HaGaon R' Mendel Gold shlit"a, Av Beis Din of Lublin. Baal koreh: R' Yehoshua Mendlowitz, Kohen: R' Amram Cohen, Levi: R' Yehoshua Wertzberger, Shlishi: the Rebbe shlit"a, Hagbah: Rabbi Avrohom Dovid Wagschal shlit"a, Gelilah: Rabbi Yechiel Alter Taub shlit"a.

After Ashrei and U'va L'Tzion the Rebbe shlit"a went into his private room and put on Rabbeinu Tam tefillin. At 11:10 the Rebbe entered the beis medrash, went up to the bimah and recited the Leshem Yichud, then fulfilled the custom of Machatzis HaShekel as is customary. He then recited the Leshem Yichud and the brachos of the Megillah reading and read the Megillah with holy fire. Davening finished at 12:30.

On his way out after davening, the Rebbe shlit"a met R' Fishel Farkash, who had returned from his visit to Romania on behalf of saving Ukrainian Jewry, where he gave the Rebbe a detailed report. The Rebbe blessed him and expressed great satisfaction.

In his holy home the Rebbe shlit"a fulfilled the mitzvos of the day, mishloach manos and matanos la'evyonim, and then tasted the Purim foods "nant and kindel," and washed for the first seudah.

In the afternoon from 4:00 the Rebbe shlit"a received the public to bless and be blessed on Purim. Among others, HaGaon R' Avrohom Yaakov Yakov shlit"a came in. The Rebbe stopped for a few minutes and asked for a report on his visit in recent days in Europe on behalf of saving Ukrainian Jewry. At 6:45 Mincha was davened. The baal tefillah was R' Yoel Weinberger.
At 7:10 the Rebbe shlit"a entered the Beis Medrash HaGadol for the first Purim feast, the wine feast. Upon his entry there was singing and dancing. The Rebbe washed, and after the kezayis he said the Leshem Yichud, made a Borei Pri HaGafen and drank in honor of the day. After the fish and after the soup, the Rebbe again said a Leshem Yichud and drank another cup.

During the soup they sang "Simeni K'chotam Al Libecha." Afterwards the Rebbe signaled that it be sung again, and it was sung with intense weeping. Then they sang "Kevodo Malei Olam" and stood up to dance.

The first Torah was on the verse "V'Haman nofel al hamitah," explaining that Yaakov Avinu is the soul of all of Israel and he connects all parts of the Jewish people, and through this the enemies of Israel suffer a downfall.
The second Torah was on the verse "Doresh tov l'amo": through the Krias Shema of Mordechai HaTzaddik, he transformed "dava" (illness) into "hod" (splendor) by joining the Aluf shel Olam (Master of the World).

The Rebbe shlit"a stood up again to dance.

The third Torah was on the verse "LaYehudim hayesa ora," explaining that through tefillin and bris milah, "And you who cleave to Hashem your God," one is attached to the Creator and cannot be separated.
The fourth Torah was on the verse "V'dover shalom l'chol zaro," explaining that a person's wealth is his children; "shalom" is the initials of "mah she'elasecha v'yinasen lach," and on this day one can pray for good children, not leaving out a single one.
The fifth Torah was on the verse "U'vevo'o lifnei hamelech": when Heaven bestows a salvation, merits are still needed for it to reach the earth. The machatzis hashekel, which is a hundred kikar, the letter kuf, is below the line, so it bestows without any hindrance, and everyone will benefit.
The Rebbe stood up to dance "V'harikosi lachem bracha" with fervor, and danced for an extended time.

The sixth Torah: "Purim is a term from 'peru u'revu'"; it is a segulah for shidduchim, that there be increased joy.

The Rebbe shlit"a smoked a cigar as is customary, and said the seventh Torah, "V'chol harisha kula b'ashan kala'ashan tichleh": may all the chametz in Jewish homes go up with the smoke. He gave the cigar to R' Shlomo Moshe Klagsbrun.

The eighth Torah was on the verse "Doresh tov l'amo," explaining that through giving tzedakah on Purim, the Name Yud-Beis-Kuf is bestowed twice.

The main course was served. Then R' Shlomo Herskowitz went up on the table and recited rhymes in honor of the day, and R' Shalom Eliezer Diamond performed with words of Purim humor.
